AIBU to feel angry after my ex took the car back?

So 3 years ago my ex left me for somebody else, I have finally got to a place where I am happy, the kids are happy and all is going well.

when we were a couple we made an agreement that I would pay nursery fees and he would pay the finance on my car. Obviously since the split there have been constant threats to take the car and last night he turned up and demanded the keys. I gave them to him and instantly felt relieved that he didn’t have anything else on me. However school is quite a drive away since I moved area and I told him I wouldn’t be able to take them to school. His response was, not my problem, I can take them on my days so it’s nothing to do with him.

how can he be so evil?! At least warn me so I had time to get a car. I hate him!

So he’s going to drop them at the old school? But hasn’t yet? You are going to tell him aren’t you? It’s the kids who would be stressed, as he would leave them there and drive off and they’d be wtf?? And the school would be wtf!!

I can’t tell him he has blocked my number.

He rings me when it suits. He knows they have moved school as I told him which school etc and asked for his input on the decision and not heard anything since.

This whole situation sounds like a shit show, and I feel most sorry for the kids.

So he also knows that you don't need a car to get them there. So what was the post about you saying that he took the car and I needed it to take kids to school

ItsOnlyMee1 · 11/09/2026 10:05

Yes has kept the agreement for 3 years which is more than reasonable. Did you expect him to finace your car needs until the day you die?

He is paying maintenance. Go and source your own car!

EatingSky · 11/09/2026 10:05

So the actual situation is that you have moved your children to a school in walking distance, told your ex this - and at the end of the holidays he has taken possession of the car he paid for, which you used to need to get the children to school, but don’t any more need for that purpose?? So you wanted to keep his car just because you thought that would be fair - he disagreed, presumably because it’s not now something his children need and so figures you can sort your own transport? Again, maybe that’s not what you wanted but it’s hardly the crime of the century and maybe he even has a point…you have had use of his asset for 3 years. You no longer need the asset for school drop off or will have depreciated in value compared to what he paid, he now wants possession. Sounds like he is also paying support as calculated and also has his kids fairly often?? An affair is a horrible thing but he doesn’t sound that horrendous to me.

Actually no I applied over the school holidays as it was hard enough with a car to get there! Much easier now and they seem to have settled in ok. This isn’t my point, he doesn’t know this and what if I hadn’t done that?

OK I'm calling bullsh*t on this thread. Absolute troll thread.

You started this thread on 9th September so that was over a week into the school term. So your kids are already at this new school that is walking distance.

So you have basically lied to everyone looking for sympathy saying he took the car and your kids cannot get to school, when they didn't even need to get to that school as you've changed them to a local one.

I really cannot stand threads where people lie to try and get sympathy then change the story half way through.

Walkerss · 11/09/2026 10:20

The only shit show is this poor excuse of a father, he can’t even be bothered to wish them well in their new school as it isn’t his days and wants to reduce maintenance for another child he has now took on willingly when he barely sees his own children.

So what about " you can't get them to school as he's taken the car"

MsPrufrockk · 11/09/2026 10:23

Walkerss · 11/09/2026 09:22

Again, not my problem

It's not your problem if your kids get dropped off at the wrong school? Is that what you're saying?

Are you high on crack?

So why did you tell him you wouldn't be able to drop the kids at school without the car? Every time you post you contradict something you've previously said 😂

Walkerss · 11/09/2026 10:41

Oh I see the tables have turned just because I’m a mother but it’s ok for the dad to not give a shite

The tables have turned as you are outright lying

Your posts don't add up.

Answer the question as to why you said you wouldn't be able to get them to school as he took the car, when they are within walking distance to school

Walkerss · 11/09/2026 10:54

When it happened they was still at the other school so I couldn’t get them to school

Walkerss · 11/09/2026 11:01

My point is if I didn’t look into moving schools nothing would have changed.

im obviously both so instead of insulting me just don’t speak

@Walkerss he sounds like a nightmare. He’s out for what he can get and wants to “win” by the sounds of it. Some men (my ex being one of them) is exactly like this and goes back on agreements all the time when it suits him.

the original agreement was you paid the entire nursery bill which we all know is a lot, and he paid the car payment which would have in my experience been a lot smaller. And so you went ahead and paid the nursery on good faith, and then he takes the car.

I would be really cross too. He probably saw you doing really well without him and decided to take you down a peg or too.

I know it is hard OP but don’t get stuck by this. Move past it, get a new car for yourself, and right now think is there anything else that he might think is his, anything at all? Anything in the garage or an old coat of his? If so, get it together and return it to him - you will feel so much better.
