To find it a bit odd when people go through several prams in the space of a few months?

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 02/12/2008 09:42

I sometimes read posts on here from 'pram addicts' who despite having only one or two childrem have had several different prams and pushchairs.

I just read a pushchair review on another site that said: 'So far since my 9 month old son's birth I've had a Micralite fastfold, 2 quinny zapps, a fisher price safe voyager, a loola and this quest sport.'

Does that sound like overkill to anyone else?

Sorry if I offend anyone and I'm sure I'll be told if that's the case but I just don't get why you would need to keep changing prams?

YANBU OP - it seems a bit daft, but I suppose if it makes people happy, then fair enough.

Ds is 20mths old, and I bought a Silver Cross Linear Freeway when he was born. We used that until he was 13/14mths and it started creaking under his weight. Got a cheap Argos buggy, which I'm still using now, and hopefully he'll be walking everywhere soon and won't need it. The buggy is admittedly falling apart, the wheels don't work well on smooth surfaces, and it doesn't have much shopping space, but it does its job. The Silver Cross will be pulled out again for subsequent kids.

My mum still has a Maclaren from when my 12yr old brother was young, which she uses when she has ds. I also had a sling, which I didn't use much, and a backpack which I used quite a lot, as I hate being tied down by a buggy. I would love to get a wrap sling with the next dc, but am put off by the price so I might make one.

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 22:26

I have a Mei Tai from Easyslings.com - was just under £40 posted which I didn't think was bad at all - best sling I've ever bought!

Santaslittlehelpersmum · 02/12/2008 22:29

umm Nappie you dont seem to be doing to badly yourself thats 4 doubles I make it maybe you should take your own advice!!!!

MrsMagooo · 02/12/2008 22:32

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/12/2008 22:36

I begrudged paying a fortune for a piece of fabric to tie ds2 to myself so i went to the african fabric shop and bought a piece from there lovely bright orange with tribal masks on it lol

WE love it but i di get some strange looks

carrielou2007 · 03/12/2008 08:41

I am a pramaholic and can assure you I am perfectly sane.

I am a hardworking single mum and have the money to do so, it is my 'thing' and when I sell them on I keep back the money to go towards the next one.

I don't spend my money on the latest jeans seen on Victoria Beckham or the bag Jen Lopez is using. However if someone wants to spend their money in such a way I would not point the finger and tell them they have a problem as it is their choice.

I don't spend my money on cigs or alcohol and I hate buying clothes, I dress to fit my shape not the latest fashion.

I do not laugh at people who enjoy buying clothes as that would be very rude and I have much better manners than that.

elmoandella · 03/12/2008 09:42

here here carrie. - i'm same with clothes. i buy what suits me. not latest fashion. and hence its a damn sight cheaper. leaves plenty of cash to spend on my addiction hobby

rarely drink. or go outside without dc attached to me.

i do have certain buggies that i'm happy with. that were bought new and will be kept on till i know longer need prams.these are my doubles. and my big baby pram which was a silver cross sleepover. but i no longer need it so it went.

it's just my single i'm not content with. and will continue swapping and pimping till i'm satisfied or no longer need one.

lillypie · 03/12/2008 09:43

Well said carrielou

A lot of comments on this thread have been plain rude.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 03/12/2008 09:44

Can I just say, as the OP, I don't condone the rude names. I just thought it was a bit odd, but actually, now that people have explained that they sell the prams on and often for a profit it makes much more sense to me

That said, I still couldn't get excited over a pram, but each to their own

OP posts:
lisad123 · 03/12/2008 10:01

well said carrie, I am a pram hun too It doesnt hurt anyone, I always buy bargains and esell to buy the one I want. I dont waste my bill money on them, and Im happy, its my hobby. Same as someone who has loads of shoes and bags ect.
I dont see the reason for name calling. and tbh it isnt affecting you so why do you care??

elmoandella · 03/12/2008 10:18

if you buy bags, clothes, or shoes you never get a return. at least with prams i get money back.

p.s i dont get a huge excitement out of buying clothes or bags. but do from prams. so each to their own.

no need for name calling.

i really detest the term hun used for anything.

idobelieveinsanta · 03/12/2008 10:22

Oh yes i love prams...for some women it is hundreds of pairs of shoes or handbags....for others it is prams!!!!

mine have just outgrown prams now

So instead i have fun choosing DD (4) dolls pram instead!!!!

just got her a mamas and papas polka spring chassy one.....she hates it but i love it .

crazy us!!!

MrsMagooo · 03/12/2008 10:29

Very well said Carrie!!

I really don't see the need for name calling - it's rather rude & very uncalled for.

I for one don't smoke, I don't drink, I'm a home bird so rarely go out 'on the town', I'm not into designer labels clothes, shoes, bags etc.

I for one can't understand these women who quite happily spend a few hundred pound on a pair of shoes or £450 on a haircut but hey it's their money so let them!

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 03/12/2008 10:44

Well said all you 'pram huns' as the term was

I totally agree with all of you and I can vouch for the lot of you on the profit thing as I see it when I am on the pushchair thread

Ooh I wish I could set up a pram business then I wouldnt have to pay for them but I could play with them

yummum24 · 03/12/2008 11:37

I just have to say after reading this what aload of judgemental women some of you are, some of these pram huns as you say might very well judge you pushing a few month old baby in a scratched dirty minging bone shaker of a buggy that looks as though it is fit for the bin! a pram can sometimes reflect a person and if they push their slumped baby round in a minging wreck then some people might judge them back.. will people think oh they are careful with their money or OMG if thet is what she puts her baby in! you don't have to spend loads and you can easily sell on again if you have had a try or fancy something else or find something else to suit your needs.

Yes i have tried loads of prams and have a few on the go at the moment and don't give a toss what small minded folk think, the people who matter don't mind. oh and dare i say it 2 bugaboos (cameleon & bee) but i'm fortunate i can afford it. When i am done i will sell on and get alot of the money back but again that is my business!

I personally wouldn't touch a umbrella buggy or travel system with a bargepole as if find they don't suit my needs and are generally crap but some people love or need them. I have not had one with 4 kids so why the are deemed essential i have no idea!

All i seeon here is alot of pram envy and jealous rantings about people who can afford to try a few different ones out rather than settling on the rank buggy they have had for years just to prove a point!

now i expect to hear the rantings to continue as that is what churns some of you along i know..... so don't waste your time and get a life! nuff said....

breadandroses · 03/12/2008 12:04

I think yummum24 kind of sums up the pram hun mentality. It's kinda scary...

lillychristmaspuddingandpie · 03/12/2008 12:14

FGS!!!!!

nicolamumof3 · 03/12/2008 12:14

But why may I ask? what does it matter what any of us do as long as it doesn't affect our families and we can afford it who cares?

Wizzcarol · 03/12/2008 12:15

Good post Yumm.

What is the point of slagging people off about how many prams they have, so what? I have 4 and only 1 child but nearly all of them are minging. I couldn't give a bugger how many other people have. I have so many because I've been given some, bought one inadvisedly, needed another for the car seat attachment blah blah. Who cares? Obviously Chequers by the sound of it.
