AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

Poledra · 17/11/2009 21:14

CJ, are you a vampire?

CJCregg · 17/11/2009 21:34

No, not a vampire! I'm a lawyer, but to be honest I don't really do much work. Though meeting this girl has made me take my life a bit more seriously, I must admit. I want to help her - she's supporting her little brother on her own, after her unfortunate father was found drowned in the Thames ...

(I understand the apples confusion now. I was almost there with the 'juicy child' reference but distracted by mention of fruit.)

NIMCP!

Poledra · 18/11/2009 12:48

Blood-sucking vampire, lawyer, what's the difference?

NIMCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/11/2009 13:47

Vampires are cheaper, Pol.

It's nigglingly familiar, CJ, which is usually a bad sign for me,

NIMCP everyone!

...I was just so tired this morning that I couldn't drag myself out of bed until the afternoon...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 18/11/2009 15:41

CJ, I have a feeling we are doing the same book! In fact, I believe I am the girl you love, although I don't think it would be right for us to be together. And my ungrateful brother's not helping matters one bit, coming up with his own suitor for me...

CJCregg · 18/11/2009 16:02

Erm, not sure about that, treacle! (Please don't make me go back and reread the entire book ...)

I'm pretty sure I'm not pretending to be dead, although with two men pursuing me I have left London to get a bit of peace. My brother's at school now - that's half the problem, his teacher is one of my 'suitors'.

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/11/2009 17:32

Er...umm...NIMCP!

...So I let the DD forage for herself. She's a sensible little girl and where's the harm in slobbing about in your nightie for once...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 18/11/2009 23:28

sorry about the horse/apples confusion!

cj are you eugene wrayburn?

moomin, as a one off, nbu but if it is a regular thing dh and gp need to know...especially if you are depressed ....
fish, fish....you sound like a [whispers]rachel cusk sort of character??

CJCregg · 18/11/2009 23:56

Yay, polly, what a star you are! Turned out all right in the end, didn't I?

MCP ...

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/11/2009 01:12

Oh well, that was not what I was trying to remember, CJ!

...Only there doesn't seem to be any food left in the house now and the shops are shut...

Night, all!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 19/11/2009 08:26

Ah, CJ, did you never want to "come and be dead" on the roof with the doll's dressmaker?

NIMCP!

pollywobbledoodle · 19/11/2009 10:46

yay, it's time to dance around in my jeans, jumper and thermals
i would never believed i would get a dickens one...mainly because i've only read great expectations, this one and some of pickwick ps...hurrah! cj, he got a good one in lizzie..

so moomin, are you a rachel cusk character?

CJCregg · 19/11/2009 11:53

Sorry, treacle, that part must have completely passed me by. How weird is that, that we were doing almost the same people?

I do love your celebrations, Polly.

AIBU to feel sorry for my employer?

CJCregg · 19/11/2009 11:54

Oh, for God's sake, I've also just realised that I switched from Eugene Wrayburn to Lizzie Hexam mid-AIBU ... started thinking I was treacle, even as I was telling her she was wrong.

steamedtreaclesponge · 19/11/2009 12:02

at CJ

Don't worry, I didn't notice that you turned into me either!

AIBU to not want to visit my family?

pollywobbledoodle · 19/11/2009 12:07

nor me, i was so excited that i thought i'd recognised it that i didn't read on in case i was disappointed [must get out more]

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/11/2009 14:12

at CJ and Treacle doing the same book!

That's a Dickens I've never got round to. But I should have guessed it was him with all the long walks across London.

Sorry, Polly, not Rachel Cusk.

...And what does it matter if the DD doesn't have a bath for one day? But I'm afraid the DH might not see it like that, and I'd rather not have a row...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 20/11/2009 23:32

Evening, all!

...So I thought I'd tell him we had an unexpected visitor who polished off the food. But I'm not sure whether he'll fall for it...

OP posts:
Poledra · 21/11/2009 12:06

It's all right, Moomin, feed him some line about an escaped big cat from the local zoo and you'll be fine - he might even take you out this evening for something to eat!

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/11/2009 13:19

Do you think so, Pol? I did worry whether telling him all the water in the pipes had been drunk might have stretching the poor man's credulity a bit too far!

AIBU to want to go back East?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/11/2009 18:05

Moomin, I'm vaguely casting around here but are you friends with a red-headed girl?

pollywobbledoodle · 22/11/2009 20:05

moomin, do you want to be more than good friends with her?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/11/2009 20:22

Neither, I'm afraid

MCP on your boss, CJ.

...The house has gone and our niece. It takes the heart out of you, something like that...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 22/11/2009 21:03

Ooooh, Moomin, has her little dog gone, too?

My employer - well, he was hugely successful, you see, and sometimes people don't like that. But I have such respect for him, he's an incredible man.

pollywobbledoodle · 22/11/2009 21:09

was thinking about the pesthouse by jim crace (post industrial apocalypse, everyone going east to sail over the enormous lake to a better life. redhead has illness and survives village gas leak by being in pesthouse for isolaton. good book. read the last page this am)
