DH’s digging ‘hobby’ is consuming our lives (Title edited by MNHQ at the request of the OP)

Both DH and I are recently retired. He has always had an interest in history but rarely had the time to explore this. He has become involved in a local company which specialise in archeological digs and has done some volunteering work for them.

This has progressed into some paid opportunities which at the time I thought was great, but in the last month he has spent at least 3 week days on jobs related to this.

So, far from us enjoying retired life together, it’s like he has gone back to work and isn’t a ‘hobby’ as it was previously. Would it be wrong of me to ask him to cut back?

Dogging or digging !? 🥴🥴🥴

Squirrelblanket · 20/08/2026 15:01

Unfortunate typo 😳

beaglescurleduplikebagels · 20/08/2026 15:01

Amazing title 😂

Bananacrepewithnuts · 20/08/2026 15:01

Do you want to check your title for a typo
😂

MarthaLovesLaughing · 20/08/2026 15:02

Attention seeking typo 🙄

This is hilarious and has made my day!
Thanks, OP!

liverpoolgal82 · 20/08/2026 15:02

Ummmmm!! Check your title op. But why not enjoy the time apart for your hobbies? I wouldn’t want to be with my husband every day when we retire.

MintChocCat · 20/08/2026 15:03

Omg this is such a hilarious typo!!! I genuinely thought your husband was into dogging and thought what a hobby 🤣🤣🤣🤣

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 20/08/2026 15:03

Well this thread has turned out to be a bit of a disappointment

OhForTheWeekend · 20/08/2026 15:03

epic 😂 - I feel for you @Hobbywiddow26

WildGarlicSoup · 20/08/2026 15:03

The ultimate in click-bait.

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/08/2026 15:03

I thought this was going to be a very different type of hobby.

BirdLandedonmyHead · 20/08/2026 15:03

I opened this thinking "please mean dog walking"

FOJN · 20/08/2026 15:03

That's an unfortunate typo. 🤣

OriginalSkang · 20/08/2026 15:03

I think it would be unreasonable, yes. Surely he should spend his retirement doing what he enjoys? What is the alternative, he stays at home with you and his opportunity to do what he loves passes him by?

OttersOnAPlane · 20/08/2026 15:03

I was all set to say LTB, but an archaeological dig and watching strangers shag in cars are not remotely comparable 😆

PinkHairbrushClub · 20/08/2026 15:04

Do you mean three days in a month? Or three days a week this month?

I’m reading it as 3 days across the month which does not sound unreasonable. Can’t you find something you enjoy for yourself too?

Hoppinggreen · 20/08/2026 15:04

Assuming he is not in fact actually Dogging then could you find a hobby yourself?
Its not reasonable to expect him to just hang around the house or do what you want to do and Archeology keeps him active, engaged and is earning him a bit of money
Go and find yourself a new interest (not Dogging)

SirIsaacNewtonsstringbag · 20/08/2026 15:04

Nah, you did that on purpose.

vodkaredbullgirl · 20/08/2026 15:04

😂 thanks OP

Holeymoley28 · 20/08/2026 15:04

I was about to say you must be the most chill wife ever that your husband has his own dogging hobby.

3 days in a month isn’t a lot on a hobby is it.
