AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/12/2009 14:47

Hi polly! no,not from Brave New World (amazed that my AIBU fits it! Though I've read it it was so long ago that I remember zilch about the plot)

...we are from very different backgrounds, but we've been through a lot together - some quite stormy times - and we both have power(or possibly powers..)

steamedxmaspudding · 11/12/2009 17:30

Hmm...

More clues please everyone! Am failing miserably here.

...she's not very clean and tidy, and she doesn't even like school stories...

Pogleswood · 11/12/2009 18:37

is your cousin an obsessive horsy type,Treacle?

...we already have a daughter.Though since she died we don't get to see her regularly...

pollywobblebauble · 11/12/2009 21:05

pogle, it's entirely pssible that it didn't fit...it certainly doesn't now!

really ni with these

Pogleswood · 11/12/2009 21:30

...he has been married before - but of course he has been alive for a very long time,in and out of the bottle...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 13/12/2009 22:18

Anyone out there? I have no ideas whatsoever! Can we move on from fantasy now?

I'm SO going to prove them wrong. I'm going to the highest authority in the land. I'll just sneak through these trees ...

steamedxmaspudding · 14/12/2009 09:37

Yes, very horsey indeed, Pogle! I don't understand why she wastes all her time with those horses when she can do such lovely Fair Isle knitting.

And another non-fantasy seasonal AIBU, just for you, CJ:

...AIBU to not particularly want to have a Christmas party?

Pogleswood · 14/12/2009 09:53

well, there are more important things in life than knitting (there are more important thing in life than food..hmm,that sounds wrong somehow..)

I am ashamed to admit I've dried up with regard to clues for mine ,so am abandoning it

MCP as no ideas on either of yours...

Pogleswood · 15/12/2009 07:13

Just popping in for a look round.. We're all a bit stuck here, aren't we!

And if you are getting any chance to look in,Moomin - hope you are all starting to recover from your lurgy,(also to anyone else suffering out there in RL)

steamedxmaspudding · 15/12/2009 10:09

Where is everybody? Come back! Moomin, hope you're not still stuck in the house of plague.

What was yours, Pogle?

...it just seems like a lot of work. But the children are keen...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 15/12/2009 11:10

I'm here! But running out of thoughts, need more clues.

I'm back, and I've got my proof. Apparently there was a bit of a hue and cry after I'd gone - honestly, what a fuss! But that'll teach them to criticise my hygiene standards ...

Pogleswood · 15/12/2009 21:50

I'm here too,but in dire need of inspiration! And just as I was going to moan about yours CJ,and the bizarre mix of high authorities and hygiene all has suddenly become clear (I hope!)
"sillies,I've been to see the Queen, and she says my hands are perfectly clean!"

MCP,Treacle - but whoever you are,"it just seems like a lot of work. But the children are keen" is just how I feel at the moment...

pollywobblebauble · 15/12/2009 22:00

am here but no ideas really, even about the one that you appear to have just got!

AIBU to think it is a bit too quiet...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 15/12/2009 22:09

Well done, Pogle! It couldn't be further from trashy fantasy, could it? I've always loved the sound of 'Emmeline, slipped between the two tall trees at the end of the green'.

No idea on anyone else's though, soz. Maybe as we're all exhausted in the pre-Christmas build-up, we could do some slightly more obvious traditional ones to cheer ourselves up!

AIBU to wish they'd leave me alone to get some sleep?

Pogleswood · 15/12/2009 22:18

Good idea!

CJ,you are me...

(Oh,Treacle - my one I gave up on was Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series - sorry I couldn't do better clues as I love the books!)

steamedxmaspudding · 16/12/2009 10:37

CJ are you a bear? Or an elephant? Perhaps you should swap places with Polly, sounds nice and peaceful where she is...

...now it looks like we're going to have to put on some sort of production for all our guests. And I don't know where we're going to find enough food from...

Pogleswood · 16/12/2009 12:03

hmm - will adults acting and children playing the parts of small furry animals feature in your production at all,Treacle?

NIMCP otherwise...

steamedxmaspudding · 16/12/2009 12:10

They will indeed feature, Pogle!

Trying to think of more festive-themed AIBUs but it's surprisingly hard...

AIBU to wonder where all the other children are?

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 16/12/2009 12:48

Afternoon, all! Sorry for extended absence which was due to lurgy followed by the unpleasant and unnecessarily melodramatic intrusion of real life - yuck.

But I will never desert AIBU Books!

I need to do some serious catching-up because a quick glance tells me you've been doing some pretty impossible stuff, but in the meantime:

AIBU to think a partridge in a pear tree would be a good present?

Pogleswood · 16/12/2009 14:09

Welcome back ,Moomin! Is RL better now? I hope so. Are you intending to follow up your partridge with the whole works? The recipient may be less than grateful!(don't know who you are though...)

Treacle,I was thinking you might be Nadine Eliot - but I don't remember food anxiety featuring! Were you,or am I getting credit undeservedly here??

MCP!

steamedxmaspudding · 16/12/2009 14:15

Pogle, I was George, so you were close! And I think they were a little concerned about food because of the rationing; of course, Auntie Rose's nephew the grocer manages to see them right...

Welcome back Moomin! Sorry to hear about the RL intrusion, am trying to avoid it as much as possible myself at the moment. Are you the unfortunate lady in the book illustrated by Quentin Blake? Can't remember who wrote it.

...I know they must be here somewhere but I haven't seen them yet...

Pogleswood · 16/12/2009 14:25

Oh heavens,Treacle -are you planning on working through all my Christmas favorite reads? And in this case TV adaptation too?!
I think they are shy - be patient! In the meantime perhaps you should go and look at the garden and the topiary animals.

pollywobblebauble · 16/12/2009 14:57

welcome back moomin, blah blah to real life...

....is that a scratching sound i can hear?

nimcp

steamedxmaspudding · 16/12/2009 15:45

Ooh, yours sounds creepy, Polly! Although is it possible you're waiting for a certain visitor to arrive?

Well done again Pogle! You're too fast at these, I will be running out of books to do long before Christmas.

...AIBU to worry about this old man?

pollywobblebauble · 16/12/2009 20:59

treacle, i believe you are right.....it's 24th december and I was wrong, I couldn't even hear any scratching...
