To think fat women look better in bikinis than one pieces

Before anyone jumps on me, of course people can wear what they want and feel most comfortable in...

But ive just returned from holiday and I did think whilst lying on the beach and round the pool how much better larger women look in bikini rather than one piece costumes. I think maybe it's just a confidence thing and those who exude confidence rather than self consciousness look better overall.

But regardless of that, I just think visually they actually look better...not that anyone owes attractiveness to others obviously

Why do assume they want to conceal themselves?

It could be they prefer the feel of a one piece.

Like how on earth can anyone even reach to get themselves covered in suncream properly everywhere anyway? When they’re wearing essentially just a few scraps of fabric and the rest of you is just there slowly cooking away? And then to perform those acrobatics to do it all over again every two hours, or whenever you get out of the sea, in full view of everyone else (who are clearly judging you every second, according to this thread)? Surely it can’t just be me who doesn’t have Mr Tickle arms or bones made out of play-doh and joints of well oiled meccano?

This is an absolutely unhinged response. Did you even read my opening post where I said obviously people can and should wear what they want.

As for other posters saying I'm obsessed with fat women and staring at them...please. unless you walk round with your eyes shut, we look at people all the time. And yes most of us have opinions on things. As someone who has been fat and thin and is interested in style and fashion, I do like looking at what people wear.

There are so many absolute nutters on this site op, only interested in expressing their daily dose of outrage at whatever they choose to see/hear.

I absolutely agree with you that essentially, body confidence - usually required for wearing a bikini - genuinely is more flattering, regardless of body shape or size.

I also uphold the opinion that tanned fat is waaay more attractive than thin, so despite being a bit saggy flabby and crepey myself, have been sunbathing in the tiniest of triangles this summer and have a great almost all over tan 😆 another perk of the bikini!

Who knows? Just makes me feel self conscious.

you don’t know the size of anyone reading this, nor do you know about their weight or their relationship with that or their own body.

women are reading this with their eyes. Which are on their faces. You said you wouldn’t have been thrilled, therefore you know it’s not nice.

I get the sensitivity round the word, I do, but the fact remains, it is simply a factual descriptor. I’ve also been fat and I don’t think it really should be seen as offensive unless used to insult people. If you’re fat you’re fat. Being upset by the use of the word doesn’t change it,

It only takes about 5 mins to cover yourself in sunscreen. I can do my own back but you can get someone else to do that bit for you if easier.

It's possible to be body confident – as in, knowing you're attractive and have a conventionally great figure – and not want to expose your body that much to strangers, especially at the expense of your skin health.

So, do you think its flattering if someone is body confident, but wearing a rash vest and swim shorts? Or is it just that you think women have to wear a bikini to look attractive?

It's very strange, this attitude that confidence = exposing as much skin as possible.

I think it’s sad women’s bodies are constantly under the microscope, even by fellow women. Fat men just wear swim shorts and nobody notices or cares unless they’re morbidly obese. Lots of older men have big pot bellies and wear shorts presumably without a second thought.

What was unhinged was you ignoring everything I said (seeing as you brought up attractiveness, which wasn't relevant as I'd already addressed it), and trying to sexualise underwear. Odd.

Maybe women (in this instance) should be more like them.

I think a lot of people notice fat men and don't particularly like the view, but there's a lot more acceptance of the idea that men are people who don't just exist to look ornamental, and so they aren't expected to prioritise attractiveness. Plus they're less likely to care.

But it’s mainly women who judge other women. Not men. If men don’t find you attractive, in the main they just move on. No interest.

many women judge other wonen, compete with them, it’s women who are the issue here, not men.

I don't think the fact that it's mostly women judging in this case changes my answer. Men and women expect women to be ornamental and prioritise attractiveness, while giving men a pass.

(Although tbf, I've observed many men make loud comments about women they think aren't attractive.)

Jesus no! I’m a fat woman…a size 20 and aged 62. Nobody…and I mean NOBODY…needs to see this body in anything other than a skirted one piece! And even that is questionable! 😖

women don’t expect other women to be ornamental either, but many many women judge and compete with other women, from their dress, to their hair, make up, bodies. You see it on here all the time. You see it in real life.

I’d also add, women have always been the peacocks of the human race, since time began, we even see it today in ancient tribes, where women adorn themselves it is not about societal expectations thays created this, it has always been so, and when women dress up and adorn themselves, it is primarily for themselves, to make them feel good and about other women, fitting in, competing, it is only ever about men when they are with a partner they wish to impress or looking to attract one.

I think it depends on all sorts of factors. Some women do look better in a bikini than a one piece. But it's not necessarily because they're svelte like beauties from the pages of a magazine. I'm short and curvy with big boobs and I always looked better in a bikini than a one piece. It was just my overall body shape. I haven't worn one in years because I got truly bad stretch marks during pregnancy and never felt comfortable showing them. But that's entirely my choice and how I feel.

Tbh in my part of the country the only seemingly body confident people fitting that description - ie knowing they're attractive and have a conventionally great figure – who wear body shorts and a rash vests are surfers and are so dressed for practical reasons?

I've not ever seen someone dressed like this without a surfboard under their arm 🤷‍♀️ i suppose they must exist but they're definitely the exception.

No, I’ve never ever seen anyone sitting by the pool or sunbathing on th4 beach in rash vest and shorts either, the only people I’ve seen do it are those doing water sports, snorkelling, kayaking etc, or small children.

I am a size 20 to 22 I got a new one piece from Lands end I looked like a barrel in it. Got a swim dress from bloom chic it was surprisingly flattering especially around the bust and tummy might accept a tankini if it was more of a dress type. Never really had a bikini always a bit chubby around the waist did have a shorts type one but that was 50 years ago.

Yep, that's me. I went swimming the other day in a one piece costume, slipped coming up the shingle and tore a 4" gash in the skin on my shin. This happens a lot as I have very fragile skin so now I have swim trousers and a rash vest. I do not have a great figure but I also don't need to remove huge chunks of skin. I always wear trousers and long sleeves for protection as well.

Sometimes it's just about continuing to do what you want but sensibly.
