I am sick of the reform rhetoric spreading into every little thing that happens

In my town, three things have happened in the last week:

1. a border force boat was spotted refuelling in the harbour
2. a coach was seen at Sainsbury’s petrol station
3. some Asian men were seen at a local hotel

Now each of these things have innocent explanations:

1. the boat was quite literally just refuelling
2. it was a school coach at a petrol station
3. theyre a Bollywood film crew filming at a local beach. Said local beach is closed and they’re filming overnight, so needed somewhere to stay.

But of course, the racist reform nuts have decided that the border force is “shipping” migrants straight to us and bussing them in (it’s either one or the other surely? They’re either delivering them by boat or coach 🙄) and people are now making threats against the general manager of the hotel where the film crew have been staying. Apparently people have been going into the hotel and questioning the manager about the people staying there and what they’re doing there.

im sick of it. Never mind the fact that it would be impossible for the small boats to get across the channel to us, these are all innocent things. But the reform rhetoric has spread to the point that people who aren’t white can’t even stay in a hotel without people getting angry and threatening violence. It’s disgusting.

loads of comments about ‘bet it’s the usual suspects’, racist images and ‘what are the police covering up’ oh and one random blaming ‘Liebor’

It's horrible and it's racism at it's worst.

Yes a woman was murdered (absolutely tragic) near me. In a sleepy little posh town, the local police had very little real world experience in manhunts etc. so they call in anti terror police from the nearest big city.

Facebook went mental. Horrible comment after horrible comment about it being “the usual suspects” and asking when he’d arrived. As soon as the name of the guy was released, they all started saying the left were relieved it wasn’t a migrant?! It was disgusting.

I find it really concerning the direction this Country seems to be heading. I have never before witnessed so much overt racism before, in my life. I find it worrying.

It's one track minds stuck on hating immigrants because they have miserable lives and need someone to blame. Every single issue is because of "illegals" and small boats. 🙃🙃🙃

But they're too thick to realise the the Reform lot are just stoking hate to line their own pockets and the fucks in charge don't give a shiny shit about Joe Bloggs.

I have had to stop reading my local news on Facebook it is horrendous, we are not near the sea so no they are coming off the boats, but anything concerning an attack or death a hotel etc etc and the knuckle daggers are there in the comments! The other day it was 30 years of Nelson Mandela visiting Glasgow, the comments were eye watering! One woman in particular was awful had "be kind" on her profile ! 🙄

You aren't wrong. I've just been reading about the man who jumped into a tiger enclosure and was killed. Several comments asking could the tiger be used to patrol the beaches. It seems to have become socially acceptable to be a racist arsehole now. They don't even try to hide it.

The poor lady who manages the hotel commented on Facebook to say it was a film crew. She’s getting horribly abusive men in the replies basically saying that if any migrants are in the area they’ll blame her for accepting them! It’s disgusting.

ChatGPT noted that the beneficiaries of generating alarm over foreign offenders are mainly the non foreign offenders who are more likely to go undetected as a result of everyone looking the wrong way.

Something to bear in mind next time you read these posts and the flood of comments underneath.

2 things can be true at one. Illegal immigration is a huge safety risk and Reform are wankers.

We should know who’s coming here and why, but Reform aren't the answer. If sensible politicians sorted all this, then Reform would cease to be. 🙄

You are not wrong. I think there’s been too much pandering to and legitimising of their arguments, and it’s allowed racists to get louder and more brazen. I hope that’s going to stop now and that mainstream politicians are finally ready to starve their talking points of oxygen, and to call them out for what they are.

I’ve wondered the same thing myself. There’s always been a degree of racism but people felt ashamed enough to keep it to themselves. I think the combination of the rise of Reform/Restore and social media have led to where we are now.

Don’t know if you’d be interested in hearing this, but where I am (in the US) the UK is fast gaining a reputation not for being “taken over by islamists” as Trump and musk et al would have us believe, but for narrow-minded racist Tommy Robinson types who the govt can’t keep under control. Farage is seen as a joke and people (those who know and care enough to ask, ofc) can’t understand why he’s so popular because he’s such an open bigot. I know, rich coming from here, but don’t forget half of the country was rabidly against trump at the last election and a sizeable majority are shaping up to be against him and all this nonsense at the midterms next month! Hopefully America will get rid of Trump and all his Temu Trump followers in the UK will go the same way.

I think it’s more complicated than that. It’s social media, a lower standard of living, lower educational levels for white males, fewer entry level jobs available, widening wealth gap and so much more. Enoch Powell in the last century didn’t come out of nowhere (British Empire?) but circumstances and economic conditions have been ripe for this for a while. SM has hastened and amplified its arrival.
