AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
pollywollydoodle · 04/01/2010 21:55

are you a student, CJ?

Pogleswood · 04/01/2010 22:32

Beginning to get that "I'm sure I know this!" feeling - which on its own doesn't mean much,sadly...
MCP,and on the below par gravy maker too!

CJCregg · 04/01/2010 23:07

No, I'm not a student, though I feel like one sometimes. One of my housemates would quite happily stay in bed all day if he didn't have to go to work. And one of them seems to be high all the time!

steamedxmaspudding · 05/01/2010 08:29

Well, I'm completely stumped! MCP!

...I've just lied to get out of an invitation - mind you, I think there was something a bit dodgy about it...

CJCregg · 06/01/2010 15:39

That's the problem with sharing with men - no one does any housework.

MCP!

steamedxmaspudding · 06/01/2010 17:24

I am totally stuck - more clues, please!

...I seem to be very popular all of a sudden, but I'd rather just get on with what I'm doing...

pollywollydoodle · 06/01/2010 20:51

Do you live with your 2 brothers Treacle?

MuLLANDBoilTheAJ · 07/01/2010 00:31

NIMCP!

Well I don't feature much more. But supposing that my gravy was better when I had guests, just because a ghostly hand took the opportunity to nip in and do a bit of stirring....

(er, this is going to get a bit cumbersome, so I'm going to cheat outrageously and jump to the other character)...

... well I just itch to stir that gravy but mustn't let her see me do it. None of the families who've lived here after us have suspected that they share a house with a family of ghosts!

steamedxmaspudding · 07/01/2010 10:15

Sorry, Llandb - even some judicious googling has failed to work out who you are!

Um... not sure who I live with actually, Polly! But I suspect it is with my family. I'm just amazed that everyone is swallowing my stories- after all, I have totally made this person up...

Poledra · 07/01/2010 10:17

Hello, hello and a Happy New year to you all! Don't have time to read and catch up but wanted to bookmark for later

Pogleswood · 07/01/2010 10:23

I've been googling too,and also with no success!(except to track down books by an author I liked when I was at school, but hadn't thought of recently - they are now just a bit too expensive to buy 2nd hand, now I'd really like to re-read them! So that was a waste of time)
So you are saying you are with this imaginary person to get out of things you don't want to do,Treacle?

MCP(please,please...!)

And AIBU to wish that winter would end?

Pogleswood · 07/01/2010 10:23

And hi,Pol! happy New year!

Poledra · 07/01/2010 10:41

Have you had any Daughters of Eve back for tea recently, Pogle?

(OK, so I haven't read and caught up, but this one jumped out at me as a possible answer!)

Pogleswood · 07/01/2010 10:44

Actually no,though it fits perfectly, doesn't it?!I am human - and real too,for what it's worth!

Poledra · 07/01/2010 10:52

We watched The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on TV over the holidays, so it's quite fresh in my mind.

I'm going to have another try - did an Indian warn you that it would be 7 months of blizzards? If so, you know you're going to have to wait it out.....

steamedxmaspudding · 07/01/2010 11:08

Ah, Poledra, just what I was wondering!

And yes, Pogle, they are proving to be a very handy excuse...

MuLLANDBoilTheAJ · 07/01/2010 16:10

I have no idea what any of you are on about, but I'm finding this snow awfully handy for defrosting the freezer IRL!

Oh, how lovely! - the latest family to move in has a little boy, just the same age as one of my ghostly DSs. He seems to like going to school and meeting his friends. Such a shame my DS1 and DS2 can't join him; they're getting a bit bored after a century of haunting this house...

Pogleswood · 07/01/2010 19:28

Yes,you're right,I'm Laura (probably mentioning winter was a bad idea!)
Glad you are appreciating the snow llandb,I love snow normally but yesterday morning I was felt pretty fed up with the whole situation...I want them back at school, dammit!
As long as we don't get 7 months of blizzards...

CJCregg · 07/01/2010 20:13

Hi all, hi Pol!

I don't think I ever got through the Long Winter - was put off by the amount of gut-wrenching sobbing that took place when I discovered that Mary was blind. (Why? How feeble was I?!)

Anyway, this house is still a terrible mess. We're all off to work now, maybe I can persuade the others do something about it later.

Pogleswood · 07/01/2010 23:00

Still no idea on any of these - MCP!
You were obviously a tenderhearted child,CJ -I can't remember being in the least bit bothered by Mary going blind(after all,she didn't die,did she -I hated books where people died!)

You are human,are you CJ??

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 08/01/2010 00:29

CJCregg, you're the tallest person in your house, right?

steamedxmaspudding · 08/01/2010 09:34

Yes, CJ, you were a wuss I don't remember being bothered by Mary going blind but then I read them in the wrong order - I remember being surprised when I read the earlier ones and she wasn't blind!

The Long Winter is worth a read, though, even now - I love their stoicism. They're basically starving to death and burning everything they can get their hands on to keep warm and don't seem to think it at all out of the ordinary. Reading her books as a child you take it all for granted, but coming back to them as an adult you realise how hard everything must have been for settlers, and how amazing they were at being able to turn their hand to absolutely anything.

...So, bit of a shocker - it turns out that my imaginary friend is real after all!

pollywollydoodle · 08/01/2010 11:57

oh no, treacle, i can't keep up with urs....i'm absolutely sure i haven't read it! others mcp

Pogleswood · 08/01/2010 15:27

hello, tortoiseonthehalfshell - hope you do know CJ's as everyone else seems seriously stuck!

Your name isn't John,is it,Treacle? Though he doesn't quite qualify as having an imaginary friend as such...

MCP especially llandb as yours is driving me mad!

CJCregg · 09/01/2010 19:45

NIMCP ...

I'm not the tallest, no. As a matter of fact, we're all of a similar height ...

(Pretty sure you've got it, but I'm dragging it out.)
