AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

OP posts:
treaclespongeofdeath · 27/10/2009 11:16

NIMCP... am totally stuck

And welcome Vampireslayer! Which reminds me - I think we should get started on our scary themes now, it is nearly Halloween, after all...

ooOOOOOOoooooo

...he's been learning all sorts of new things, and I'm sure it's affecting his appetite - his father and I are worn out trying to get enough food for him!

MoominOnABroomstick · 27/10/2009 11:27

Morning all!

Oh, lummee, I've just been checking and mine was on TV 25 years ago! I really am an Aged Parent.

NIMCP completely on everyone else's.

...I should have realised I wasn't going to have a happy ending. I did marry my true love and set up home in our beloved Sennacharib but I was so badly wounded by the Germans that I'm not long for this world...

treaclespongeofdeath · 27/10/2009 11:35

NIMCP...

Moomin, have tried googling yours but no luck

...I just hope his flying improves soon, he was mistaken for a Catherine Wheel the other day...

MoominOnABroomstick · 27/10/2009 12:57

Are you an owlet who's afraid of the dark, Treacle?

...It was a bit of an ill-starred life. You couldn't call me a Queen of Hearts, more of a mighty huntress...

treaclespongeofdeath · 27/10/2009 13:25

I'm the owlet's mother - thank goodness he's now realised that dark is kind and dark is exciting!

And you are Diana, I take it? Have never ever heard of this author before, is it worth looking him up?

treaclespongeofdeath · 27/10/2009 13:27

So, to start the halloween theme...

AIBU to refuse to leave?

MoominOnABroomstick · 27/10/2009 13:59

The owlet's mother, yes, of course, sloppy Moomin .

Diana is definitely one of his weaker books but The Dreaming Suburb and its sequel The Avenue at War are well worth reading, as is To Serve Them All My Days (I bet you've heard of that one). He's a good, old-fashioned storyteller with likeable characters, a decent plot and no too clever by half annoying trickery.

More details please, Treacle, and more clues on everyone else's, please!

Scary theme coming up...

AIBU to wonder why my uncle keeps asking me my age?

Pogleswood · 27/10/2009 14:43

ah,another one to add to the must-read list(Diana - I have read The Owl one!)

AIBU to not tell them about the vampires?

treaclespongeofdeath · 27/10/2009 15:09

Ooh, Pogle, it really all depends on who "them" are... your parents? The local friendly werewolf pack? The travellers heading up to the spooky castle on the hill? Three old women on broomsticks with a mangy cat?

Any of those?

...I don't seem to be a welcome guest, but I suppose my conversation is rather limited...

MoominOnABroomstick · 27/10/2009 15:55

Magrat is not old, Treacle! Just geeky.

And is your conversation limited to banging on about Fate and forgotten bones?

...He's really a distant cousin but much older than me. I'd never met him before but he asked me my age twice in the first couple of minutes...

Pogleswood · 27/10/2009 17:36

...well,anyone,really...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 27/10/2009 18:31

Treacle, 'Eek'! Are you doing a halloween animal theme?

(Have been on children's health thread discovering that DD isn't about to come down with the pox or transmit it to the preggers category of the world after all - if things change I shall ask y'all to go there and give advice!)

Hello vampire! It's probably obvious to everyone but me, but may I ask who or what lwfh is? I'm guessing, 'Ludwig the Forward Half'. (LLANDB is lemon, lime and bitters because someone else had taken gin and tonic)

Well, you lot, MCP! And we'd better finish mine so I can do a spooky one... or perhaps I can make it spooky!

... perhaps now her family have hit even harder times, I can win her back (now that she's inadvertently persuaded me away from preaching so I don't mind a bit of temptation)...

Pogleswood · 27/10/2009 19:04

llandb, yours is driving me to distraction here,MCP! (so,re:your comments on Cuthbert, are you preaching in the North?)

...the problem is that if I do tell them, they'll make assumptions about me. I can't tell them about him either..

pollywobbledoodle · 27/10/2009 21:13

cj will she have a room with a view?

treacle, does your baby like avocados?

am about as good on halloween as i was on pirates

pollywobbledoodle · 27/10/2009 21:20

desperation...llandb, is the woman rain?

spooky oooooooooooooooooooooh!!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 27/10/2009 22:15

Hmm, polly, who is this rain woman then?

Pogle, sorry, not sure what i said (have done something to browser again, probably opened some dodgey tabs and it is slooooow so going back pages is painful )

...but I'm actually doing my wandering open-air preaching in the SW of England.

... I helped her one night on the family allotment and bought toys for her little siblings and gave her finery to wear - you'd think she'd be grateful. But, no! (insert spooky) - she's coming at me with a knife!

Very very puzzled - MCP!

pollywobbledoodle · 27/10/2009 22:23

Rain...desperate attempt at googling (last refuge of a scoundrel!)

have absolutely no idea...

Pogleswood · 27/10/2009 22:31

That's another one for the must-read list then,Polly...

Well,I thought you might be a Poldark type person, llandb - but having read your last,I guess not.(Hardy??) MCP,and quickly! (pretty please!)

..I just want to forget it all,and get back to making cinnamon rolls...

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 27/10/2009 22:41

Chandelier time for you, Pogle (in a spooky cosutme) - perhaps my father shouldn't have bought the d'Urberville title after all!

I wouldn't mind a cinnamon roll but NIMCP - and a spooky goodnight to all!

dangskuLLANDBoneym · 27/10/2009 22:43

Gosh, polly, please do that rain book and then AIBU it

(Oh dear, ignorant on Poldark )

pollywobbledoodle · 27/10/2009 22:45

and did tess for a level as well...

llandb....not if that means i'd have to read it

Pogleswood · 27/10/2009 22:52

Oooh, can I wear skin tight lycra(and a witches hat, perhaps) - even though that was pure fluke and no book title was mentioned??

(actually, won't need to read some of these books at all after seeing them AIBU'd here!)

Night all!

CJCregg · 27/10/2009 23:21

Polly, you are clever - I believe her companion will indeed be ensuring a good view of Firenze ...

I am completely and utterly stumped on everybody's. Can't think of any spooky ideas.

Pogleswood · 28/10/2009 09:54

Enjoy your frivolity in Norfolk,CJ!
And if you've read the Booker shortlist, you'll be a finer and better person for it (etc, etc),even if it's no help at all here!

Is your lover likely to die,or are you just being neurotic?

...I mean - what normal human has a friend who is a vampire...

treaclespongeofdeath · 28/10/2009 10:29

Wow, I missed out on a lot here - bit confused now.

MCP on yours please Pogle... are you Bella? And MCP to everyone else too!

Thanks for the info on your name, llandb, I had always wondered about that.

Yes, I am another animal, and my conversation's even more limited than fate and forgotten bones...
