AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 17/03/2010 18:30

Ooh, what was yours, SDTG?

...Oh, they're not actually my children, I've just been looking after them for a short period while they try and find their parents...

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 17/03/2010 19:04

Mine was Lady Eulalia Murgatroyd from Midnight is a Place by Joan Aiken, treacle.

Pogleswood · 17/03/2010 19:46

Midnight is a Place? really? Well I'm blowed, because I remember it being on the telly, and could sing you the theme tune(though I won't!) but the plot has obviously passed me by completely!(hmm - bit of a recurring theme there...)

CJ,and Treacle,I have got to chapter 6 in my Run Away Home copying - sorry it's taken me so long.I have got it saved as jpeg files and DH assures me I can compress these and email them...will this work for you? And if so do you want it in bits as I copy or would you rather wait for the whole thing? Now I've got going that shouldn't be too much longer!

SDTG I hope you are not undead or otherwise likely to be repelled by churches etc...
MCP!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 17/03/2010 21:35

Not undead, no - a small elderly gentleman.

llandb · 17/03/2010 22:39

SDTC - is it the church itself that you're scared of, or someone/thing in it?

Are you concerned that it may not be of sound construction? Or in an earthquake zone?

'Night, night, all

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 18/03/2010 17:04

Stil clueless but just marking place

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 09:46

I'm clueless too - MCP,anyone who is out there!
Still trying to imagine why a small elderly gentleman should be afraid of a church,SDTG.Have you had a bad experience there already?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 19/03/2010 10:10

Pogleswood, my father was always telling me about the wrath of God when I was growing up - he talked pitilessly of Hell and I spent my childhood cringing in fear of God, who clearly dwelt in the Cathedral on the hill.

I think things might be changing, though. My job has unexpectedly brought me into contact with the most senior member of the cathedral clergy, and his friendship is going to change my life and the lives of others in the town too.

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 10:21

Hmm,are you a craftsman,SDTG?
Need to go out now but will think about this as I go!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 19/03/2010 10:49

Yes, I am a craftsman, and I also maintain my creations (and the creations of greater crafstmen than me within my craft) around the city (should have said city not town before - apologies).

CJCregg · 19/03/2010 11:11
Biscuit
steamedtreaclesponge · 19/03/2010 11:31

MCP everyone!

...but since we were deserted on the trail, my gammy leg's started playing up - I think they could make it if I wasn't slowing them up...

CJCregg · 19/03/2010 11:39

Ooh, Pogle, I completely missed your post about Run Away Home.

Anything, anything! Whatever you can do ... I am so pathetically excited.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/03/2010 12:23

AIBU to want to get back together with my ex-DP, after everything he's done?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 19/03/2010 12:27

It depends what he's done, really...

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 13:03

So,STDG ,might you be a clockmaker? And have you recently met the Dean of the Cathedral?

CJ,the good news is that while you've not been seeing my post I've copied a bit more!
The bad news is that even zipped DH says I can prob only email one image at a time,so you can have them copied onto CD or hundreds of emails with attachments, whichever you prefer!
I think you'll need to print them to read - you can read the images if you fiddle with them but unless you are a very slow reader it doesn't really work.

Treacle,do you still want this too?
And Moomin,are you out there?!?
If y'all want to email me I am at forester1485atsky.com (this is a new address so I hope it's working ok...)

And to revisit a well worn theme,MCP Treacle - I'm sure I know who you are really!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/03/2010 13:13

Well it's nothing criminal, but he certainly has been less than supportive. Cheating on me for example, and spending the rest of his time in the shop.

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 13:16

I'd steer clear if I were you,Elephants - why do you want to get back with him?

Treacle, you're not on your way to Oregon, are you??

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/03/2010 13:25

...I know, it's probably a bad idea, I've had a really sad time recently and just need something to take my mind off things really, but he's not exactly one of the top ten boyfriends of all time.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 19/03/2010 13:53

Pogleswood, you have me. My name is Isaac Peabody, and I am a horologist in 'The Dean's Watch' by Elizabeth Goudge.

Hmm - I shall have to try harder next time...

CJCregg · 19/03/2010 13:55

Elephants, does he work in a record shop? If so, he's rather sweet really, I'd give him another go.

Pogle, how exciting! Sounds complicated but I'd do anything, as the old song goes ... I'll email you.

MCP everyone else!

I've finally given up waitressing, although I'm going out with someone from the restaurant now. My best mate is getting married - to a model. I can't believe it's really a good idea, but she's pregnant so it's inevitable.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/03/2010 14:13

OOh, do you think so CJ? But he cheated on me while i was pregnant! And he borrowed thousands of pounds off me and hasn't ever paid it back! Weeeell, maybe he's a dear after all, it's back on!

Well done, you get the top-ten MN threads of all time engraved in gold on vinyl.

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 14:41

Well,I think my recognising it was fluke,SDTG!
Is this the point when I demand all your worldly goods and your firstborn for RAH,CJ?
Who is Elephants, then?? (used to not like to ask and reveal ignorance but now have no shame!)

CJCregg · 19/03/2010 14:55

Woo hoo, I got one, I GOT ONE!

It was High Fidelity, Pogle. (I'm a bit biased, I'll forgive a man anything if he looks like John Cusack.)

Worldly goods, certainly. DS - probably not, I'll keep him. He's being rather angelic at the moment. But I'll make any other sacrifices necessary ...

Is nobody interested in my waitress? She's not even a waitress any more, she's actually having some success as a children's author. And her best mate has fallen on hard times, lost his job through drugs and booze, model wife has left him, he looks a mess ...

Pogleswood · 19/03/2010 15:01

Well done,CJ - see ,you can still do it!
I am interested in your waitress, but not having a whole lot of success identifying her - keep on with the clues please!

Oh help - must go and do school run 5 minutes ago....back later....
