How long do you take to get up and out to work in the morning?

I set my alarm at 6.40am to leave at 7.40. The time it takes me to actually get ready, ie shower, make up, breakfast, dressed etc is about 35 mins but as I work in a school and so can't use the loo unless it's at break or lunchtime, I like to have the extra time in case I need a poo after breakfast! Kids have left home so don't have anyone else to worry about.

Just musing if that's quick, slow or about average.

If I’m not getting washing my hair it takes about 45-60 mins to get myself and two kids (2 and 4) ready to go. That doesn’t include eating breakfast but does include a snack for the kids and making my breakfast to take with me.

Alarm goes off at 5.50 and I snooze it until 6.10 when I get up and have a quick shower. I get back into bed and DH brings me fresh coffee and my overnight oats. I properly get out of bed at 6.50, having moisturised and used my LED facial sculpt tool. Then it’s dry and style hair, Do make up etc, Leave house at 7.30 and at my desk ready to start work at 8.

Edit to add that DH does all DC related activities every morning so I just concentrate on getting myself ready for the day. I cook most dinners so my busy family time is in the evening which suits me/us

30 mins. Always have a shower. Teeth.
Get dressed. Mascara.
Throw some stuff in my bag for lunch.
I struggle to get up early. Have to leave at 6.30 😵‍💫

PorkPieForStarters · Yesterday 20:15

About an hour: 30 mins doomscrolling (it's going to happen anyway so I've learnt to factor it in) and 30 mins showering, make up, hair, dressed. An extra 15 mins if I need to wash and dry my hair. I tend to have breakfast mid-morning at my desk.

I can waste fill whatever time I have and then some, so it's better not to give myself too much in the morning - only took four decades to figure that out!

I agree some jobs wont let you eat at desks! I assume they will have a morning break where they can eat perhaps. I do eat mine at my desk, but not until 10am. I am just never hungry first thing in the morning

In many of the jobs I listed I think breaks are a theoretical thing rather than something that actually happens. I was a teacher and would never have relied on being able to eat at break - children to deal with, break duty, a colleague wanting a ‘quick word’. I suspect nurses and doctors have it worse. My friend is a midwife and frequently works a 12 hour shift with no proper break.

putitonthewrongway · Yesterday 20:32

If i was on my own i could be around 50 mins. But on my own with two kids (2 and 6) it takes 2 hours 20 mins (ridiculous I know)! To be fair i could shave off 20-30 mins but I need lots of time to wake up in the morning with my coffee and a scroll on Mumsnet. I also wash and dry my hair most days as it’s fine and flat!

Whynottryagain · Yesterday 21:08

Not a mornings person.

If I'm just getting myself ready I can easily shower, dress, breakfast and leave in 30 mins. I've done it in 15 mins before.

I'm not getting up any earlier than I have to.

On a school day dc and I commonly get get ready in 45 mins. Extra time for faffing and making lunchbox.

You are absolutely right. My husband is a plumber and he does not get breaks. He eats convenient snacks whilst driving to his next job basically

Alarm at 6.10, out at 7.45, so around an hour and a half. But I have kids.
I have to tidy the kitchen, sort washing, make packed lunches, make breakfasts, shower, dress etc etc. It is a very busy 90 mins.

I did think it was essential to my answer, sorry if it offended.

Don’t apologise. It made me laugh 😆

6am alarm, we leave at 7-7.15am
But I then drop off and come back home to sort myself out.

If it's my working morning, my alarm goes off at 5am to leave at 6.30am as I am not a morning person and it takes me ages to get going/have coffee and breakfast, shower, uniform on, lunch ready etc.

Mostly I work late shifts so don't leave for work until after lunch. The downside to that is that I also don't see my family until the following morning (ex-DH deals with our child after work, child is teen and old enough to get home from school independently to Dads and be alone for a couple of hours til Dad is home.

When my youngest was a baby, i told now-ex he needed to help get the others ready for school and nursery before he left for work (I'd be up in the night breastfeeding too)..well he didn't. Hence hes now my ex. I was a married single mother.
It's funnier now we are apart as he has no choice but to parent due to my working hours.

I mean, I get up at 7am, drop last child off at 8:45 and am back home to start work at 9. But if it was just me, very comfortably could be out the door in an hour, could do it in 30 minutes if I really needed to. I’m not the biggest obstacle to getting myself out the door.

RumJerrySailorRum · Yesterday 21:30

I start work at 3am
Set my alarm for 1.45am.
I don't eat or drink anything.
Full shower and hair wash every day.
5 min drive to work.
BUT I work in an airport and have to clear security first AND I consider myself late if I've not started by 2.45am.

ProfessorGarlick · Yesterday 21:36

My kids are grown up so it's just getting myself ready. I can do it in 15mins but normally it's 20mins. Don't wear make-up, hair is short and curly so doesn't need anything doing. Don't eat breakfast. I shower the night before, so only need to get up, brush teeth, get dressed, feed cats and then am out the door. I wake up naturally about an hour before my alarm goes off so I'm already awake and have had time to wake up properly before I actually have to get out of bed.

SallyAnnDrivesACar · Yesterday 21:46

10-15 minutes. No coffee, no shower, no spend some time to myself. Teeth, toilet, get dressed and stick hair up.

Echlefecker · Yesterday 21:59

Summerbay23 · Yesterday 22:06

30-40 minutes but I take coffee with me and eat breakfast later in the morning at work.

amincharge · Yesterday 22:13

I get up at 5.15 ,shower, coffee ,chat to the dog ,quick cigarette.Leave at 6.30 ,I have a long drive to work…12 hours later I leave work about 8.30 …home 9.30pm !! Exhausted then the next day 🤦‍♀️

gullgal · Yesterday 22:13

An hour to an hour and a half. I can do it in an hour, or even less if very urgent, but I like time to process the day and get up to speed.

Barney16 · Yesterday 22:35

Two hours. Most of which is spent wandering about moaning quietly or muttering I hate mornings, I hate work. I have to have had breakfast, many cups of coffee, read the news, my emails and checked my bank account before I even think about getting ready. Oh and I usually like to have a bath. So that takes some time. I really think I would be better suited to an evening job 🙂

BashfulClam · Yesterday 23:02

45 minutes, up, shower, dry hair, dress,do enough make up to ensure I don’t scare small children, run a hot brush through my hair to shape it, take meds and away out the door. I only go in once a week and on wfh days I do mostly the same routine apart from make up and leaving the house.

pinkpony88 · Yesterday 23:03

20 minutes! But I shower at night and I have breakfast at work.

get up
wash
clean teeth
put clothes on (that I got out the night before)
brush hair
put mascara on
grab prepacked bag
out the door…

to be honest I’d do anything to have the maximum amount of sleep possible 🤣

EveryoneUsingOutro · Yesterday 23:10

I WFH and am self employed so could be in my jammies till lunchtime if I feel like it most days.
But if I have to meet someone, it takes me 40 mins to eat/drink coffee, shower dress makeup, organise what I need and go. Although I would prefer an hour so it’s not a mad rush.

DinoLil · Yesterday 23:12

Well, now I'm exhausted!
