AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/11/2009 21:17

I was originally thinking of one of Anne of Green Gables' friends! God knows where that came from ...

Don't know if AOD is right yet, Polly. Or UOD? - we haven't had many uncles, have we?

Awaiting confirmation, Moomin.

Some people thought my employer was a bit grand, and big for his boots, and it's true he did have a huge ego, but such wisdom too ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/11/2009 00:25

Another cheery read, Polly!

And yes, well done, CJ, the little dog disappeared with her. But it was an irritating, yappy thing so I don't miss it. Oh well, better get on with life on the Kansas prairie. Pesky tornado!

MCP for the acronyms as well as the books!

AIBU to wish I didn't have to look out for my brother all the time?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 23/11/2009 09:21

(chandeliers hardly appropriate)

AOD = Aunt of Dorothy, as opposed to Friend of Dorothy = gay! Which leads me to think that UOD would definitely be more appropriate.

Is there something wrong with your brother, Moomin, or is it just that your mother isn't around?

steamedtreaclesponge · 23/11/2009 10:25

Are there goblins around, Moomin?

AIBU to worry about my husband?

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/11/2009 15:18

Afternoon, all!

I am obviously leading a very sheltered life these days because I've never come across FOD.

Has your boss gone for a holiday, CJ?

MCP everyone!

...He's my twin brother. Our mother died from Spanish flu' when we were children...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 23/11/2009 15:44

NIMCP!

...he insists on working all hours, and his job's not exactly a safe one...

pollywobbledoodle · 24/11/2009 09:30

morning!
treacle, is he a bomb disposal expert/member of the SAS/in training for the guinness book of records most burgers eaten in an hour?

moomin, are the twins off to fight in the the second world war?

am off to find the perkiest book on my shelves so that i can aibu it...

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/11/2009 10:15

Hmm... MCP everyone!

...No, he's not in the forces, although it's something similar. There always seem to be people trying to kill him - I just wish they didn't come to the house so often...

pollywobbledoodle · 24/11/2009 11:11

ok, private investigator/policeman/nazi hunter? (warmer, colder?)

pollywobbledoodle · 24/11/2009 11:12

spy?

CJCregg · 24/11/2009 11:23

Morning, all!

I'm also thinking spy ...

My employer (ex-employer, now) hasn't gone on holiday, unless York counts. It's so unfair - they've stripped him of all his privileges, he's hardly got anyone with him now. He's even had to hand over his new house ...

It's my birthday today . Am trying to think of birthday-related AIBUs. Back later.

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/11/2009 11:38

Ooh happy birthday CJ! It was mine last Tuesday, wish I'd thought of something birthday-themed

Definitely warmer, Polly!

...He's often out all night, but I suppose I have the staff to keep me company. At least he makes the effort to see our son every day...

pollywobbledoodle · 24/11/2009 14:02

oh treacle, you tease! which one is warmest?

Pogleswood · 24/11/2009 19:11

Hi all,and Happy Birthday,CJ!(and Treacle,for last week!)
Is your DH always home in time to read the bedtime story,Treacle?

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/11/2009 20:28

Many Happy Returns, CJ, for today and Treacle, for last week! - that represents your birthday cake, and the red dot in the middle is the candle.

Now, might your lad be a prince of the Church, CJ?

And aw, Polly, you read what you like. It's just the miserable stuff doesn't seem exactly you! And yes, you are bang on the nose, the twins are off to fight in France.

MCP, Treacle!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 24/11/2009 22:57

Thanks for birthday wishes, everyone. I've had a gorgeous day.

Moomin, what was yours? I have an idea but am not terribly confident. Yes, my employer was rather high up in the Church, you are spot on as always. Much as I'd like to support him, I don't think my new employer would like it, and I really, really don't want to get on the wrong side of him!

AIBU not to want a birthday party?

CJCregg · 24/11/2009 22:57

PS and Happy Birthday treacle for last week!

steamedtreaclesponge · 25/11/2009 09:51

Sorry, Polly, thought you might have got it too quickly if I gave his job away right at the start! But Pogle's got it, I think - he always does make it back in time! I think he's getting a bit fed up with that book though...

MCP everyone

What was yours, CJ?

Pogleswood · 25/11/2009 12:42

You did Lady Sybil,Treacle! Thank you!

Is "prince of the church" enough to identify yours ,CJ? (though obviously not to me..)or do we need to know which prince of the church ,in which case MCP!

CJCregg · 25/11/2009 13:35

I have no idea what Treacle's was

Prince of the Church is very close, I'm pretty sure Moomin has got it, but I'll wait for her to confirm.

I don't want a birthday party. Don't want any fuss. We haven't got any money, and I don't want charity.

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/11/2009 14:26

Afternoon, everyone! Glad you had a good birthday, CJ, and hope Treacle's was equally fun.

And I'm kicking myself for not spotting Mrs Vimes!

CJ, the particular prince of the Church I was thinking of built himself a very des res Hampton way.

MCP!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 25/11/2009 14:27

Lady Sybil is from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, CJ - they are absolutely brilliant books. Got the new one for my birthday and am saving it for a comfort read at the weekend...

Still stuck on everyone else's though!

AIBU to turn down this millionaire's proposal?

CJCregg · 25/11/2009 14:31

I knew you'd got it, Moomin. (I was being Cromwell in Wolf Hall, ex-employer was poor old Wolsey.)

Discworld next on list, then. Just finished The End of Mr Y, thank you all for recommending it - what a read!

Is no-one interested in my birthday spoiler?

MoominMymbleandMy · 25/11/2009 14:39

Oops, sorry, CJ, my one was The Avenue at War by RF Delderfield.

And would it have been alright if they'd just stuck to giving you some sugared buns for your birthday?

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 25/11/2009 18:07

ah moomin, you could have spun it out because i couldn't remember the title!

treacle, i would never have got your last one....is the millionaire's proposal an indecent one

cj happy birthday....nimcp
