Crying at bake off

I cried when Molly dropped her cake. Just a few tears.

I'm a saddo aren't I?

Ah Bake Off.

Nigella ate so strangely. It looked like she didn’t want to let the forks touch her lips so did that thing where you take the food with your teeth? Did anyone else notice that? It was the most unnatural eating.

Danni - SO ANNOYING
Thrupple man - SO ANNOYING

Gary - lovely

I felt dreadful because I laughed and she was close to tears

There is something very funny about something splatting on the floor like that.

Apprently Danni goes by ‘they’ not ‘she’, if anyone cares

Well they all said 'she' the whole show including in the recorded voiceovers. I'm happy to say.

God I agree but wasn’t sure if this was part of her disability so didn’t feel it was right to comment…

Nigella sounds like she’s had a stroke as well, her speech is so slurred.

I think that slightly slow delivery is part of her “seductive” tv persona from years gone by. I was never very sure if it wasn’t just to cover up the Coke habit.

That said I quite liked her as a judge as a person who slso likes a smidge of salt in cakes.

The sole reason I’m not watching this series with my pre teen. I don’t want to explain thrupples. Ffs. How is that something that’s “mainstream” enough to be shown on a baking programme.

”Dawn is 37 and lives with her partner Chris. When she’s not working as an accountant, they both enjoy gardening and swinging.”

”Charlie is 59 and from Swindon. They live with their partner Bucky, a retired race horse.”

It’s so not ok for a show at 8pm to have “drag man lives in a thrupple with Percy and Pippin” (or whatever they’re called). How is that appropriate for a pre watershed programme. Who wants to explain THRUPPLES to their children?!

What?
I don’t give a shiny shite what people get ip
to with however many consenting adults that will have them. It is just beyond tedious when it is their whole personality and they think everyone is interested in hearing about it all the bloody time.

Lentilcakes · 23/09/2026 22:20

Dani was awful, sorry. I turned it in just after Molly dropped the cake so didn’t really know what happened.

Cartouche · 23/09/2026 22:28

Personally I really disliked Nigella as a judge - I for one certainly wouldn't enjoy a cake full of salt! It all seemed a bit try hard

Would have loved to have seen Nadia (previous winner) as a judge or Delia Smith

Contestant wise - seem like a bunch of people have been added just for tv rather than baking skills

But it’s always been about casting a variety of people who only have in common that they are good on tv. The twelve best bakers in the UK wouldn’t bear any resemblance to the cast of GBBO. The blog of Danny Bryden from Season 3 is very good on what it was like applying, being cast, and doing the show.

Their clip from home briefly mentioned two partners in the same way the rest of them mentioned one. We didn't hear about it any more than the others. Would you prefer for it to have been edited out?

Is it any different to describing what a couple is?

Flumposie3 · 23/09/2026 23:00

Felt sorry for Molly. I have never seen anyone eat cake the way Nigella did, very off putting.

😆. You can’t be serious?

Yes.

A thrupple is different to a couple. I don’t think it’s a concept most parents would like to introduce/explain to their children.

Cartouche · 23/09/2026 23:16

User76443998 · 23/09/2026 23:01

Yes

Surely it’s easier to explain to a pre-teen that a throuple (thrupple?) is like a couple but three people rather than two, than to explain lots of entirely ordinary when like ‘How exactly does money work?’ or how solar panels generate electricity?

SummaLuvin · 23/09/2026 23:17

Blinkett · 23/09/2026 13:25

How do they selected it? These aren’t the 12 best bakers in Britain. They Thry should be.

bake off has never been about finding the best baker. It’s about entertainment. And part of the appeal is that it’s aspirational. A few series ago I felt like the contestants edged on being semi-pro - casually whipping up a batch of macarons to decorate a signature bake for example - and I enjoyed it less as the skillset was much less relatable. They should obviously be very good, but not too many steps above the average watcher who is an enthusiastic home baker. Its appeal is that thousands of people around the country who make a cracking lemon drizzle are told “you should apply to bake off”.

my 12 year old can explain how solar panels work much better than I can 🤣

Just because I can explain something doesn’t mean that it’s age appropriate to do so. I don’t want my 12 year old to think about thrupples. Why would that be something a child should think about?

BlackBirdInFlight · Yesterday 06:35

Yes Nigella ate so strangely. Kind of like she was eating in secret in the kitchen in the middle of the night.

I explained to my primary children what a thrupple was. No biggie. They weren’t describing their sex life.

Why is it any worse than talking about a couple?

Anyone else loving Mo? He pulled off a brilliant show stopper and is just quietly unassuming, a bit embarrassed by the attention and shy and seemed genuinely baffled and chuffed to be star baker. I also really like Gary who seems very sweet indeed and just gets on with it without all the attention seeking drama. Those two are by far my faves.

I’d be very surprised if a 12 year old gave it more than a passing “Grownups are weird’ thought. I’m not sure why you think it’s something so inappropriate.

Littlegreywolfcub · Yesterday 07:16

I reckon Nikki and Tom are my favourites so far. But yes - also liked Mo.

I think Tom could win it.

Agree with someone up thread that there aren't many female bakers from the 40 to 60 age range

Medicalgrademusic · Yesterday 07:32

Yeah I don't see the big deal about explaining what a thrupple is.

I also loved Mo, he was the king of nonchalance. Danni tried to pull that off by saying she was bored but then looked daft by messing up all her bakes.

Ah yes, a polygamous relationship has the homophobes frothing.

No it’s just that the least interesting thing about a person is who they rub genitals with and how many they do it with. These things can become aspects of a persons personality and a production companies wet dream.
