AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 19:59

Squeak, squeak, Treacle! Now that one is downright scary and audacious. What a miserable cop-out the film was.

...I'm not Mary Shelley but a happily married, good-looking, well-off mother-of-two. That's why I think I'm being U to be so upset. But I used to have this dream a lot when I was a child...

Pogleswood · 30/10/2009 20:15

What was yours ,Treacle?

...really,she's hopeless - and they are all acting as if the vampires are normal people...

MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 20:36

Umm, Pogle, are we in soggy Seattle with the biggest drip of all time? I'd certainly describe her as hopeless and the DD discarded the book halfway through in disgust at all the "soppiness".

I love a good Victorian/Edwardian ghost story. They really were masters of the subtle chill down the spine.

Chills coming up

...It's quite an ordinary sort of dream only whenever I had it I always had an awful nightmnare the following night. And it was always the same nightmare...

MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 20:37

Or even nightmare

Pogleswood · 30/10/2009 22:45

Is that Bella again? No,and if it is I haven't read those,I can't quite bring myself to..

...Every time they get near the vampires they go all woolly - just as well I'm not affected.I think it's confusing the vampires though...

Pogleswood · 30/10/2009 22:46

Also meant to add MCP!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 30/10/2009 23:12

Boo!

You're all giving me the shivers (trying hard not to lapse into Pirate Talk)

And confusion, too! MCP!

As I'm unable to to think of anything properly scary (apart from Bertie Wooster's aunties - or Bertie Wooster, from point of view of his aunties ), it's cheating time:

AIBU to spell my name unconventionally?

MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 23:33

Ah Pogle, might there be a lad called Igor with an interesting 'lithp' in your one?

And yes, I was thinking of the spineless Bella. I read them because I wanted to know what the fuss was about and the Red House sold the first three for peanuts.
Quite fun and very good at recreating adolescent obsession but the heroine is vacuous and the books get worse as the series goes on - mind you, I haven't bothered with number 4 yet.

MCP, everyone!

...In the dream I'm alone and walking along a cliff path to a ruined church in a neglected graveyard...

Pogleswood · 31/10/2009 07:59

Of course ,Moomin! So I don't need to rush out now this minute to read Twilight then? That was rather the impression I'd got.

llandb - YABU,just spell it like everyone else does!

MCP!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 31/10/2009 09:43

I don't think I know anyone's!

MCP!

Well, all I did was invert the first two letters (not a character called 'llandb' then!)

I suppose it is a bit U. But it was not a mistake, for I have brains!

MoominOnABroomstick · 31/10/2009 13:07

No, I wouldn't rush out to buy Twilight, Pogle. It is inadvertently quite funny in parts, as in mass murder is merely an unfortunate character quirk, but pre-marital sex is strictly frowned on!

No ideas on Llandb's, Polly's or CJ's (if you're back from frivolling on the Broads ) so MCP.

...And in the nightmare that always followed the next night I'm in the same place and a man appears out of nowhere and says: "I shall come for you when you are older,"...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 31/10/2009 14:21

Brr, shudder - and MCP!

... Nothing the least bit spooky going on, but my kind is associated with Halloween (so it's allowed ). Oh, and no, I'm not feline...

MoominOnABroomstick · 31/10/2009 15:01

Hmm, witch or ghostie, Llandb? MCP!

...It was just as I dreaded. The nightmare came back. Only this time the man said: "I shall soon come for you now."...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 31/10/2009 21:27

Aaah! (Goes and hides head under pillow because Moomin's is scary)

NIMCP!

...I have wings - and my big-eared friends says I have brains....

Hope everyone is being suitably scary

pollywobbledoodle · 31/10/2009 22:00

he's an adult but he has no idea what a bad crowd he has fallen in with....i don't think he can make his own decisions, i need to rescue him

(need to go and watch the thick of it, i'll be back!(in the style of the terminator)to read the rest)

MoominOnABroomstick · 31/10/2009 23:14

Hmm, are you an owl, Llandb?

NIMCP on your one, Polly.

...I told myself I was being silly and the next day I decided to visit a gallery to cheer myself up. But one of the portraits was of the man from my nightmare...

Pogleswood · 01/11/2009 10:03

Aargh - v spooky ,Moomin - still no idea who you are....

If not an owl,are you a bat, llandb? Though I don't think I know any books with bats in!

MCP,all!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 01/11/2009 13:43

Yep, an owl (whooo, whooo!) - and I'm always happy to offer advice...

(Off to google others - More Keywords Clues would be appreciated though!)

Pogleswood · 01/11/2009 14:03

"Ples ring if an rnser is reqird?" perhaps, llandb?

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 01/11/2009 14:17

Yay, Pogle! Ples vsit me at the Wolery, too

MoominOnABroomstick · 01/11/2009 17:23

Ohhh! That owl! A bit too fixated on spooky critters here.

...It's a Vandyck portrait so Sir Roger Wyburn must have died two centuries ago. Perhaps I saw it as a child and it scared me. That face would frighten anyone...

CJCregg · 01/11/2009 18:04

Evening, all! Back from Norfolk, wasn't anywhere near the Broads but did have a lovely walk along the beach, fab. And lots of lovely food. And sunshine and autumn colours.

Never did get that Halloween name ... will have to start thinking about a Christmas one instead.

I have NO IDEA what anyone is talking about, although Moomin's sounds brilliant.

I'm not a spider. Just a normal girl. My sister's husband died, leaving her with the two children, and I'm a bit worried about getting into a relationship because there seems to be this curse on the family ...

pollywobbledoodle · 01/11/2009 21:25

nimcp

...they will take him to the initiation ceremony tonight, we will have to rescue him then...whatever mocata tries to do to us...

pollywobbledoodle · 01/11/2009 21:26

ps glad you had a gd hol cj

MoominOnABroomstick · 01/11/2009 23:34

Glad you had a good time, CJ - ooh, we've still got them, MN must be celebrating Witch Week .

Thank you for the Google-able clue, Polly, very handy sort of character name. I've never read any of these. Are they worth a try?

...I had the nightmare again at our weekend cottage in Rye, and when we were back in London too. Dr Baring thinks I am run down and need a rest. Somewhere quiet on the coast would be best...
