AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:

I think I can guess, CJ. Do you have to clean the mud off their pickaxes too? And I bet there are loads of used hankies lying around...

...he's actually pretty scary. And I don't like the look of those purple spines at all...

Pogleswood · 10/01/2010 10:22

Finally! Treacle, you are of the rodent persuasion, and it's just as well you are clever or you'd have been dinner!

pollywollydoodle · 10/01/2010 20:55

[bemused]

Poledra · 11/01/2010 10:36

Treacle, did you see it on the TV at Christmas? 'Twas very good - and I should know, I've had to watch it at least 10 times since then, as DD2 is addicted!

Poledra · 11/01/2010 10:37

PS Polly, it's The Gruffalo. Why, didn't you know?

steamedxmaspudding · 11/01/2010 10:47

Hooray! Was wondering how much longer I could drag that one out for...

Yes Pol, I did see it on TV and thought it was really good - although I have to say that my main knowledge of it is from my godson who can recite the whole thing from memory

AIBU to forget to buy her a present?

pollywollydoodle · 11/01/2010 11:08

how did i not get that?
cold has dulled my brain (excuse)

treacle, forget accidentally or on purpose?

steamedxmaspudding · 11/01/2010 12:20

...Oh no, it was an accident - but somehow I always seem to forget about her...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 12:31

Ooh can i join in please? Enough lurking!

CJ - did you in fact give a rather large clue as to your name in your post of Mon 04-Jan-10 18:50:50 ?

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 12:58

Spot on, Elephants, and welcome to the thread! I think I was being too cryptic for my own good ...

Can't believe I missed the Gruffalo too.

MCP!

steamedxmaspudding · 11/01/2010 12:59

Welcome, Elephants! And congratulations for de-lurking

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 13:06

Treacle, I think you should change your name back. In fact, I think you should change it to CarrotSticksandLowFatHoumus because every time you post I get hungry.

Anyway - was it her birthday?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 13:23

Oh thanks Treacle and CJ!! Lovely to join in at last.

Is Treacle's the only one going at the moment?

Treacle - do you forget about her existence altogether? Is it because she's very small?

Pogleswood · 11/01/2010 13:26

Hi all! (and hi, ElephantsAndMiasmas - please do de-lurk and join in,the more the merrier!)

Treacle,is this just you forgetting,or other family members too?

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/01/2010 13:31

Thanks for the reminder, CJ - is this better?

...No, it's only me forgetting, and she's not that small! It's just that I'm more interested in her friend...

Pogleswood · 11/01/2010 13:32

See everyone has already said hello while I was sitting in a daze forgetting to hit post!

llandb has one running too, involving a ghost family and gravy- MCP llandb!

AIBU to turn him down?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 13:42

Hi Pogle! That depends really? Was he asking you for something very rude, or just for your hand in marriage?

Treacle - did you have to borrow money to buy the present, by any chance?

Pogleswood · 11/01/2010 13:54

Just for my hand in marriage - he really isn't the type to ask for something very rude...

Must go and hoover before it's school run time - see y'all later!

Poledra · 11/01/2010 13:59

Pogle, that depends - will your mother react well? Or your best friend, for that matter? (Actually, yours could be any one of a number of books - so let's go for the most obvious first ).

Hello, Elephants! Good name - am I missing a reason behind it?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 14:05

Yes Pogle - is this likely to provoke long-term silence from one of your parents?

Thanks Pol, it's from a Stevie Smith poem called 'Lady "Rogue" Singleton' which ends:

I am not a cold woman, Henry,
But I do not feel for you,
What I feel for the elephants and the miasmas
And the general view.

Rather apt for Pogle's current AIBU in fact.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 14:08

Actually Pogle, is your maiden name rather birdy?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 14:18

While I'm taking over the thread, AIBU to tell my son to talk to strangers?

steamedtreaclesponge · 11/01/2010 14:27

Ah - I love that poem, Elephant!

Afraid I've totally given up on the ghostly gravy family...

Pogle, are you in love with someone else? I really think we need MC here!

Elephant, that depends - how old is he?

...Fortunately I'm quite well-off. Mind you, soap is not really that expensive, even if you buy lots of it at once...

CJCregg · 11/01/2010 14:44

Pogle, going for a different angle (although along the same lines) - do you actually want to turn him down or are you being influenced by your overbearing family?

Treacle - I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. MCP!

Elephants - are you in a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape?

AIBU to seduce the delivery boy?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/01/2010 14:45

I love it too, so brisk - you can just imagine Henry's face.

Cor no idea of the soap-wanting woman Treacle - supposing she is human that is?

That's the thing, he's only little, but i think he needs to get out more.
