AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
CJCregg · 28/10/2009 10:44

It's just that boyfriends and husbands in our family don't seem to last very long ...

Pogleswood · 28/10/2009 16:39

Hmm - are you another bird,Treacle? And if so is your limited conversation "nevermore"?
Have absolutely no idea what else it did though,so could well be way off
I'm not Bella,

...the thing is,nobody gets away from vampires,do they? So how did I do it?...

MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 28/10/2009 18:47

Hmm, MN is really playing up tonight. I've been waiting impatiently for it to appear only to realise all the words are under the acres of blank space.

So, might it be sunny where you are, Pogle?

Very NIMCP on the others, but have a super frivolous time in Norfolk, CJ. Watch out for those Broads!

Pogleswood · 28/10/2009 19:37

If I have any choice at all I will definately be in the sunshine,Moomin!

Can't think of any plot hinging on a character becoming 12 - MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 28/10/2009 20:05

Whee! I do feel extra thick when I don't recognise books I've read and there's just been two of those, so I'm not feeling quite so dim now.

...It's very generous of him to give me a home now I've been orphaned but he is rather distant. Thank goodness, the housekeeper is so nice...

treaclespongeofdeath · 28/10/2009 20:30

Still stuck on everyone else's though - more clues please!

AIBU to disapprove of this boy?

pollywobbledoodle · 28/10/2009 20:38

cj...are you a black widow spider?
(am about to lose any RWAView kudos i had!)
have a lovely hol, am , i love the broads...

treacle is he precocious?

AIBU not to enjoy the slug eating contests?

MoominOnABroomstick · 28/10/2009 21:39

Were you being Mortimer before, Treacle?

Back to stumped mode. NIMCP!

...The housekeeper told me all about the two waifs he took in. One was a gipsy girl and the other one was a wandering Italian boy who played the hurdy gurdy...

Pogleswood · 28/10/2009 21:40

That's the trouble with this thread - 5 seconds of smugness and the glow of success and then back to MCP,all!

Treacle,I don't suppose you'd like to share exactly why you disapprove of him?
Polly,YA definitely NBU - sounds gross...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 28/10/2009 22:22
lwfhthevampireslayer · 28/10/2009 23:08

ah hello again, sorry for the delay, yes from Shakespeare, but no I didn't get the cat loving PI from Luton reference. oh dear.

lwfh stands for longwayfromhome - sorry not particularly significant I just wanted a bit of a shorter version!

and I'm not doing very well with guessing any of the others. Will keep my eye out for clues ...

MoominOnABroomstick · 28/10/2009 23:28

I shall save the cat-loving PI from Luton for the future.

All smugness was merely momentary, Pogle, and Llandb, at least he wasn't an auntie of the crushing persuasion!

...So he must be a good man, mustn't he? It was odd that the gipsy girl just vanished a few weeks later. The Italian boy did too, and he left the hurdy gurdy behind...

Pogleswood · 28/10/2009 23:52

Didn't mean you were smug,Moomin - I meant that I was!(not for long,though..)
Yours is sounding rather sinister - MCP!

MoominOnABroomstick · 29/10/2009 00:39

Ooh, I went back to MN Classic after briefly flirting with this newfangled version which has now developed acres of white space.

And it's even worse tonight - all scrunched up and titchy!

Pogle, don't worry! All smugness is so fleeting on this thread that we might as well enjoy it for the brief instants we can!
Mine is creepy, isn't it.

...I wonder what made the scratches on the outside of my bedroom door...

Night all!

treaclespongeofdeath · 29/10/2009 10:13

Yours sounds really spooky, Moomin! I was actually being Poe's raven but I suppose my clues would have fitted Mortimer equally well.

Polly, yours sounds rather grim... MCP!

...He's just not the sort of guest we're used to having at this hotel. The poor maid almost died of fright when she went into his room this morning...

pollywobbledoodle · 29/10/2009 13:31

and no sooner have i come bottom in the slug eating contest (12 and that is 12 too many IMO) than Bully Bogeywart has a go at me....

everyone else...nimcp

MoominOnABroomstick · 29/10/2009 14:20

Well, no not really, Treacle, there's not much spooky about Arabel's Raven so I was just being dim there.

Aha, Polly, I'd guess you're not over the moon about it then.

...And there's a lot of tears in my nightshirt, long parallel ones. But it was fine when when I went to sleep...

pollywobbledoodle · 29/10/2009 21:36

well done moomin, i am indeed oliver moon...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 29/10/2009 22:56

CJ, have fun on the beach and I hope you packed all the scarves just in case.

Cusses, Moomin, for getting in first with the Broads joke

vampireslayer, yay, another acronymer!

MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 00:33

Certainly counts as nasty, Llandb, shame you couldn't have set an auntie to work!

...Ooh, this is exciting! I'm to go down to the study late tonight and not tell anyone about it. I wonder what Mr Abney wants...

NIMCP and night all!

pollywobbledoodle · 30/10/2009 02:40

aaargh! can't sleep...

shouldn't google....i presume your mr abney isn't from pg wodehouse, moomin

aibu to think my friend is old enough to make his own mind up about where he wants to live?

Pogleswood · 30/10/2009 10:11

Morning all! I've been googling too,Moomin - my first search helpfully gave me one of your clues at the top of the list...And the moral of this story is that killing people to gain mystical powers is very wrong, and no good will come of it!

So Polly, this does depend a little on how old your friend actually is - 6? probably YABU,70? YANBU. MCP.

...so,AIBU to make her warn them about the vampires?

treaclespongeofdeath · 30/10/2009 10:36

Ah, well done Pogle - I've read some James but I always get scared and have to put the book down after a couple of stories!

...I just hope he behaves himself this afternoon - we've got all these lovely charitable ladies coming in for a conference...

MoominOnABroomstick · 30/10/2009 16:54

Well done, Pogle! I love MR James' ghost stories, though perhaps not late at night.

Treacle, are you sure the charitable ladies are charitable, or even human?

NIMCP on the others, I'm afraid.

AIBU to be so upset by a dream?

treaclespongeofdeath · 30/10/2009 18:49

Ah - was it the gloves and clumpy shoes that gave it away, Moomin?

And are you Mary Shelley?

NIMCP!
