To find it a bit odd when people go through several prams in the space of a few months?

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 09:42

I sometimes read posts on here from 'pram addicts' who despite having only one or two childrem have had several different prams and pushchairs.

I just read a pushchair review on another site that said: 'So far since my 9 month old son's birth I've had a Micralite fastfold, 2 quinny zapps, a fisher price safe voyager, a loola and this quest sport.'

Does that sound like overkill to anyone else?

Sorry if I offend anyone and I'm sure I'll be told if that's the case but I just don't get why you would need to keep changing prams?

I think well done to the ladies who get old prams, do them up and sell them on at a profit. It's a great business idea, eco friendly too, and presumably a way to make money without having to fork out on childcare. This thread has been a revelation to me. I did not have a clue what the word h*n mean't, I thought maybe it was a rude word for ladies bits. Now I know it is not.

Santaslittlehelpersmum · 04/12/2008 11:21

why would it be a class issue Wife&mother? think it very strange to bring class into it

hippipotami · 04/12/2008 11:23

I have not read the whole thread, but I went through 4 prams when ds was little.
For me it was teh manifestation of pnd. I struggled being a mum, struggled with day to day life and somehow thought 'if I had teh perfect pushchair everthing else will be fine too'.

It was nothing to do with showing off, nothign to do with beign bored of teh first pram and everything to do with 'making it all allright'.
In fact I envied those mothers with old beaten up loved prams, because they seemed so 'sorted'. I was envious because they had obviously found teh perfect pram first time and I was unable to do the same.

I am not saying that is the reason for multiple pram buying for everyone, but for me it was very much so.

In fact, with dd I used ds's fourth pram (bloody brilliant it was too) and then moved her into a Maclaren which I happily used for 3 years.

But with ds I was all over the place

WifeandMotherof4 · 04/12/2008 11:28

PND aside, I just can't imagine a woman with anything else to do, like a job, being so bothered about wasting money on prams. I speak as a money waster and always think it ties me to a working class mentality... People who waste money rarely have any.

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 04/12/2008 11:34

That's a bit unfair wifeandmother, plenty of people have jobs and waste their money on far less useful things. Would you say the same about someone spending money on lots of bags or shoes?

babyjjbaby · 04/12/2008 11:36

tbh i don't see why it woulkd intrest any1 else what other people spend there money on

pushchair · 04/12/2008 11:42

Oh I find it fascinating. Like reading Hello and seeing what slebs live like it's interesting but not something I could generally get worked up about.

hollyandnoah · 04/12/2008 11:47

Lol, I have a job. I work 4 days a week and go to college one morning (this morning)!
And i like prams too.
You can stop trying to imagine it now :D Hello.

MrsMagooo · 04/12/2008 11:53

It's not "wasting money" - when I sell a pram on I always break even at the very least but 9/10 I make a profit!

A lot of the time I buy prams simply to sell on for profit - few extra pennies in my back pocket plus I got to try out another pram

I make no apologies for my hobby/love of prams - why should I? It's my life, my time, my money, my business!

WifeandMotherof4 · 04/12/2008 11:55

Buying and selling on sounds like money making, not wasting!
Besides I am bitter today, so just ignore me!
I've wasted money on stuff I cannot even put my hands on.

nicolamumof3 · 04/12/2008 12:30

no no money wasting here! made lots of profits on the last two pushchairs i've bought and just bought another 'cheap' one that even i if i use it first and sell it i will still make on. i think its quite an 'art' to find the bargain and sell in the right place and the right time for a large profit so well done to us pram addicts i say!

It is certainly not a class issue, i work very hard for the money i have and enjoy my hobby!

kiddiz · 04/12/2008 12:32

I'm interested how you make money out of selling second hand prams. I tried to sell DD's Silver Cross travel system which was in very good condition but eventually ended up donating it to a charity shop because I was fed up of it being in the way. It then sat in the charity shop for about 6 months. I know because I used to pass it every day!

nicolamumof3 · 04/12/2008 12:38

it depends on the make, the condition, what people want at the time! when you buy/sell a few you get to know

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 04/12/2008 12:48

Hmm.... yes it's those of us who like prams who dont have a job/life...?

I'd say it's more the ones who are bothered by people who like prams that seem to have nothing better to do than check out other people's addiction and judge on it who dont have a life, I really dont get why you even care?

And wishyouwould thinkImightflounce I think you'll find that it was you who started stirring the shit deary, pushchair is on here ALL the time and I talk to her quite alot and I have to say I've yet to see a snide comment anywhere near as ruide and TBH quite so pointless as basicallly everything I've seen you say on this thread. Okay 'doll'

lillychristmaspuddingandpie · 04/12/2008 12:55

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 04/12/2008 13:06

I'm confused, I thought thinkimightflounce was pro pram-changing?

OP posts:
MrsMagooo · 04/12/2008 13:08

LOL Mama

Kiddiz it all depends on colour, make, condition, accessories, age etc etc. There's an "art" to finding the right bargain that you know you can make a profit on. I often pick up prams at bootsales, charity shops & local papers that I know I can make a decent profit on.

I once bought a pram at a bootsale for £5 & sold on £45, I also picked up a pram for £70 & sold it the next day for £165!

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 04/12/2008 13:10

think she is but she was just being downright offensive and very extrememly positively (watching charlie and lola) rude to pushchair about stuff ythat she twisted.

And the top comment was retaliation to... mifeandmotherof4 I think... yes as she said that we cant have jobs or lives.

nicolamumof3 · 04/12/2008 13:10
