I am sick of the reform rhetoric spreading into every little thing that happens

In my town, three things have happened in the last week:

  1. a border force boat was spotted refuelling in the harbour
  2. a coach was seen at Sainsbury’s petrol station
  3. some Asian men were seen at a local hotel

Now each of these things have innocent explanations:

  1. the boat was quite literally just refuelling
  2. it was a school coach at a petrol station
  3. theyre a Bollywood film crew filming at a local beach. Said local beach is closed and they’re filming overnight, so needed somewhere to stay.

But of course, the racist reform nuts have decided that the border force is “shipping” migrants straight to us and bussing them in (it’s either one or the other surely? They’re either delivering them by boat or coach 🙄) and people are now making threats against the general manager of the hotel where the film crew have been staying. Apparently people have been going into the hotel and questioning the manager about the people staying there and what they’re doing there.

im sick of it. Never mind the fact that it would be impossible for the small boats to get across the channel to us, these are all innocent things. But the reform rhetoric has spread to the point that people who aren’t white can’t even stay in a hotel without people getting angry and threatening violence. It’s disgusting.

Great, it sounds like that’s worked out well already. If a sizeable number feel the same in the general population then match dispersal accommodation to the areas where people are for it.

All the castigating and you can’t object will dissipate. Those who are keen to support can.

Yeah, it's worked out fine. None of my neighbours seem to be racist, thankfully.

So replicate that, put the accommodation in keen areas. Everyone is happier.

DuncinToffee · Yesterday 22:28

What are keen areas? Those who don't vote Reform?

Dullmary · Yesterday 22:30

You know there have always been HMO’s, right? What about halfway houses for recently released prisoners? They’ve always existed. I used to live over the road from one years ago. Actual convicted criminals lived there. Nobody protested.

Quit with the excuses, it’s just racism.

They're radicalised. Every waking thought, every little thing is "boats" and "migrants."
Doesn't matter the subject matter, they have to shoehorn it in somehow.
Not sure what can be done about it really, it's a massive problem.

Yep

It's like that on our local FB. Sickening. There was a bomb scare last week and it was wall to wall thickos saying it must be Starmer's doctors and lawyers, boat people, not local people, you know who it'll be, blah blah blah.

All silent now it's been made public that a local man (from a local family with a local name 😵‍💫) has been charged...

I don't need to offer up my area. There are asylum seekers here already.

Even if there weren't, the idea that a one person can offer up an area on behalf of everyone else is beyond ridiculous.
Almost as stupid as thinking its 'a good idea' that asylum seekers should be housed in areas that have a Green or Labour MP, which means nothing more than 20 odd percent of the population voted for that party.
It tells us nothing of the welcome asylum seekers would recieve from local people, or how well resourced the area is to accommodate them.
The 'good idea' was Reforms lame attempt to threaten people into voting for them, and plan to punish as they saw it, those who didn't.
Asylum seekers need to be housed in areas where they will objectively have the least negative impact on the existing population.

I agree, of course, but I don't think it was really intended as a serious suggestion.

I’m surprised at those against welcoming people given the posts towards those who object. Up to you though.

Its always the way. Every crime is an opportunity. Because until the perpetrator is made public they claim its 'one of them', keeping the flame alight. When it turns out not to be, they just move on to the next crime and repeat. So we are fed a steady diet of crime being linked to immigration. The truth of the crimes doesn't matter, because there's always another one to speculate about, keeping the idea alive.

‘They’ etc. I don’t mind. It’s interesting to see who says yes or no way.

It's Reform rhetoric, they have launched a 'vote Green, Get Illegals' website.

Anyone repeating it, is repeating Reform rhetoric

I notice you comment a lot on threads about Reform and immigration @EasternStandard but I've never really seen you contribute much of substance on the subject.

I was pleased to see your esteemed leader condemning Reform recently. Do you agree with her that Reform risks taking the country backwards?

EasternStandard · Yesterday 23:33

Unrelated to the party some overly focus on. I’m not sure why people get angry at others objecting but then would say no too. I guess it’s like Piddington, they were a yes up to a point.

It's horrible and it's racism at it's worst.

Against which race?

Upupandaway10 · Yesterday 23:38

They’re a Bollywood filming crew? Does that happen often where you live?

I’ve noticed you post like the first para, probably not the best if you want to engage. I’m sure others will though. Enjoy.
