AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 13/01/2010 00:07

No, I don't wear dungarees and I don't think there are any dogs around.

She's taking me to the zoo tomorrow. I'm less than enthusiastic, I must say.

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 09:26

Treacle - are you in love with soapgirl, or instead interested in her for some other reason? Don't suppose there is a magic element to your presents?

Totally mystified on the rest! Btw, where can i find the list of what's been done? I'm sure i saw one somewhere but can't find thread.

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/01/2010 09:28

Oh bother - was sure I had it then!

MCP in that case, CJ!

Pogle, are you a certain romantic redhead? I think you might find your current beau lacks a sense of humour...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 09:47

CJ - if you were a fleshly, rather than cuddly, companion, would you live in africa?

Pogleswood · 13/01/2010 10:22

Bingo,Treacle!

Elephants,I think there is a list at the end of each thread - AIBU Books 4 is on page 81 of AIBU(sorry, can't do links) - but I wouldn't worry about repeating, everyone has a different take and it can be fun seeing the same book from a different angle - especially if it happens at the same time on the thread - not unknown!

Poledra · 13/01/2010 10:30

ohhhh, Anne! How did I not see that? I seem to spend a lot of time saying that on this thread mind you....

Elephants, wot Pogle said - even if the book's already been done, doing from the POV of a different character can be fun. I am crap at doing them, as I can never remember enough detail

However, I will try - AIBU to sack all of my staff?

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/01/2010 10:35

Pol, that happened to an office I worked in once! The boss threw a strop one day and kicked us all out So YABU unless you have a good reason?

...Elephants, I think she's a bit young for me to fall in love with yet - although who knows, maybe in the future...

Pogleswood · 13/01/2010 10:37

So,I've been off googling and I now know who you are,Treacle!Though I still don't know if YABU or not - the whole young men giving presents to schoolgirls thing reads oddly in summary but I'm sure not in context!
I can't believe I've never read this - I've found the whole text online,so will read it now.(It will give me something to do other than housework and peacekeeping duties if we are snowbound again ,which is beginning to look like a distinct possibility!)

Poledra · 13/01/2010 10:52

So, who is she then, Pogle?? Spill!!

...of course I had good reason - someone was selling my secrets!

Pogleswood · 13/01/2010 11:01

She is(I hope, good potential for embarrassment here!) Adam Ladd, and the book is ...(ta dah!) Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't remember enough detail to do an AIBU - it's why I do so many childrens books,as I seem to be able to remember them slightly better!

Selling secrets,hmm? MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 11:03

Ha Poledra I was just going to ask that. Are you thinking of, um, downsizing?

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/01/2010 11:23

Well done Pogle! And thanks - I was definitely beginning to run out of steam with that one

More clues please, everyone else...

AIBU to run away and start a new life?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 11:38

I am rubbish at remembering detail too, unless i've read it hundreds of times. Thanks, I will not worry too much about what's been done before then.

Treacle, are you fleeing from husband trouble?

AIBU to cut off my hair? (think some hair cutters have been done before but hopefully not this one...)

Poledra · 13/01/2010 11:54

Downsizing -well yes, if you mean closing completely!! Unless I can find a workforce I trust!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 12:40

Good thinking Pol, just hope your plans are fairtrade, exploiting ethnic minorities is something I'm sure you'd be keen to avoid.

Poledra · 13/01/2010 12:53

Well, Elephants, I have rescued them from a dreadful diet and promised to pay them in chocolate (there's a few people on MN that might work for).

steamedtreaclesponge · 13/01/2010 12:54

Elephants, does your headmistress disapprove of it?

Pol, have no idea at the moment, MCP!

...No, I'm not married - bit young! I just can't cope with my family any more...

Poledra · 13/01/2010 12:55

Oh, and well done - that was quick

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/01/2010 13:31

Well, that should be alright then Pol polishes brain cell proudly

Don't have a headmistress - I have never been to school but my erstwhile nanny has talked me out of it for now. I just think it would be wonderfully practical for my new job. A job, imagine!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/01/2010 14:39

Treacle - are you running away to sea?

steamedtreaclesponge · 14/01/2010 15:31

More clues please, everyone!

...No, I'm not sure where I'm going to go yet. I just have to get away. My cousin said she'll help me - I just hope she doesn't tell anyone...

Pogleswood · 14/01/2010 15:39

Well,on Elephants, I can't do hair cutters unless it's Little Women, which it isn't,but MCP anyway...A job isn't something you'd necessarily expect to have then?

MCP Treacle, as well!

(what was Pol's last one by the way? I am obviously not overly clever!)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/01/2010 16:20

Pol's was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (i hope!) - Willy Wonka resorted to Oompa Loompas to stop his trade secrets being stolen IIRC. One of my faves when i was little.

Treacle, are you afraid for your life?

...Well I have started my new job and it's all going rather well, doing lots of polishing with the help of my 2000 page housework volume. Job is indeed a novelty, in fact I am keeping it secret from my mfaily, they think I am above such things.

Pogleswood · 14/01/2010 16:51

Aha! Elephants, might you attempt the hair cutting again? Short hair is very fashionable. Are other members of your social circle also unexpectedly on the job market?
Treacle,are you fond of nature?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 14/01/2010 17:02

I might Pogle! But do you think I'll succeed? You're right, Cousin Sergei is having a very trying time at work I hear.
