It always has
Knives, forks, spoons..... always

AI therefore BU to be irritated beyond belief that when DH unloads the sodding dishwasher that he cannot get it right? He always puts them in random places in our cutlery tray, but never knives, forks, spoons

I suspect he does it like this so that I stop asking him to do it, but we have been together for 15 years!

Knives, forks, spoons or AIBU?!!

I'm sorry, but doesn't everyone have three cutlery drawers?

One for the eating cutlery - knives, forks, spoons etc.

One for the cooking cutlery, sharp knives which won't fit in the knife block, bone handled etc cooking knives (bone handled, non serrated are best for spreading), forks, spoons and then stirring spoons at the far right, with teaspoons at the front and then out of the tray the scissors (which don't fit in the knife block) and cooking tongs at the front.

And then finally the big drawer with the rolling pin, the big jam spoon and all the other bits which you don't use very often (like the lobster crackers and the meat lifters).

I think I do have OCD - I'll get my coat!

nickelbabe · 20/01/2010 15:35

god, i've been away too long!

Knotty: that lemon slice squeezer! i've got one of those (another charity shop thing) - i've wondered for aaaagges what it was for!!
yippee!

being left-handed i have a set of these

perfect for my favourite hobby!
also have a lemon zester.

and! the most important tool for oranges: a tupperware orange peeler.

nickelbabe · 20/01/2010 15:36

yes, pigeonpie: i have 3 drawers too. except one is a cardboard box in the cupboard (because otherwise i wouldn't have been able to have a drawer for tinfoil/ etc.)

this is in addition to my aforementioned posh shelf.

nickelbabe · 20/01/2010 15:39

and ice cream scoop with thing that flicks across to push the ice cream out.
and a sugar thermometer.

and posh forks (again with bone handles)

and a dough cutter thing.

and a rolling pizza slicer
and a cheese slicer (with a cheese poke rthing on the end)
and a thing that holds 4 potatoes for oven baking.

and lots and lots of other very useful implements.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/01/2010 16:37

Don't forget it goes knives, forks, spoons

wooden spoons etc go in a jar!

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 20/01/2010 16:42

Or an ice bucket next to the hob.

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 16:46

I have cake forks - but they are not kept with the ordinary forks, oh no, they have an itty segment of their own by the teaspoons

I was given one of these for honey but it's useless so now my dcs use it as a stick for banging things and I rather think this spoon would leave great globs of jam all over my linen tablecloths (which are kept in the drawer next to the teatowel drawer incidentally)

haggisaggis · 20/01/2010 16:54

Forks, Knives, Spoons (with dessert spoons right way up and soup spoons upside down in same compartment). Tea spoons in compartment along bottom and chopsticks at side.
Simple.

jeminthecellar · 20/01/2010 16:57

Who ever said it went knives forks spoons?

In my house it goes forks, knives, spoons too...makes more senseimo.

Anyway, the thing is, the kids dad know the lay of the cutlery drawer, to refer to OP.

becklespeckle · 20/01/2010 17:01

YANBU...

knives, forks, spoons

this is the natural order of things.

nickelbabe · 20/01/2010 17:04

display: my cake forks are not only in their own segment of the drawer, they also live in their original plastic sleeves.

still goes spoons, forks, knives.

olderandwider · 20/01/2010 17:09

Bloody hell - 24 pages of messages about how to put cutlery away - in the space of 21 minutes. Is this some kind of record? BTW YANBU

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 17:10

nickelbabe - that kind of thing I can only dream of

Bibithree · 20/01/2010 17:13

Knives, forks, spoons = how it's done in the Bibi household too.

PigeonPie · 20/01/2010 17:52

olderandwider, we did start this yesterday, so not 21 mins, but 1 day 21 mins!

Glad you concur btw

ImSoNotTelling · 20/01/2010 18:22

Just had to come and ROFL @ 21 mins.

We're all pretty bored... But not quite that bored

Rockbird · 20/01/2010 19:07

I do believe that Knotty is giving us the very first ever live MN orgasm!

But I neeeeeeeed those coloured cake forks. I'm going to have to get married again so I can have a JL wedding list.

KnottyLocks · 20/01/2010 19:26
Grin
MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 20/01/2010 19:41

But what if your cutlery lives in a canteen, which has designated slots for things?

Rockbird · 20/01/2010 20:17

Then you're waaaay too posh for this thread

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 20/01/2010 20:56

Oh, Rockbird, if only you knew!

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 21:58

I have a canteen of cutlery as well, that we use "for best" but our day-to-day stuff is in the drawer.
So Nerr

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 20/01/2010 22:05

But what order is it in the drawer, displayuntil?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/01/2010 22:19

In your canteen of posh cutlery - how is the organisation? Have they got it right and laid out as

knives
forks
spoons?

Or have they got them in the wrong order!

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/01/2010 22:22

IMO too many people have got too much fancy stuff that clutter and confuse. Ditch it all, your minds will feel tidier as well as your drawers.

Its simple

knives
forks
spoons
