AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
pollywobblebauble · 05/12/2009 22:52

ps sending a tub of cooling soothing ben n jerry's rocky road and warming hot choc with marshmallows over t'internet...your choice moomin family....get better soon

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 06/12/2009 18:30

Like the name change, Polly, and yum!

...I am back on the planet of my birth but I'm called Jeff, not Kyra!

NIMCP everyone. I'm a bit rubbish at fantasy.

Pogleswood · 06/12/2009 21:26

Actually I've wandered away from fantasy and back towards Sweden, but I think I'm nearly stuck clue wise!

...I've plaited all of Lars' hair and I've tied the plaits with my best silver and gold ribbon,he looks lovely!...

As on many previous occasions I'm sure I must know yours Moomin, and yours,Treacle!

MCP!

pollywobblebauble · 06/12/2009 21:34

evening, i really am all blank about these...even tried a bit of a google...nah!

nimcp

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 07/12/2009 00:48

Umm, Bullerby, Pogle?

Still NIMCP on Treacle's.

...Well, I know I was born here and I remember being brought up in the Spaceman's Orphanage. But now they're claiming they've got no record of me...

steamedxmaspudding · 07/12/2009 10:54

Morning, all!

NIMCP

...Well, it turns out the High Lord was practising black magic for a good reason - and now he has to teach me before the neighbouring kingdom invades us totally...

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 07/12/2009 17:05

Ahh, I'd concentrate hard on your lessons, Treacle because the High Lord might not be around to teach you for much longer - amazing how Google can come to the rescue sometimes!

...I can't remember anything of life before the orphanage. I suppose my mother must have given me the blue stone hanging round my neck. They tried to take it away but I fought so hard they gave up...

pollywobblebauble · 07/12/2009 21:19

poor stevie-rae!
(moomin, altho that might sound like i know the character, it is in fact pure google!...is it worth a read?)

Pogleswood · 08/12/2009 09:00

Gah! Can't even do fantasy! So yours is Darkover, is it, Moomin? And I've googled yours ,Treacle, are they good? I've never quite got round to reading them.

my mad plaiter isn't in Bullerby, but is the littlest one in a family of 7,where all the girls are named after shakespearean heroines, becase their mother was an actress. Her youngest brother is a bit of an urchin...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 08/12/2009 09:04
Pogleswood · 08/12/2009 09:19

There,there - have a nice cup of tea(coffee? wine?),It'll be ok!

steamedxmaspudding · 08/12/2009 09:37

Aha - well googled, Moomin!

Pogle, no, they aren't great. Good for a light read if your brain is feeling mushy but I thought them unoriginal and predictable. And her second series of books have basically the same plot, which is rather dull. Actually, I had to do some googling myself as I found I'd completely forgotten what happens in the plot, despite only reading them a couple of months ago...

No idea on anyone else's!

AIBU to defend my boss?

Poledra · 08/12/2009 09:41

Ooh, Treacle, I've read those too - they are the literary equivalent of a Chinese, aren't they? Haven't bothered with the second series.

Pogle, I'm sure I know yours, but can't dig it out of the recesses of my memory.

Best go watch DD2 in her Christmas concert (tissues at hte ready!).

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 08/12/2009 09:48

Thanks, Pogle!

Trying to get back on track - AIBU to prove them all wrong?

Pogleswood · 08/12/2009 21:19

Shan't bother reading them then,Treacle!

Well, you both sound quite reasonable at first glance - MCP!

...My brothers and sisters are Dessi,Mirre,Rosalind,Lars, Knut and Patrick(he doesn't get called Patrick though)..

While that one dies a death,AIBU to marry my boyfriend?

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 09/12/2009 00:55

Greetings, all!

Sorry for the absence of clues - real life has been very intrusive.

And yes, indeed, Polly, Pol, it is Darkover -The Bloody Sun, more specifically. They're great fun and very imaginative, although the later books do suffer from sequelitis a bit.

NIMCP on everyone's, even your one is proving untameable by Googling, Pogle.

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 09/12/2009 09:16

Pogle, shameless googling tells me that your father is somewhat eccentric and unusually interested in saucepans?

I'll just nip down to the end of the garden while no one's looking ...

steamedxmaspudding · 09/12/2009 09:31

Are you looking for fairies, CJ?

I'll have to look out for Darkover, Moomin, haven't heard of those ones before.

Have decided my scientific knowledge is totally lacking so am currently reading A Brief History of Time, The Selfish Gene and Bad Science - v interesting but not v helpful for AIBUs!

...My wife thinks he doesn't pay me enough but I'm just grateful to have a job at all...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 09/12/2009 09:37

Treacle, are you worried about your sick little boy as well?

No, I'm not looking for fairies. But I am determined to prove them all wrong, so I'm just sneaking out while no one's looking, to get some proof.

Poledra · 09/12/2009 09:48

Treacle/Xmas, are you Bob Cratchit?

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 09/12/2009 09:51

(sick little boy = Tiny Tim!)

steamedxmaspudding · 09/12/2009 10:13

CJ and Pol, take a bow! That was quick.

AIBU to think my cousin is mad?

Poledra · 09/12/2009 10:26

Ooops, sorry, CJ, didn't read your post properly so didn't realise you'd already rumbled Treacle!

Pogleswood · 09/12/2009 11:52

Yes,CJ - I tried to google mine and didn't find anything helpful,so well done, and I obviously need to stop thinking that my "childhood" books must've been read widely!

...I love him,but some of my people aren't at all happy with the idea - and some of his people seem to think it could end civilisation as we know it...

MCP!

pollywobblebauble · 11/12/2009 11:16
