AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
Poledra · 11/01/2010 14:47

CJ you might want to be careful with that - mixed-race children could be difficult to explain to your husband....

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 14:49

Oops, too late, Pol! And twins, too ... You're too damn quick for me!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 14:50

Far from it CJ, it's very friendly round here!

Seduction-wise it depends - is he fit ? are you a married woman?

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 15:00

Sorry, Elephants - Pol got it, and extremely quickly! I was revisiting (lack of fresh brain cells) Tales of the City.

AIBU to think she just doesn't care about me any more?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 15:06

Well done Pol!

What make you think that CJ? Are you being neglected?

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/01/2010 15:36

Gosh, stumped here! MCP everyone!

...Well, she was selling the soap when I first met her, but I couldn't resist buying her things after that...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 15:44

So what's so fascinating about her friend that it's made you forget about soap-woman? Is she heart-stoppingly gorgeous?

...I'm worried that he'll never leave home to be honest, and he just wants to spend all his time eating...

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/01/2010 17:03

...No, it's still soap woman I'm interested in - or soap girl, perhaps I should say! But I have to send her friend presents too or it might look a bit odd...

MCP everyone!

Pogleswood · 11/01/2010 17:25

Ah,one of those days when you pop out for a breath of air,and the thread changes out of all recognition while you're gone...and I was going to post more but have to take DD's friend home, back later....

Pogleswood · 11/01/2010 18:58

Ok,back again.Soap girl is ringing faint bells - in fact they all are except for CJ's...

As for me,well sadly I am an orphan.I am not in love with anyone - I am very fond of him,but not in that way...

MCP! (llandb, please come back and give us more clues - I'm still brooding on yours!)

pollywollydoodle · 11/01/2010 21:11

good lord, where did that spurt of thread come from?
hello elephants, you've obviously injected us with something!

is soap woman's friend your own class. treacle?

pogle do you have funds of your own? Do you want to travel and write?

mcp

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 22:06

I definitely need more clues. Faint bells ringing (although nothing on soapgirl) but I'm not even close.

She just walked off and left me. In the park. What did I do wrong, I'd like to know?

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/01/2010 08:48

Ooh, bells ringing here too- it's like Christmas all over again!

But more clues needed, please!

...Soapgirl is my class, yes, and so is her friend, the rich blacksmith's daughter...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/01/2010 11:24

Hi Polly! stealthily conceals syringe behind back

Is he old enough to be your dad Pogle?

Cj, are you full of stuffing?

No idea on yours treacle!

...If only he wasn't such an oddball, we'll never be empty-nesters at this rate.

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/01/2010 14:43

Elephants, does your son have an inconvenient phobia?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 12/01/2010 15:03

Excellent Treacle! Just hope poor Plop will grow out of it one day.

So, is it family trouble that's standing in the way of soapy romance?

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/01/2010 16:43

Aha - actually, Elephant, it's not that impressive. I did Plop myself a couple of months ago so it was fresh in my mind!

...Polly, have just realised that you probably meant is soapgirl in my class at school - not is she in my social class! Doh. I'm much too old for school, but she and her friend are still schoolgirls...

Pogleswood · 12/01/2010 19:04

Hi again! I would like to know if you are stuffed(as in full of stuffing..) too, please, CJ. Also if your being left in the park involves a bandstand in any way...

polly,I don't have funds of my own,but my ambition has always been to become a writer.I'll have to find another job to support myself til then.Elephants,he is my age.Now I think I've lost his friendship, and everyone else seems to think I should marry him...

By the way has anyone heard from/seen Moomin?

CJCregg · 12/01/2010 19:33

Hi all!

Yes, I am stuffed, but there isn't a bandstand in this park, I don't think. We've reunited now, anyway. She wants to go shopping!

I am also thinking about Moomin. I emailed her a while ago but haven't heard anything. Hope she's ok. We miss you, Moomin ...

pollywollydoodle · 12/01/2010 21:09

treacle, is the blacksmiths daughter also dabbling in the smithy, making a special word?

pogle will have tolet yours tickle the back of my brain for a bit.....

who is plop?....is he anything to do with plopsaland in belgium?

Pogleswood · 12/01/2010 21:28

Plop is The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark,by um er um can't remember!
What on earth is plopsaland??

Yes,CJ,I hope she's ok -I would have emailed myself if I'd had her address, she isn't on the contact-a-mumsnetter thingie.Flipping internet!

If there is no bandstand in your life I am stuck again, so MCP!

pollywollydoodle · 12/01/2010 21:37

thanks pogle..plop's on the tv in belgium (i think) plopsaland is a bit like his graceland (only he's not dead!)I haven't been in but i believe they sell Plop burgers and pop the rubbish in plop bins....i myself have bought packets of plop biscuits...

CJCregg · 12/01/2010 22:04

Can you all stop plopping, please, it's making me feel rather queasy. (And I don't know what you're talking about.)

Went shopping - and she abandoned me again. On the bus! I'm heartbroken - she just doesn't feel the same way any more.

Pogleswood · 12/01/2010 22:37

Well, she is certainly being careless - whoever she is...I now have "This is the Bear " fixed in my mind,I think I need a break, hopefully my subconscious will produce something overnight!

...Well,I've met someone new (he is so romantic) - and he (old flame) seems to have moved on too - not that I care...

steamedtreaclesponge · 12/01/2010 22:57

Ah, CJ - are you wearing dungarees, by any chance? And do you have a great dislike of a certain dog? I'm sure she doesn't mean to leave you behind...

The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark is by Jill Tomlinson - I always loved her books when I was little.

I've been wondering about Moomin too - hope all is OK with her. Just sent her the next book for our book group so should hopefully get a response on the thread to say she's received it soon.

...Anyway, I'm sure soapgirl appreciates my gifts. I don't think she gets many presents, living with those two old spinster aunts of hers. Mind you, she does do some silly things at times, like putting her parasol down the well...
