To think this is unfair? Holiday.

I'm going on holiday with another person. Last time we went, they had the much nicer accommodation and mine was very basic. This time, check in is at different times and they're insisting I have the first accommodation we can check in to earlier as I have pets and they think I should settle the pets in, and they have the second. I mentioned the other day that we should look at them both and this time its my choice to choose which I prefer out of the two. We can always go in the first at check in and move my pets easily to the second. This is something she agreed to and is now going back on her word. AIBU to be pissed off at this? I really don't want to go away now.

Yanbu. Just keep saying breezily "we will sort the rooms once we've seen whats what"

Smallpoxy · Yesterday 09:33

Tbh I think she is right. If you bring pets (why?) you settle them first whatever room is the nicest.

JeanSimmons · Yesterday 09:35

YABU for bringing pets on holiday and then expecting others to accommodate that.

Dovesono · Yesterday 09:35

I can't make sense of this.

Why are you not staying in the same accommodation? And if your accommodation is significantly different, surely you chose and paid for your own when booking?

RappelChoan · Yesterday 09:39

Are you both paying the same amount for the accommodation, travel, food etc?

What relationship are you to each other?

Who is driving?

Who made the effort to research and book?

What kind of accommodation is it - surely there can’t be a vast difference?

DarkForces · Yesterday 09:42

Surely the earlier check in is for the nicer room? That's the way I've always seen it done.

Megifer · Yesterday 09:43

It doesn't matter what colour the dogs are or any other irrelevant details. If it was agreed you get to pick this time then thats what should happen.

YANBU.

You sound like two children arguing over whose turn it is to sit in the front seat of the car.

How can you know that the room with the earlier check in time is the nicer one?

BillieWiper · Yesterday 09:49

You both look at both rooms and then presumably you get the nicer one as she had nicer one last time.

If you're paying the same then the rooms should be the same quality.

If you're paying for a dog friendly room then presumably you can't just switch to your friends room that isn't pet friendly?

It seems like a strange issue that I've never heard anyone having before. You surely know what your accomodation looks like to an extent before you book it. It's you choosing it and your friend is choosing their own? Either that or you're both in the same place so how can you squabble over one being better?

If you arrive first then potentially you should be able to see both and pick one anyway?

HambleTheDoll · Yesterday 09:51

Just say you’ll decide which one you want when you’ve seen both. Not too hard to say that is it?

cartagenagina · Yesterday 09:53

Are you talking about hotel rooms? Are they both pet friendly? Why do you have different check in times? Are you actually in different hotels? Or different places entirely?

Will you be travelling together or separately? How did you split the payment? If it’s different rooms then surely one of you booked and paid for room A and the other for room B?

Sorry but I’m a bit confused.

Ohdearnotthisagain · Yesterday 09:54

Just confirm it’s your turn to pick as s/he got the better room last time.

Or cancel if you think it’s going to be a problem.

What are your pets? Seems silly to settle them in to one accommodation and then move them if you decide you prefer the second? Defeats the objct of going to settle in!

Can you not just check in to both accommodations at the same time and you chose which you like then?

DarkForces · Yesterday 09:55

tilypu · Yesterday 09:48

How can you know that the room with the earlier check in time is the nicer one?

Because checking in early is usually reserved for the people who pay the most in the poshest rooms?

Floatlikeafeather2 · Yesterday 10:00

@Chefpig What sort of accommodation is it? I've never come across a house that has separate check-in times for individuals. If it's an hotel, surely you have been given a particular room so it's not up to either of you to grab the best.

tilypu · Yesterday 10:00

DarkForces · Yesterday 09:55

Maybe the better room has a later check in because the person in the nice room the night before paid more for a late check out?

Exactly - this is basically what I said. Makes no sense.

I once stayed at a different hotel to a friend for various reasons, but we each stayed in the one we had chosen, booked and paid for.

Even if it was the same hotel but one person had booked a suite and the other a single room you'd stay in the one you paid for.

If it was something like an Airbnb with a main room with en suite then there wouldn't be different check in times. So I really don't understand this scenario.

Coconutter24 · Yesterday 10:06

Have you both paid the same amount? Did you have to say on your booking that there is dogs or were both rooms booked in one transaction and dogs can go in either room?

YABU for bringing pets on holiday and then expecting others to accommodate that.

That isn't what OP is asking 🙄

Chilly80 · Yesterday 10:08

Where are you staying with vastly different accommodation?

Kisskiss · Yesterday 10:08

I have a dog and I love most furries , but I can see how some people might not want animals roaming around their clean room before they arrive and then have to sleep in it.
just plan to arrive when the rooms are both ready and you pick which you want? Why is one ready much earlier?

She's insisting I'm having the first one though. If I challenge it, I get shot down and a huge argument will occur making me out to be the bad person. When I challenged it earlier, I got told I have to compromise. Where her compromise is, I'll never know.

She probably doesnt want your pets in the room shes staying in. Seems fair enough. Either leave your pets at home or take the first accommodation.

RappelChoan · Yesterday 10:12

OP you need to communicate better. People are asking you questions which you have ignored and answered whatever suits you. My advice is stop moaning and be constructive instead of this passive aggressive “I get told” nonsense.
