AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
treaclespongeofdeath · 08/10/2009 10:28

NIMCP!

...Still, I gave him what help I could, and lent him some men to carry his friend's stretcher. He reminded me strangely of an Englishman that once loved me...

MoominOnABroomstick · 08/10/2009 17:27

Aargh, I am feeling so dense. Name-changing hasn't done anything for my AIBU detection skills!

NIMC!

...I'm not Charlie. I'm a girl! That's another sore point because she insists on calling me by a stupid baby name instead of my proper one. Still, what do you expect of a child who wiped her hands on next-door's cat after finger-painting...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 08/10/2009 22:46

Yes, 500 hats and named Bartholemew!

Oh, and NIMCP...?

MoominOnABroomstick · 08/10/2009 23:20

Don't think I've heard of that one, Llandb. I might have to resort to a spot of cheating by Google in a minute.

Oh, and don't worry about the other thread AIBU threads, apart from this one, are not safe to venture on. Thus, while I sometimes compose them in my head, I never post any. The mere act of composition tends to suffice for letting off steam. And you are a very nice ranter

NIMC on Treacle's and CJ's so I shall plod on with my own.

...She's a Pest, that's what my little sister is...

treaclespongeofdeath · 08/10/2009 23:50

NIMCP! Llandb what was yours?

...Well, they've gone off down the mountain now, and I think the lama will recover. I wonder what they were doing up here with that fat Babu and those Germans?

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 09/10/2009 10:00

Treacle, I can't spell Bartholomew, which would have hindered any search

It's The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr Seuss.

Aw, Moomin, you're so nice. I don't know whatever possessed me; I can usually restrain from committing to print. And the worst thing is that I wasted some time of my life there instead of here or with N&D!

Still NICMP and cheating on Google isn't helping

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 09/10/2009 10:12

Ooh I remembered what my next AIBU was going to be! But I have a shameful confession - I haven't read this for years and can't find a decent online synopsis

AIBU to do a spot of athletic training?

Nincompoop....

pollywobbledoodle · 09/10/2009 10:41

llandb, in homage to your recent RL aibu :

yes if it will be round and round the garden like a teddy bear...all that effort just to tickle an armpit

no if it will lead to slow-mo running thru tape at olympics in a chariots of fire stylee

no, if it will be to improve your sex life

no if you are a rabbit and need to run , run, run before the farmer shoots you with his gun, gun, gun

(btw, am (theorotically) with your hubby but would probably be vague and let it fizzle...)

moomin, there was a book my friends kids had once about a boy who wanted to make mothers day really special but his little sister kept getting in the way ...that was somebody and the little pest, i think, do i win a prize?

MoominOnABroomstick · 09/10/2009 12:16

Is yours Kipling, Treacle? It sounds in the right vein but I can't think of anything that specifically fits it.

That was a Dr Seuss we missed, Llandb. Must do better this time around. I feel the chaos and anarchy will appeal to DS .

Are you trying to prove your love on your latest?

Polly, it sounds like something my little sister would do, but I'm a girl!

...And there was time she invited all the children in her nursery class for a party, and the first Mother and I knew about it was when their parents dropped them off...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 09/10/2009 15:46

thanks for the homage, polly! I possibly even half-recognise some of it (are we guessing it? )

... The king has promised something (I think it was half the kingdom ) to the first person who jumps as high as he can!

And nincompoop here...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 09/10/2009 18:09

... I was struggling, but my clever dog helped me...

Still NIMCP!

treaclespongeofdeath · 09/10/2009 19:15

Yes, mine is Kipling, Moomin- anyone want to guess which? I'll give you a clue... it begins with the letter 'K'!

Oh yes - and NIMCP

MoominOnABroomstick · 09/10/2009 22:51

As in Philby!

Phew!

Still so stumped on the others. NIMC!

...And when she started kindergarten it was even worse. I bet no one else has a sister who brings a doll with green hair called Chevrolet to Show and Tell...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 09/10/2009 23:11

Oh you llandb-confusers, NIMCP!

... the king can jump all the way to the top of his castle in one big jump, but everyone else has to walk up the steps to the top if they want to visit....

'Night, all!

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 10/10/2009 13:53

Oh treacle, yours is lost in one of my tottering piles. It wandered there during a rare fit of tidying. I'd only just started it and now I know not which pile it's in!

treaclespongeofdeath · 10/10/2009 14:48

Oh, llandb, you must find it! It's one of my favourites.

NIMCP!

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 10/10/2009 18:44

...So as there's a prize to the first person to do the same, I tried, one box at a time. First one box, then two. But three boxes was too much of a big jump for me!

Thanks Moomin', finally enough clues for a Google cheat I'm sure I read some of those but don't remember a thing about them other than the title No, I don't think you are BU about your birthday cake, and I'm sure she was modelled on my sister

MoominOnABroomstick · 11/10/2009 13:42

Afternoon all!

I am still stumped on Llandb's athletic king and CJ's old schoolfriend with the adventurous life. So NIMC!

But I do have a copy of The Cricket Term winging its way to me now.

And Llandb has polished off my AIBU! My deepest sympathies if your sister really was as much of a pest as Ramona.

AIBU to think I should break off my engagement?

pollywobbledoodle · 11/10/2009 14:03

cj, llandb....no idea

moomin what was your last one?

moomin, yanbu if he isn't your type...unless you need his money to survive

MoominOnABroomstick · 11/10/2009 15:00

Hi Polly, mine started as Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary, but I had to snaffle a clue from the next book in the series Ramona the Pest, as well! I think your DD would enjoy them.

...I'm beginning to fear he isn't very committed. He keeps flirting with another woman in front of me...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 11/10/2009 16:34

Arvo, all!

(Vaguely trying to remember something) - Moomin, do he and t'other woman have a Past together?

Oooh polly, I had to look up round and round the garden like a teddy bear - somehow that managed to pass me by (or I've suppressed it because of the mention of armpit-tickling!)

Mmm, I suspect mine could be obscure and out of print. But can't think how to recast that into an 'oops' acronym. Also, my investigation thus far into which clues are needed for a google search, has revealed the wonderful worlds of galactic drives and motocross.

Meanwhile, back at the castle....

...but my clever doggie showed me that I could jump all the way to the top by jumping one step at a time. And the king said 'whoever jumps to the top' - he never said it had to be all in one jump...

NIMCP?

MoominOnABroomstick · 11/10/2009 16:42

Cheating by Google has got me nowhere!

But you have to play round and round the garden with your DD, Llandb, they love it at that age.

...No, they don't have a past but I am getting tired of all the comments about what a lovely couple they make...

CJCregg · 11/10/2009 17:49

Hi all, I am completely stumped as usual, and I'm pretty much out of clues on my one, as it's ages since I've read it

I will just say that life was never the same after my friend appeared so suddenly at school, in the middle of silent reading, and if it wasn't for her I'd never have finally rebelled against my parents or fallen in love with an Italian ...

MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 11/10/2009 18:56

Bah, sorry, CJ, I'm not very good with Google.

...And we have to keep our engagement secret...

dangheckskuLLANDBone · 11/10/2009 21:43

Ooh, tantalising but NIMCP!

Everyone stood and laughed when I tried. But luckily the king decided fair was fair and brain was as good as brawn! It's nice to find a Good King who appreciates that there is more than one way to perform a Big Jump....

'Night, all!
