RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 18:46

It always has
Knives, forks, spoons..... always

AI therefore BU to be irritated beyond belief that when DH unloads the sodding dishwasher that he cannot get it right? He always puts them in random places in our cutlery tray, but never knives, forks, spoons

I suspect he does it like this so that I stop asking him to do it, but we have been together for 15 years!

Knives, forks, spoons or AIBU?!!

TidyBush · 20/01/2010 22:30

Knives, forks, dessert spoons, tea spoons all facing north. Anything else is just plain wrong .

Other assorted implements e.g. corkscrew, potato peeler, can opener etc in the perpendicular section at the front of the drawer.

forks or spoons first???

displayuntilbestbefore · 20/01/2010 22:32

I posted my order of things earlier in the thread....you might also be at my mother's order of things....

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 21/01/2010 00:05

"a thing that holds 4 potatoes for oven baking"

This exists? And is not called "an oven tray"?

nickelbabe · 21/01/2010 11:32

no, tortoise: it's a proper thing. and it has a hook so that you can lift it in and out of the oven.
it sits on the shelf to ensure all-round crispness (it actually holds the potatoes by virtue of metal prongs that you push the potatoes onto so that the inside is also cooked)

canteen cutlery: hang onto your hats.

i once bought a drawer stand (50s style: set of three drawers on tapered legs) that inside each drawer has velvet inserts shaped exactly for all the cutlery you own.

Unfortunately, i had to leave it in my house when i rented it out (i had no room for it as i moved back in with my parents).

GrumpyWhenWoken · 21/01/2010 13:28

I have a friend who just slings everything in a big drawer - I can't look when she does it

JeanLouiseFinch · 21/01/2010 13:32

YABVU it should be forks knives spoons

ludog · 21/01/2010 13:40
  • Sighs happily

I love it here, you are all barking and I feel so at home.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/01/2010 13:40

GrumpyWhenWoken
Your slingy friend needs cutlery therapy, that is so badly wrong.

TidyBush
You should name change to TidyDrawers although some may perceive the geographic nature of your cutlery as extreme, I have nothing but respect and a little

AppleTreeWick · 21/01/2010 13:47

verylittlecarrot....omg you have just REVOLUTIONISED my thinking on efficient dishwasher process thank you thank you! You've got a big fan over here now...big fan.

Separate the cutlery in the compartments...then lift and place in the requisite partition in drawer...this ranks with the tabs on foil and clingfilm in my book. Groundbreaking.

Oh but it's Big spoons, spoons, forks, knives surely in all decent households?

DH is experimenting with upside down filing at the moment...naturally I have revoked all privildges in response

Rockbird · 21/01/2010 13:48

Having decided that spork is my favourite word of all time, I have since discovered that there are also;

Knorks, Spifes and Sporfs...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/01/2010 13:54

Rockbird Have you been on the gin?

WTF are

KnottyLocks · 21/01/2010 14:15

notagrannyyet · 21/01/2010 14:52

Are knives, forks, spoons still winning? It's definately the only correct way.

I'll be placing an order for the sporfs, the jam spoon with the hook, and the honey spoon with the twirly handle.
Chorks? I'm not sure about those I could possibly use one for planting seedlings. ButI couldn't keep it in the cutlery drawer then could I.

amethyst74 · 21/01/2010 14:58

YABU. In my experience, people who fixate on this kind of minuscule detail are trying to phase out something else - either the fact that they're deeply unhappy with some aspect of their life, or that the rest of their house is a complete mess.

That said, I do like to keep my digital photos in a fantastically complex system of folders, so what do I know?

Rockbird · 21/01/2010 15:13

Yep, my house is a complete mess, too many bloody sporfs

chandellina · 21/01/2010 15:24

coming in late but looking for advice, as this has flummoxed me. My cutlery tray has a special, longer section for knives. Fine. To the left of that are two sections for spoons or forks. What order should they be in?

Rockbird · 21/01/2010 16:04

To the left of your knives should be forks and then spoons to the left of the forks. Ignore anyone who tells you any different. Alternative arrangements are unnatural.

Spoons - Forks - Knives - Long, sharp things

C h i l d r e n ' s c u t l e r y

prettybird · 21/01/2010 16:08

it's forks knives spoons, with the spare set of cutlery (including the smaller ones that ds uses) in the long section on the left.

But confusingly, next to the "eating" cutlery tray, there is another cutlery try for the odds 'n sods stuff that are used for cooking and 8that* one goes spoons (including soup spoons), forks, knives, with the long oen on the left for the long handled teaspoons and a miscellaneous collection of plastic teaspoons (used for ds' packed lunches) and old plastic kiddies' cutlery that ds has long since grown out off (memo to self: sort them out and give them to SIL for her ds2)

And don't get me started on how to pack the dishwasher. Forks and knives have to go pointing up to in the two bits of the cutlery tray furthers in, with spoons teaspoons bowl dwon in the remain 6 sections, as they have holes that knioves and forks could slip through and so impede the diswhasher arm. But I can't tell dh this (I've tried), so I just have to remember to check and move as appropriate.

KnottyLocks · 21/01/2010 16:17

Think of the fun we could have with these

Page down to food fight!

shopalot · 21/01/2010 16:20

Forks knives spoons

then you just pick them up and put them on the table when laying up for dinner.

chandellina · 21/01/2010 16:30

yes but i am victim to my cutlery tray and its special knife section. so i will take rockbird's advice on spoon, fork, knife, though i actually switched the spoons and forks last week - it felt wrong. But then it still felt wrong.

WhoIsAsking · 21/01/2010 16:32

KNIVES
FORKS
SPOONS

I see that since I left this thread yesterday it has been overidden with disgusting FORK, SPOON, KNIFE advocates.

You sicken me.

KnottyLocks · 21/01/2010 16:37
