AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

Oh, llandb, that is beyond clever. Poor Bonnie Butler evidently didn't have the showjumping gene!

pollywobbledoodle · 09/11/2009 13:37

ah, cj and llandb am none the wiser, what is it...

moomin if it is copenhagen is it anything to do with hand christian anderson (vague net casting...)

.....i really couldn't bear to be a servant all my life...

pollywobbledoodle · 09/11/2009 13:38

(or even his more well known brother hans )

squaLLANDBonfire · 09/11/2009 14:10

CJ, only because that was in my to-do list! (But I was going to be Scarlett, not Rhett)

polly I had suspected that your boss might be the chancellor and you wanted the shiny red suitcase, but now I suspect your boss has a white beard and a jolly laugh (though no idea what the book is, even if so)

... I have to wait for my breakfasts to come to me, though...

MoominMymbleandMy · 09/11/2009 16:12

It was still clever, Llandb.

Hmmm, still NIMCP!

...It began when I took them to the zoo...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 09/11/2009 19:34

Evening - NIMCP to all!

...really, at her age, trousers and a roguish crop of curls aren't necessary - and I gather she was planning to drive an ambulance...

pollywobbledoodle · 09/11/2009 21:13

pogle is your aunt part of the nightwatch?

moomin,no beard.
llandb, no briefcase

...i used to be a driver and dogsbody...my oldest boss had bad feet, i had to wash and massage them daily until the water was cold and full of flakes....the smell of feet never comes off your skin!....now i own my own taxi company...admittedly i had to kill my other boss to get the money but i have no regrets...would you?

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/11/2009 00:09

Eeeww, Polly! Is this your revenge for all the spooky stories?

Still NIMCP, alas.

...Now it's the only place they want to visit. I know children like zoos but there are other attractions in Copenhagen...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 10/11/2009 10:30

[belated evil cackle]
utterly bemused about others...

pollywobbledoodle · 10/11/2009 10:32

oops, pressed to early

....i never wanted to be a rickshaw driver like my dad....

MoominMymbleandMy · 10/11/2009 18:15

Ah, a spot of cheating by Google tells me that you want to be a Man with a Big Belly, Polly! I shall keep an eye out for that. It looks interesting.

...Even when I took them to the Glyptotek Museum all they would talk about was the zoo. I can't understand it...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 10/11/2009 21:31

moomin, it is an interesting book(with a weak device of him telling his story to the chinese premier who is about to visit india, this seems to provide a couple of laughs but ultimately go nowhere)worth a read

have googled yours....to no avail!

CJCregg · 11/11/2009 18:56

Wakey, wakey, everyone!

NIMCP on everything, but AIBU to go for a walk?

(By the way, Moomin, sorry I didn't respond before but am delighted that your DD enjoyed Jane's adventures.)

Pogleswood · 11/11/2009 19:33

Well,I'm awake!

NIMCP from me too -CJ, going for a walk sounds reasonable - unless of course you are a heroine in a romance and likely to get soaked, leading to illness...or a hen and likely to be eaten...or might someone with evil intent be lying in wait for you?
On second thoughts,best stay in...

...realise we are At War,and I should Make Allowances, but next time she tells me that she is an Old Woman, and what does it matter if she keels over from overwork - why,it doesn't in the least bit,I may have to agree with her. Character probably flawed...

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/11/2009 19:50

Ah, cogs start to cogitate again, I hope! Would not a Lady such as yourself be better off doing her bit in the Provinces, Pogle?

It was much loved, CJ.

...Now, I realise they were desperate to buy some of the zoo's lottery tickets. I could have told them people never win anything in lotteries...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/11/2009 20:05

Possibly,Moomin - certainly London is full of well qualified people looking for war work, and we are all being told to Stand By...

More clues!

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/11/2009 20:47

That was very clever, Pogle. Your last clue was exactly the Provincial Lady's style.

...And now we've lost my niece! She vanished while we were at the zoo. How is she going to find her way back to the hotel. How I wish we had stayed at home in Sweden...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 11/11/2009 22:51

Thanks Moomin!

Hmm,googling away here - does yours have a Pippi Longstocking connection?

MoominMymbleandMy · 11/11/2009 23:45

No, sorry, Pogle. Other than the author is also a Swedish woman.

...She's back! I can't tell you how relieved I am. But I am a bit annoyed at the hotel for saying the children are disturbing the other guests by stamping and jumping in their room...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 12/11/2009 21:08

evening!
well i only know 3 swedish authors and (having looked them up) they are all men...googling only seems to lead to obscurity (or for some reason female genital mutilation)....so maybe more googleable clues please moomin

AIBU to object to my friend wanting to spend money she doesn't really have at a clinic?

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/11/2009 22:11

Poor Polly!

MCP on the spendthrift pal!

...But I think it must have been a rather odd hotel. I was really quite cross when I found the porter had shut himself in the children's wardrobe. His laugh sounded just like neighing! I'm sure the man was drunk...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 13/11/2009 11:49

Well,I know 2 other swedish women writers but can't match this to either of them!Or is this a Moomintroll book in disguise? (or was she finnish?)
MCP on both..

CJCregg · 13/11/2009 12:52

NIMCP ...

Nothing wrong with walking, I suppose. I prefer it at night, though.

MoominMymbleandMy · 13/11/2009 17:55

Not a Moomintroll book and you're quite right, Pogle, Tove Jansson was Finnish.

Sorry for the delay, someone had walked off with the book and I needed it to refresh my memory!

NIMCP on everyone's.

...Really, I do begin to wonder about Danish people. First the railway porter who came to collect the luggage allowed the children to tip out all my clothes and went off with an empty trunk. Now the train guard is waking me up in the middle of the night to tell me about the other passengers' nightmares...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 13/11/2009 20:16

cj do you walk around a shopping centre?

....i think i might have to go and tell the clinic what i think about them selling empty promises dressed up as hope for those who need to believe...
