AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 01/12/2009 09:32

That was quick! Yes, I am related to her - they're a bit of a strange lot, my family

Polly, are you a Victorian lady?

Moomin, are you something by Anne McCaffrey?

Poledra · 01/12/2009 09:38

CJ, have you dropped all the mail in the stream now, and have the labels fallen off? Get thee to thy granny's, she'll help!

And can I just say, No, my daughter was not being unreasonable - she was protecting the boy for his own good (though she may have gone a little too far).

pollywobblebauble · 01/12/2009 10:29

treacle, i am a victorian lady and have been somewhat fragile mentally up to now...the prisoner loves me too, i'm sure of it...

as dd puts it i am having a "mummy of little brain day"..am getting more confused the more clues are revealed on other peoples!

pollywobblebauble · 01/12/2009 10:42

moomin are you torn between 2 dragon knights?

steamedxmaspudding · 01/12/2009 13:53

Ah, Polly, do you have something of an affinity with her?

AIBU not to trust my teacher?

MCP Pol! (Or should I say grandmother? )

CJCregg · 01/12/2009 16:26

Yes, Pol, isn't it lucky there was a red label on one of them!

Completely stumped on everyone's, and worrying about trashy fantasy ignorance ...

pollywobblebauble · 01/12/2009 17:33

i do indeed my (e)steamed thread cohabiter!
have a twirl in your thermals!

Pogleswood · 01/12/2009 19:12

So does this make you Katie Morag,CJ? Gosh,it's a long time since I read those.

What's your teacher doing then,Treacle?

...everyone seems obsessed by my wedding ring...

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/12/2009 19:36

Evening, all! Head full of cold here so the AIBUs are even trickier than usual.

And yes indeed, Pogle and Treacle, a woman's lot on Pern could be much worse so I'll just put up with whatever man with a silly apostrophe in his name the lizard chooses.

It wasn't quick, Treacle. It's just a previous AIBU about Polgara helped to give aunties their unfortunate reputation on these threads. It took so long to identify her that I'm not likely to forget her now!

So, I've worked out what CJ and Polly's must have been, so that leaves Pogle and the stalwart Poledra's, plus Treacle's new one. To which all I can say is NIMCP!

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 01/12/2009 19:41

Nope, I am being extra-dopey because Poledra was just being in character and defending Polgara.

AIBU to wonder why people in this backwater keep staring at me?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 01/12/2009 21:54

I was indeed Katie Morag. We've just discovered her, and both DCs love it, especially putting on cod Scottish accents. I've ordered the next set for DD for Christmas.

I'm utterly baffled by the weird Polgara stuff, I feel like a child with my nose pressed up against the window, watching the grown ups having a party. Must have been asleep when this one last came up!

More clues pleeeeeeease ...

Pogleswood · 01/12/2009 23:51

Do you not read fantasy at all ,CJ?
(or is it just trashy fantasy you avoid - just idle curiosity, not criticism!)

I miss Katie Morag. And Mog.Ah well

CJCregg · 02/12/2009 09:47

Not really, Pogle. I don't know why, it just never really appealed, and now somehow it's become something I'm slightly nervous of diving into!

Katie Morag is fab. I love the fact that her parents get cross with her but they're all part of a big loving family. And the pictures are wonderful. They ask for it night after night - bit worried about the influence of the big boy cousins, though!

steamedxmaspudding · 02/12/2009 10:13

I only got into adult fantasy (that sounds a bit oo-er, doesn't it?) fairly recently - I kept taking out worthy books from the library and then utterly failing to read them. So one day I just thought sod it, I want something with dragons

Moomin, are you something of a dandy?

MCP everyone!

...I saw him doing something bad - at the time I didn't understand it, but now I realise he must be evil...

Pogleswood · 02/12/2009 11:34

"sod it, I want something with dragons"

Love this as a quote,Treacle - it says it all really! Are you at Hogwarts?

...so,it's white gold - but it is just my wedding ring.I don't know why I still wear it - my wife left me,with my son, because of the illness...

Poledra · 02/12/2009 13:48

Ah, Pogle, I know who you are, but I cannot think of a clever way to say it! Perhaps if I ask if you are looking out from Kevin's Watch?

Pogleswood · 02/12/2009 14:21

Well done,Pol!I was planning on dropping Kevin's Watch into the next clue.
(only too glad that you've got it - clever comments entirely unnecessary...)
Don't think I'm very good at the clues bit!

So,while I'm here AIBU to learn to plait?

steamedxmaspudding · 02/12/2009 16:06

Ooh, who were you, Pogle?

...Not at Hogwarts, but I am learning magic! I don't think the other students like me very much either...

CJsWhiteHouseXmasParty · 02/12/2009 18:21

Hi all,

Absolutely NIMCP - just wanted to try out my Christmas name ...

Pogleswood · 02/12/2009 19:10

I was Thomas Covenant (the Unbeliever)from Stephen Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant(8 books, first one Lord Foul's Bane)
Recommended if you've not read them!

Like the name,CJ,and yours too Treacle - I suppose we need to call you Xmas rather than Treacle now...?(by the way I haven't ever name changed - is it easy to change back again?)

...Mummy has taught me to plait with silk thread but now I need to practise - I'm going to try on my sister...

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 03/12/2009 16:41

Greetings, all! We are lurgy-ridden which accounts for the absence of clues from me.

You do remember Polgara, CJ - she was the original aunt who wasn't Augusta!

Pogle, it's very easy to name change and back again. Click on MyMumsnet at the top, log in and click on registration details and then you can tinker to your heart's content.

You don't have a pet otak, do you, Treacle?

MCP!

...Haven't they seen red hair before?...

steamedxmaspudding · 03/12/2009 16:50

Love the namechanges, everyone!

NIMCP

...No pet otak, I'm afraid. I now have to move in with my teacher - I'm scared of him but fortunately I don't see him much. And now everyone's talking about the hostile neighbouring country, I hope we don't end up at war...

Pogleswood · 05/12/2009 10:23

Anyone out there??

Sorry you are lurgy ridden,Moomin - hope it doesn't go on too long - keep on taking the calpol...

...I've plaited my sisters' hair, and Mummy won't let me do hers - perhaps my brother will let me do his,if I beg...

MCP?

MoominsSleepAllXmas · 05/12/2009 19:51

Evening, all! Sorry for the absence of clues - we're still plague ridden.

NIMCP on all of them, I'm afraid.

...And why are the natives treating me like a cross between royalty and an unexploded bomb...

pollywobblebauble · 05/12/2009 22:50

are you called kyra and travelling back to the place of your birth?

others nimcp
