It always has
Knives, forks, spoons..... always

AI therefore BU to be irritated beyond belief that when DH unloads the sodding dishwasher that he cannot get it right? He always puts them in random places in our cutlery tray, but never knives, forks, spoons

I suspect he does it like this so that I stop asking him to do it, but we have been together for 15 years!

Knives, forks, spoons or AIBU?!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:22

Too many people are clouding this issue with chopsticks, whizzy things and straws IMO

OP posts:
JackBauer · 19/01/2010 19:29

What about children's cutlery? We ahve one of those slidey 'mini' drawers on top of the actual cutlery drawer, so in the slidey mini bit it goes
Adult knives, adult forks and directly underneath
Children's knives, children's forks
then you have big spoons and little spoons (children's spoons go with teaspoons.
Then sweetcorn things, random spikey things and misc.

So why does he put the kids stuff in with the adult stuff? It's half the size! ffs.

Don't get me started on teh crockery.

twolittlemonkeys · 19/01/2010 19:31

forks knives spoons here, so they're in the same order as you lay the table!

pointysaysrelax · 19/01/2010 19:34

yabu

you are disempowering him

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:35

JackBauer you make a good point - in my experience, children's cutlery gets chucked sorted into the section with teaspoons.

twolittlemonkeys sorry, but you have got your drawer organised incorrectly, it goes knives, forks, spoons, knives, forks, spoons.

OP posts:
Tamarto · 19/01/2010 19:37

Me Forks knives spoons
DP Knives froks spoons

Oh the arguements that can be had, if we were married we'd be divorced over it, many a 2 mins has been spent rearranging that drawer as the other one has changed it round, i think our kids will be chuck them in willy nilly types, can't think why.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:38

pointysaysrelax there cannot be autonomy in cutlery organisation, there must be a standard, and we all know what that should be.. it goes

knives
forks
spoons

innit

OP posts:
greensnail · 19/01/2010 19:39

knives, forks, spoons here too. We put them that way in the drainer too to save valuable seconds when putting them away.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:40

Tamarto If your DP is putting froks in your cutlery drawer, then quite frankly there is no hope.

OP posts:
RedCharityBonney · 19/01/2010 19:40

I tip my cutlery drainer straight into the cutlery drawer. It feels good.

PrettyCandles · 19/01/2010 19:41

Forks, knives, spoons - from left to right.

There is just no other logical way.

Tamarto · 19/01/2010 19:41

I didn't even notice that, to be fair that's only when he's in the BB house

MinnieMummy · 19/01/2010 19:42

Me - forks, knives, spoon (obvious - main course, then pud).

My parents - spoons, forks, knives. Why? Why? Even you mistaken knives-forks-spoons people would never do that.

LadyBiscuit · 19/01/2010 19:42

at you dishwasher nazis. Mine goes wherever is a space and in the cutlery drawer it's (from L-R) childrens (two spaces) teaspoons, spoons, forks, knives. That is clearly the best way round

diddl · 19/01/2010 19:43

L-R, knives, forks, spoons-in drawer.

hairygodmother · 19/01/2010 19:46

Actually we are (left to right) spoons, forks, knives, with children's cutlery in the bit at the end. Seem to be in a minority vis a vis order. Hmm.

Our dishwasher is a Bosch and came with a fabulously teutonic diagram showing how to load the cutlery most efficiently into the holder and where everything should go. Twas hilarious. Even I don't go that far and I am quite anal about my dishwasher ...

moshie · 19/01/2010 19:47

Spoons, forks, knives. I can't remember the reasoning behind it but I must have thought it out when we had the new kitchen put in.
Childrens' cutlery and teaspoons in the small compartments at the bottom, but DH always mixes them up, and puts the wine bottle stopper and bottle opener in with them too, which drives me nuts.

cloelia · 19/01/2010 19:47

At last I find myself to be unique (so far on this thread ...)Am so excited!
We go (l - r)
forks, spoons, big spoons, knives.
Everyone in the house obeys.
However dd (13) can frequently be found aligning all the teaspoons so they face north.
I think it's a teenage thing.

moshie · 19/01/2010 19:48

Ooh, x-post, another spoon, fork, knifer!

inchhighprivateeye · 19/01/2010 19:50

bloody hell, you lot really care about this, don't you? Ever thought of taking up a fulfilling hobby or going for a brisk walk instead?

SHOCK HORROR ANNOUNCEMENT Many people don't give a rat's ass about this and find it all a bit weirdy and overly controlling.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:56

RedCharityBonney
No, no, NO -
you will end up like otter, trying to eat steak with a spoon, unless you are a veggie, then it will be the vegetarian option with a spoon.

PrettyCandles you speak of logic, I think not.
It goes

knives
forks
spoons

OP posts:
RustyBear · 19/01/2010 19:56

Actually, you should mix up the cutlery in a dishwasher, because if you put all the spoons together, they 'nest' & don't get properly clean.
That's what the manual for my first dishwasher said, anyway.

My cutlery drawer is not very deep, so my cutlery tray goes in landscape way, not portrait; so it goes knives, forks, spoons from back to front. That's mainly because the back and front compartments are double sized & I have two kinds of knives & two kinds of spoons and only one kind of fork. Also it puts the teaspoons at the front, and they are the ones I use most often.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 19:58

cloelia

am so loving the north facing cutlery, respect to your DD

OP posts:
PigeonPie · 19/01/2010 20:00

Of course you're NUB - it's obviously knives, forks, spoons, with the little forks going the other way up in the same compartment and the soup spoons going the other way up in the spoon section. It is the ONLY way

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/01/2010 20:00

Funnily enough... I really don't worry about the dishwasher organisation
