AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

Not another cheery read, Polly!?

Still clueless on everything. MCP

...He said the passengers had told him they'd seen a horse galloping up and down the corridor of the train. Quite mad...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 14/11/2009 10:31

...no murders in this one!.. just my friend's impending death...there are charlatans everywhere, selling this herb, that potion, that treatment to clear your immune system....they either do nothing or make her so sick....i wonder if she has come to me because i'm cynical?.... Does she need someone to tell her she is going to die?

nimcp!

squaLLANDBonfire · 14/11/2009 13:20

Hello, everyone! No chandeliers for me, I fear - and good thing, as it's too chilly for lycra - 'cos i'm as stumped as a stumped thing and need MCP!

Polly, just fishing here and no idea, but is there any chance that the clinic could persuade you to take some treatment? And Moomin, fishing, but is the horse a conventional one?

As for my hearty breakfast-eater who has breakfasts delivered... yes, prisoners who are no longer useful are sent my way...

llandb · 14/11/2009 13:23

Oops about that - back to normal name

pollywobbledoodle · 14/11/2009 13:25

no llandb, i'm not desperate enough for their treatment, i'm well...btw was solyent green ever made into a book, if so was that yours?

llandb · 14/11/2009 14:01

Hmm, don't think so and it's on my to-watch list. My breakfast is different people! I operate independently from the big cheese in these parts, but we have an understanding....

pollywobbledoodle · 14/11/2009 18:06

ok llandb(wild fishing trip) are you from one of the (very bizarre) kurt vonnegut books?

MoominMymbleandMy · 14/11/2009 18:57

Evening all! Bit wet and windy here.

Polly, does your friend have AIDS, by any chance? And are you a beastie of the scaly persuasion, Llandb?

I can't even fish on CJ's one!

...Now my niece Anna is crying because some railway men have taken a pony off the train. Yes, a pony! I suppose those passengers weren't having nightmares after all. I'm more worried that silly Nicholas has jumped off at the same station in his pyjamas and the guard won't stop the train...

OP posts:
llandb · 14/11/2009 20:56

Aah, thanks for the googlable clues, Moomin! So I suppose they won the lottery after all - but fancy hiding A Pony in the Luggage!

(I have a vague idea that I actually read this some decades ago!)

Er, well, polly, not only have I yet to get around to seeing Solyent Green, but I have yet to get around to reading any Kurt Vonnegut (, I think)

But yes, Moomin, I am scaly and eight-legged and was hoping to eat hobbit! (And was inspired by mini-shelob in llandb's recycling box on Monday morning )

'Night, All, and MCP!

pollywobbledoodle · 14/11/2009 21:59

aah, llandb so i was in the wrong species!

moomin, not AIDS, she has secondaries from her tumour, I'm not sure how long she has to live...i think she should enjoy the time she has left and not make herself feel so sick...

CJCregg · 14/11/2009 23:44

I certainly don't walk in supermarkets - I have no idea what you're referring to. I walk across London - it looks wonderful at night, and it helps take my mind off the girl I love.

As for everyone else's,

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/11/2009 01:31

Poor Llandb! Face it, you are a spider goddess. They love you and want to be close to you. And I have to confess I was thinking of the wrong scaly beastie so you could have let Shelob run a bit longer.

Polly, what a terror you are for 'feelgood' novels. Still NIMCP, I'm afraid.

Does the girl you love have a very irritating little dog and lack a bit in the brain cell department, CJ?

AIBU to be cross that they keep pinching my meals?

Night, all!

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 15/11/2009 12:01

cj (thought you might be the girl/security guard in what was lost)...so have you seen a woman in white on your travels?

moomin, mine is a surprisingy lovely book! (honestly)....anyway she doesn't really want to hear what i have to say...she's leaving to go to other friends who are more supportive of her drive to beat the illness rather than enjoy the time she has left....i'm sad she's going but it would have been so hard to live in the same house with such different views...not fair on her really...

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/11/2009 17:55

Evening, all!

Hmm, still utterly stumped on your dying pal, Polly, but I'll take your word that it's lovely - thousands wouldn't .

...I don't care if it's against their principles. It isn't against mine and they've no right to keep snatching my lovely, juicy food away...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 16/11/2009 23:24

moomin, neigh, they shouldn't steal your apples...

....well that leaves me and my spare room really empty...

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 01:08

Aha, many thanks for the Google-able clue, Polly. And, my goodness, what reviews it's getting. OK, it's now on the to-read list.

...Apples! Apples! I wanted a juicy little child!...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 17/11/2009 09:24

Morning all.

The girl I love is beautiful and gentle. She's too good for me, even though she's of a lower class. I just can't get her out of my mind. But I have a rival ...

pollywobbledoodle · 17/11/2009 09:55

glad you got The Spare Room moomin, i would have struggled to dredge up another clue. it deserves good reviews, it's a beautiful book, especially if you've supported someone in a similar situation.

moomin are you a giant up a beanstalk or a witch in a gingerbread house?

cj are you living in victorian times?

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/11/2009 13:17

Hello everyone! Did you miss me?

Spilt ginger beer on my laptop which is now not working

And have just started a new job so am trying (and failing) not to spend too much time on here!

AIBU to pretend to be dead?

NIMCP!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 14:14

Treacle! Of course we did. But how very U of you to drink ginger beer? I tried it once and was so disappointed. The Famous Five must have been off their heads to guzzle the stuff.

Good luck with the new job, and as for your AIBU, is this something to do with the course of true love never running smoothly? In which case, it's very U indeed and the pair of you need your heads knocked together.

Wilkie Collins, CJ?

...I'm not a giant but I am enormous...

OP posts:
Poledra · 17/11/2009 14:16

Are you a dragon Moomin (though I have no clue which one exactly, you're just sounding a bit, well, dragony, for want of a better word)?

steamedtreaclesponge · 17/11/2009 14:21

Moomin, do you have a smaller, wimpier brother?

...Not R&J, thankfully, although my life doesn't seem to be running any more smoothly than theirs! It's just so peaceful up here...

I love ginger beer but would definitely disagree with some of the Five's other favourite foodstuffs (cold tongue springs to mind...)

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 17:51

Hmm, NIMCP!

...I'm not a dragon but I am reptilian and have an awful lot of teeth...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 17/11/2009 18:37

Moomin, I don't remember the apples bit but do you know a monkey called Mugglewump?

Yes, I am Victorian, Polly! I don't like my rival, don't trust him, he seems a violent type.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 20:51

Why yes, indeed I do, CJ, and an interfering little pest he is! The apples were an offering from Polly and I was attempting to reply in the spirit of the EC but managing to confuse people instead.

Hmm, the only lower class type I can think of with a violent boyfriend is Nancy but she doesn't fit really.

MCP!

AIBU to lie to my DH?
