Well, this is absolutely sickening and terrifying. Those poor women and poor women and girls in the UK who will no doubt end up suffering too. Women's rights and safety seems to be the last thing that matters these days.

Also applies to young men - I work with separated children - I’d say 80% of them experience sexual assault and criminal exploitation on their journey- male and female.

It could have happened anywhere on their journey from their native country and could just as likely have been natives of the country they were passing through as it was to have been a fellow traveller.

@LostFuse is correct - many are also victims of modern slavery having been held on their journey to pay off debt by working - traffickers are citizens of countries like Egypt, Turkey, Italy and France

The assault happens en route and perpetrated primarily by people smugglers etc not the actual migrants. These people are totally ignorant (as in naive and unaware) of what their journey entails.

Why don't you educate yourself by reading something worthwhile instead of trotting out the same old shit.

Very deliberately gives the impression that the rapists are on the boats with them and washing up on British shores. In reality the rape and abuse has most likely occurred in other countries along their route probably by the criminals trafficking and exploiting them way before they get on the boat.

@ghostyslovesheets They are often one and the same. There are some good Podcasts on BBC sounds that helped me gain some understanding the immense complexity of the situation. Many of the traffickers are also being trafficked, many of the trafficked me do assault women. It is not a simple case of 'good migrants' and 'bad smugglers'

I understand but logically then not all asylum seekers are bad people and many have been criminally exploited- which is why I support their right to seek asylum

it is a complex situation where victims can be perpetrators. I have worked with child refugees who admit to raping and sexually abusing women both as child soldiers, on behalf of gangs to escape punishment themselves and because they come from countries where sexual assault and rape of unaccompanied women is neither illegal nor unusual. These issues need widely discussing. Constantly screaming "racist" and blaming a faceless group of evil "traffickers" has allowed this situation to continue for so long which is horrific for trafficked people, but also brings dangerous men into the UK with no appropriate checks.

I think those laws are completely outdated, and now actively harming the country, it's finances and the safety of it's citizens.

I don’t think anyone can seriously argue the current system is affording refuge to those who most need it. We need to accept it’s a criminal racket at this point and needs wholesale reform.
Then in my ideal world the resources we have to support desperate people can be focussed on fetching people (including women and children!) from refugee camps and properly supporting and integrating them.
At the moment it’s the self selected men trafficked by criminal gangs and holding us to ransom via outdated laws and sheer pressure of numbers overwhelming our capacity to deal with them properly.

Asylum seekers who are under 18 always require being housed separately to adult asylum seekers because among the adult asylum seekers are sexual predators and criminals.

These are the people we are bringing into our country. Once granted asylum they will be free to prey on other people.

Boats have arrived with women dead, boats have had women raped on them by other refugees. The idea that it’s just traffickers killing and raping women is bullshit.
