I'm going on holiday with another person. Last time we went, they had the much nicer accommodation and mine was very basic. This time, check in is at different times and they're insisting I have the first accommodation we can check in to earlier as I have pets and they think I should settle the pets in, and they have the second. I mentioned the other day that we should look at them both and this time its my choice to choose which I prefer out of the two. We can always go in the first at check in and move my pets easily to the second. This is something she agreed to and is now going back on her word. AIBU to be pissed off at this? I really don't want to go away now.

She's insisting I'm having the first one though. If I challenge it, I get shot down and a huge argument will occur making me out to be the bad person. When I challenged it earlier, I got told I have to compromise. Where her compromise is, I'll never know.

Why do you go on holiday with her? That's the real question.

Annoyedbyhusband · Yesterday 10:14

Did you bring the pets last time? How many of them are there? Were they annoying? Why are you paying the same amount if there is that much difference to the accommodation? How long are you going for?

Withoutwings · Yesterday 10:14

You always get the worst room when you travel with a dog.

Exactly. Doesn't sound like an equal friendship. She sounds like a bully either that or you're a walkover.

FiveShelties · Yesterday 10:15

What are the pets? And why are they on holiday with you?

So, who organised and is the main travelling person on the booking?

Sillysausage76 · Yesterday 10:19

Why cant you just take the 2nd accommodation and arrive when its ready. I wouldn't be happy if you took the first and then swapped if 2nd was better

When you get there (first) ask which is the better room and take that one. It sounds like they know which is the better room and how they will be allocated if you are not proactive.

PurpleThistle7 · Yesterday 10:19

Yeah I don’t understand this at all. Who is paying for which hotel room and why on earth aren’t you just choosing whichever you want to pay for? And why are you bringing your pets if she doesn’t want you to? And why are you insisting on going on holiday together when clearly neither of you want to? This scenario is super confusing

user293948849167 · Yesterday 10:20

But why have you booked accommodation that you don’t know what it looks like? Why can’t you just book your own if you’re staying separately anyway?
Why do they have different check in times?
Really don’t understand.
If it’s causing this much stress just cancel and tell her you’ll book your own

CoastalCalm · Yesterday 10:20

Sounds like she has contacted the accommodation and told them which room to give you

Alwayswonderedwhy · Yesterday 10:22

If you've booked different accommodation surely you stay at the one you've paid for? It sounds like you don't even know what you're booked if you've got to wait until you get there to see it. Strange situation all round really.

This post is so weird

Come on @Chefpig you need to explain the logistics here. It isn’t making sense.

Absolutely.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 10:27

Why travel with her (and why bring pets)?

Sjuutd · Yesterday 10:28

What do you mean the first one?

Are they paying more money than you?

Most places have similar rooms for similar costs, so I’m confused as to how one accommodation is way nicer than the other.

And who booked it?
Surely you get the accommodation you booked and she gets the accommodation she booked - you can’t just chop and change it.

Never mind the rooms and the pets, she sounds awful.
Why are you going on holiday her? It sounds like a personality type so surely you must know this about her already.

rookiemere · Yesterday 10:31

Why are you going on holiday with someone you clearly hate ?
How do you know that there will be discrepancies in the room conditions this time? Usually when you book 2 hotel rooms they’re very similar.

But WHY is there a "first one"?

If you're this bloody obtuse with your friend I'm not surprised she's being awkward.

Well I agree with others that your whole post doesn't make any sense. But to answer the specific point here ... just don't argue with her. You say:
"You had first pick last time and we agreed that I would have first pick this time, so that's what's going to happen"
Don't get drawn into an argument, just keep repeating that sentence.

pensionerextrodinaire · Yesterday 10:40

It should be turn about.
But why are you booking holiday accommodation with big discrepancies in the standard?
if we go away with others we either each book our own room or if it’s sharing an Airbnb we make sure we get somewhere with bedrooms a similar standards

Chefpig · Yesterday 10:40

Heres a bit more information;

The other person is my mother.

Each year I treat her and her partner to a break, which I go along to too and we stay in different accommodation (static caravans).

I book her the best accommodation there is and I have the cheapest saver accommodation as that is what I could afford. This year money is tighter for me and I couldn't afford to pay, so she decided to book and booked us two saver caravans. Dogs come with us as one has health concern I keep an eye on and medicate when needed.

One of the caravans this time is earlier check in and is in the middle of a block of caravans.

The other is at the far end of the park, caravans spaced apart, looks peaceful, with direct access to beach and abundant with wildlife. It's a brilliant location and the other is very meh. Sardine city!

Since we booked shes been saying we can have a look at both caravans and then I can decide which I want to stay in. Now she's saying I will be having the first one as the dogs will be settled in there with all their belongings, belongings would take all of two minutes to shove in the car and take to other location if I preferred it. Both caravans are pet friendly.

I'm just pissed off because I was supposed to have the choice of the caravan.
