How long do you take to get up and out to work in the morning?

I set my alarm at 6.40am to leave at 7.40. The time it takes me to actually get ready, ie shower, make up, breakfast, dressed etc is about 35 mins but as I work in a school and so can't use the loo unless it's at break or lunchtime, I like to have the extra time in case I need a poo after breakfast! Kids have left home so don't have anyone else to worry about.

Just musing if that's quick, slow or about average.

The number of people on here who don’t shower before going to work…🤢

I don't, standing under water first thing is anathema to me. It's not like I do anything in the night except sleep in clean pyjamas and clean bed.

I could shower and get dressed in 30 mins but nothing else.
I could have a breakfast in 30 mins but nothing else.
I could have a coffee and get my make up done, hair dry, in 30 mins but nothing else...

Shower 5 mins max. (If not washing hair) Teeth, skincare, 3-4 mins. Dressed 5 mins max.
Are you making and cooking a proper breakfast? Toast in toaster, coffee machine on, both take 2-3 mins. In that time if I was in a rush I’m checking my bag, putting shoes on if need be. Eat toast 2 mins. Swig espresso 10 seconds!
Makeup 5 mins max.
Can easily be done in the 40 mins I said for me earlier.

I do have long thick hair so washing and drying that is a different story but I just plan that for days I’m not needing to go to an appt first thing (I’m self employed).

You must be moving very slowly?

I know. I have a colleague who proudly tells me he showers at night to save time in the morning. Yes mate, I can tell.

Unless you’re overweight or have some sort of sweating/ body odour problem, most ‘normal’ people shouldn’t smell after a night sleeping! I’m a morning shower person 90% of the time but on the odd occasion I shower at night, I always put deodorant on when I get out of the shower, I put on clean PJ’s, sleep in a light duvet, with a fan on (I like to be cold in bed) and I definitely don’t smell the next morning.

In answer to the OP,

If it’s an in office day- Up at 6.30, shower, dress, do hair and make up by 7.15, do 45 mins of work on the laptop whilst drinking a cup of tea, 8am I get DD up, dressed and fed to be out the door for the nursery run by 8.40. Drop her off at 8.50 and then drive to the office. Usually in, parked and at my desk by 09.30.

WFH days- Up at 7.45, shower, dress etc by 8.15, DH will usually have already got DD up and given her her breakfast etc and he’ll usually drop her at nursery too so I then make a cup of tea and start work at 8.30.

Shoxfordian · 05/10/2026 09:56

About 20 minutes to shower and get dressed. Don't eat breakfast on days in office because its too early so just go straight out and get a coffee at the station

I get up at 5.15 ,shower, coffee ,chat to the dog ,quick cigarette.Leave at 6.30 ,I have a long drive to work…12 hours later I leave work about 8.30 …home 9.30pm !! Exhausted then the next day 🤦‍♀️

I hope there’s someone else looking after your dog for those 15 hours.

Sorry to mention it but I can’t see anyone but the OP mentioning you know what. How do those who get out of the house in 20-30 minutes get everything to work in that short time ?

You can say have a shit you know. No need to be so coy.

I still smell of soap and antiperspirant in the morning. Always been a night time shower person. You could say going to bed without a shower is grim if you’re a morning shower person

I need my shower in the morning to help warm and wake me up. As Dolly says, it helps the blood start pumping.

I just wouldn’t feel right going out with bed sweat on me.

And sweat.

Everyone has their own ways but I could not go to work without a proper shower. That’s also my way to wake up properly!

I shower first thing in the morning and do my hair there but i also shower in the evening after a day in the office. Shower twice a day every day…

daisyydaisyy · 05/10/2026 10:12

Half an hour. Get up, showered, dressed, don’t bother with hair and makeup.

Stressedoutmummyof3 · 05/10/2026 10:16

Just me, then I can be out of the door in 15 minutes but as I nearly always have my son with me it's closer to an hour and 15 minutes (he is an incredibly slow eater and most of that time is him eating breakfast).

thesugarbumfairy · 05/10/2026 10:25

I wake up any time between 5.30 and 7 but don't budge. I try very hard and always fail to go back to sleep. So then I quite often doomscroll or play games on my phone. Keep an ear out for child leaving for college. Usually get up at 7.30. If I need a shower I give myself 15 minutes. Otherwise I get out of bed, get dressed, brush my teeth, brush my hair, grab my laptop and leave. Takes 10 minutes.
If I'm working from home, I go downstairs and make myself coffee. Then I will potter about doing kitchen stuff/shoving a load of washing in/sorting existing washing/clearing up mess/do some sewing if I feel like it, until about 8.40 when I log in.
I'm only in the office once a week at the mo, so if I'm going there then I stop off and get myself a meal deal en-route because there's a Waitrose in the town where I work. That's my treat!

FallenNight · 05/10/2026 10:40

30 minutes for me. An hour and a half to get everyone else up, ready and out the house with all the things they need for the day.

Househunt2026 · 05/10/2026 10:42

I shower the night before, get up at 7am usually and take around 40 minutes to get ready. Then I usually open my laptop up to check a quick email and get stuck on it and end up leaving for work at about 1040 and get in around 11 🤣 but it’s flexible WFH in office so it’s alright. Would be nice to just get straight out of the house though.

fiorentina · 05/10/2026 10:52

I always have a shower and wash my hair etc in the evening and then a quick shower to freshen/wake up in the morning.

JapanesePotWeed · 05/10/2026 12:55

@EveryoneUsingOutro You must be moving very slowly?

Yes.
Having a 5 minute shower and rushing to get the breakfast down in 2 mins would make me stressed for the rest of the day.
I've been out the doors in 30mins when I slept in and had no choice! Thought about taking the whole day off work instead

Stressedoutmummyof3 · 05/10/2026 13:38

I normally shower in the morning but when I worked in childcare it was always shower in the evening because I often ended up with some sort of mess on me (whether from arts and crafts or not being quick enough with a tissue). Pointless to shower in the morning. Similar DH works outside in all weather so showers in the evening. It all depends what type of work you do.

You can shower both in the evening and in the morning you know..

Fair enough. I’d rather have more sleep than spend ages faffing around in the morning. I’m a night owl so if I have to get up early, I’d rather get on with things and get out asap, lessen the pain for me! Just different ways.

20 minutes! But I shower at night and I have breakfast at work.

get up
wash
clean teeth
put clothes on (that I got out the night before)
brush hair
put mascara on
grab prepacked bag
out the door…

to be honest I’d do anything to have the maximum amount of sleep possible 🤣

Yep this is me every word .. 15 minutes max
No mascara tho
Breakfast and first cuppa at work during working hours
