AIBU Books Game Part Six

MoominMymbleandMy · 26/01/2010 19:16

Now, we're on thread number six!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to think I'm seeing a ghost?

OP posts:
llandb · 24/03/2010 11:46

Yay polly, yes, I'm Auntie Tat, so chandeliers for you (and I promise not to play the kazoo).

I think with this game it's often a matter of whether we happen to remember the same just-mentioned-in-passing details. (Actually I'm only half sure about the retired maths teacher bit). Should've strung it on for longer with the summer camp and the snakes, but I wanted to do the next one

polly, was wondering whether you're on the run from the CIA but I don't think that was a book, just film

MCP?

AIBU to hesitate over marrying him?

llandb · 24/03/2010 11:58

Treacle, skeeters would be ok with me, too. The only thing I'll not hesitate (much) to murder is mosquitoes. (But when I find a link to that folk tale about mozzies, you'll all shake your heads at my human folly )

Or do you need to kill them before they kill you? MCP!

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/03/2010 13:27

Llandb, more clues please! Is he nasty?

(I actually tried lemon lime and bitters for the first time in RL last week, jolly nice!)

...No, they're not flies, and I think they would like to kill me if they could! But I managed to kill 47 of them the other day...

pollywollydoodle · 24/03/2010 14:04

yay, treacle, you got me!

aibu to not want to tell this woman my life story?

llandb · 24/03/2010 18:01

Treacle, he's just my type. But I need to obtain permission first...

Also, Treacle - are you human?

polly, if you tell her, will she cat's-bum-mouth at you, or - worse - interfere?

llandb · 24/03/2010 18:03

(Oh, and treacle - glad you liked the llandb! I have MIL to thank for that one )

pollywollydoodle · 24/03/2010 20:40

llandb, she's genuinely interested and i don't think she would interfere but i don't think she has any idea of how serious the repercussions of my just talking to her could be...

llandb are you to young to make your own decision to marry?

treacle are they guarding someone that you are trying to free?

llandb · 24/03/2010 22:39

polly, for a minute there I suspected you of being Zaphod, Galactic Prez, being all honorable towards Trillian. But then I thought about it

Um.... have you received a truth serum, or will she be marked by baddies as your associate?

No ifs or buts, I wouldn't dream of marrying anyone without my uncle's permission. It wouldn't be right without a bit of patriarchal blessing! My beloved is a bit of a flashy type, mind - he packs a knife and a gun, and wasn't slow to put his hands on me!...

MCP - and 'night, 'night, all (hands out chamomile)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 24/03/2010 23:48

Polly, has her surname just been mentioned on this thread? If so YANBU, she will probably just write a pack of lies!

47 eh treacle? Jolly well done. Do you know why they're after you? Do you have a piece of bling they might want?

No idea of yours llandb, is your uncle likely to approve?

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/03/2010 10:14

Hmm... MCP everyone!

...I don't know why they're after me, unless it's because I'm the only one left. Fortunately they can't get in at night since I barricaded the house...

llandb · 25/03/2010 10:36

Treacle are you a disease? (Obv steamed treacle sponge is full of nice healthy sugar
and wouldn't food-poison us )

I hope so, Elephants. But I'm a bit nervous - my uncle has just come roaring home, demanding to know who's been here while he's been gone....

pollywollydoodle · 25/03/2010 10:52

llandb...who?? ...no truth serum !...i guess almost everyone in this state will attack both of us for just meeting to talk about my life...

elephants, no she is honourable and trustworthy..just naive...(and i can't see her name on the thread recently)

llandb is your beloved a highwayman who made you swoon?

treacle, (if you are not a virus!) are you one of the few remaining fertile women in the land? Or do you have magical powers? (sound of net being cast widely!)

llandb · 25/03/2010 10:57

Ooh polly, are you a time-traveller? Or under an enchantment? (If it's not the person Elephants is thinking of, and I'd like to know who that is!)

pollywollydoodle · 25/03/2010 11:06

llandb...no and no! though i think that what she wants to do is way too modern for this state...:New York, yes. Mississippi, no!...having said that, someone has to do something to drag us into the 20th century

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/03/2010 11:34

Floundering here, MCP!

...I could well be the last uninfected human - I seem to have immunity. Even the dog I found died...

llandb · 25/03/2010 12:04

(oopsie, must read thread properly and also not x-post)

Treacle, sounds a bit body-snatcher-ish but not read book (is there body-snatchin' going on, then?)

polly, not sure what yours is but does it have to do with civil rights and such?

My knife-and-gun-toting beau isn't a highwayman - it's perfectly respectable for a gentleman of his standing to ride a-courting with his weapons dangling by his side. Well, 'knife' probably isn't exactly the word for it....

Poledra · 25/03/2010 12:08

Treacle, was I am Legend a book before it was film? Coz if it was, you're Will Smith! [barking up wrong tree emoticon]

And Polly, is there a colour issue here?

Pogleswood · 25/03/2010 12:15

Typical! I was just having a quick look before getting on with my duties(especially important as DH is stuck on a broken down train and I feel guilty doing nothing while he suffers ) and the thread has lured me in...

So,Treacle,I wondered if "they" were giant man-eating plants - but that doesn't quite tie in with "uninfected",and I don't remember the dog...

polly ,what llandb said - and are you an older person?

MCP!

llandb · 25/03/2010 12:27

Hello, fellow-slattern Pogle I have the morning off make inroads into the tottering dusty piles, but this has sucked me in.

Boo, hiss to the breaking-down of trains!

I hope my uncle says yes - he can be a bit of a rat...

Seconding the MCP plea and off to disturb some dust

pollywollydoodle · 25/03/2010 12:34

yes, it's a civil rights issue...i'm a "nigra" in my 50s and she's a 23 year old white lady....she wants to talk to my friends too

llandb..does he carry a samurai sword?

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/03/2010 12:43

Llandb, is your beloved a frog?

Yes, Poledra, it was! Well done! I haven't actually seen the film but apparently the ending's totally different... it's a very bleak book.

MCP everyone else!

Poledra · 25/03/2010 13:14

I'd quite like to read it, then, Treacle - I had assumed it was a film only, and didn't realise that the Hollywood light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel ending was sanitised.

Poledra · 25/03/2010 13:15

let me clarify that -I was disappointed in the ending, as it was so Hollywood, but didn't realise they'd changed it from a book.

llandb · 25/03/2010 13:21

Well done and a serving of cake to ye, Treacle - though I shudder to think of the mouse-frog hybrid children

Still don't know what yours is, polly, but how can she be ignorant of the social convention - is she not from these parts?

llandb · 25/03/2010 14:00

Oh, she's from New York?... (off to google)
