I am sick of the reform rhetoric spreading into every little thing that happens

In my town, three things have happened in the last week:

  1. a border force boat was spotted refuelling in the harbour
  2. a coach was seen at Sainsbury’s petrol station
  3. some Asian men were seen at a local hotel

Now each of these things have innocent explanations:

  1. the boat was quite literally just refuelling
  2. it was a school coach at a petrol station
  3. theyre a Bollywood film crew filming at a local beach. Said local beach is closed and they’re filming overnight, so needed somewhere to stay.

But of course, the racist reform nuts have decided that the border force is “shipping” migrants straight to us and bussing them in (it’s either one or the other surely? They’re either delivering them by boat or coach 🙄) and people are now making threats against the general manager of the hotel where the film crew have been staying. Apparently people have been going into the hotel and questioning the manager about the people staying there and what they’re doing there.

im sick of it. Never mind the fact that it would be impossible for the small boats to get across the channel to us, these are all innocent things. But the reform rhetoric has spread to the point that people who aren’t white can’t even stay in a hotel without people getting angry and threatening violence. It’s disgusting.

I just read a news article about a migrant ship sinking off Djibouti, with over 100 deaths. 90% or more of the comments were flippant and seeing it as a good thing. Laughing reactions all over the place. Horrific. No sense of humanity or compassion. Overt racism is now openly acceptable again.

It;s shocking isn't it, people celebrating the drowning of children who were amongst the passengers.

In Portsmouth, there were children chanting 'let them drown'

And a youth cricket team got confronted at their hotel.

I assume you don't have young girls being targetted. Your view would be different if you lived close to undocumented men with teenage daughters.

Nonsense.

My dd volunteers with many of these "undocumented men". They have never treated her with anything but respect and courtesy.

Yes, there have been some migrant men who have committed crimes against women and girls. Just as there are some British men who commit such crimes. It is fundamentally racist to suggest that all asylum seekers present a risk.

And me.

Every now and again, I get so sick of it that I donate another tenner to Refugee Action. And all my racist ILS are getting RNLI Christmas cards this year.

My daughters have been harrassed in our provincial little town. By white British men. They experienced far less harrassment in their very multicultural multi-ethnic university towns.

Yup. The only people who have ever harassed me have been white British men.

No, Mrs B is speaking from personal experience. Stereotyping an entire ethnic group based on the actions of a few is absolutely racist. If that's uncomfortable for you to hear, it should be.

loulouljh · Today 19:42

I am not stereotyping a whole ethnic group. However there are major major issues with undocumented men, from an ethnic group, coming here. That is not racist. It is a fact. I repeat, if you had teenage daughters and you were exposed to this your views would be different. That is our personal experience.

She listens to her daughter who might be a rather more reliable source.

"an ethnic group" - which ethnic group?

They are not undocumented once they are in the asylum system.

Ofcourse a few will be bad ones, the majority are not.

Although the Portsmouth protest at the beginning of September was likely inflamed further by the rape of a 14-year-old boy in an alleyway in Portsmouth during the summer holidays. An Iraqi national of no fixed abode was arrested and charged with the crime the day before the protest;

I wish I could vote that you’re not unreasonable more than once. The conspiracy theories and racism running through this country now make it unrecognisable. These people complain about losing their culture while simultaneously destroying it.

Because our government isn't doing anything about the boats.

Burnham doesn't care because he doesn't have to live next to an HMO.

Look up the recent thread on here about as poor woman whose street is full of HMOs and tell me what she should do?

The agitator of the Portsmouth 'protests' is of no fixed abode and has a previous conviction of attempted kidnap

BIossomtoes · Today 19:56

Doing nothing about boats? Why has the number of people arriving on them gone down by 40% in the last year? Magic?

I honestly think bots are all over FB. I keep off it as a rule because it's so toxic although it's quite 'fun' to play the racist countdown game. Pick any local news item, such as a local pub closing down/reopening, and count how many posts it takes to get to the one hinting at it being reopened as housing for immigrants. Click through to see who's posting and find a blurry photo of a person with no friends and two random posts of screenshoted memes. Scary.

So would you think she should do and what would you do in her situation?

On her last post she said she was thinking of leaving the country.

Should she have to leave?
