to think that actually, no "everyone" does NOT unpack on holiday!

My sister and I have very different views on this!

She and I have gone away many times, always for a week.

She always spends a good hour or so unpacking, setting stuff out etc on arrival and then a couple of hours repacking before we leave. I just live out of my bag/case and dirty clothes folded into a plastic bag when I take them off to chuck back in the case at the end of the week. Repacking takes less than half an hour. The only item I unpack is my "going out" dress, of which I only take one.

She thinks I am abnormal as "everyone unpacks!" I think its probably more like a 50/50 split and when you only have a week, time is of the essence so I prefer to use the time to holiday (made up verb of the week) than fanny about putting my knickers and socks in a drawer!

I used to live out of my suitcase but now I always unpack. It's so much nicer!

It depends on what I'll be doing. If away for a week or longer in the same place, I unpack and hang up. If, on the other hand I'm going from place to place (which is more usual for me), I just rummage and find something to wear that day that's half presentable. If I manage to keep it clean and no tomato sauce or spilt drinks, I'll stay in it for the evening out too. I have it down to a fine art now, as everything I pack is uncrushable so doesn't need an iron (what's that anyway), and is light so can be rinsed out and dried overnight if needed.

I've realised that I just need not to look like I came through a hedge backwards, am clean, hair brushed, bit of lippy and I won't frighten the horses, then it's fine. No one, and I mean no one cares one bit about me and my attire.

I unpack, but if it was my own suitcase, as opposed to a suitcase shared with the family, I might not, I had my first baby at 20 so I haven't been on holiday without children since I was one!

I hang up the stuff that needs hanging and live out of the suitcase. I take a bag for dirty washing. Partly laziness, but also a hygiene thing and possibly nonsensical thought that having my clothes in hotel drawers might increase the risk of bringing bed begs home. I have an irrational fear.

I’m just back from three nights to see the total eclipse in Majorca with just an underseat bag… and yes, I unpacked my three dresses, bathers and sandals 😆

I do that too, have even gone for carrier bags before to split things up when that's what I had, but don't the cube things squeeze out the air or similar, so you can fit more in? My friend told me about them a while ago and they sounded quasi-magical.

An hour ? God no. We unpack unless it’s just for a night but we use those packing cubes so it’s soo quick n easy , 10/15 min tops

I unpack but it makes my life easier as I always over pack. Plus I like to hang stuff up, organise cosmetics etc. But I can totally understand if you are one of those people that pack light then living out of your suitcase would be easier. So I voted YANBU As you’re not being U at all, even though I do the opposite. I think a lot of hotels have really crap storage too so if you don’t need to unpack or only there for 1 or 2 nights then it’s probably easier not to unpack.

If I go away with a friend, I happily live out of a bag, if I go away with family then I am very much team unpacker as I tend to cram all our stuff into one bag.

I pack and unpack carefully everything on shelves takes a while . My adult children and adult nieces and nephews and their families all live out of their cases . Their homes are also a mess compared to mine. I do me they do them ! No problem . I also own an iron they don't, also our own choices . Does it drive me nuts yes , do they think I'm OCD also yes that's life heyho. My mother their grandmother didn't rate ironing or housework either so not a generation thing

I only unpack toiletries and cosmetics. My clothes stay in my case, with dirty clothes going into a separate bag to go straight in the wash.

I don't see the point in unpacking - I don't take anything on holiday that needs hanging and I've planned my holiday wardrobe so I know exactly what's in the case and what will go with what - it's not like at home where I might want to look around for inspiration.

The tops and bottoms that I wear in the evening. I air them off usually on hangers I pack. As most hotels have the hangers where the rings are threaded though the rail and unable to hang elsewhere.

Then I fold them and place in my case. As get 2-3 wears out of them

This has blown my mind. I had no idea anyone unpacked in a hotel

I unpack, my daughter doesn’t and it annoys me because her case is always open on the floor to trip over. It certainly doesn’t take me that long to pack and unpack though, 20 minutes tops !

People accusing me of making up how long it takes my sister....she is a champion faffer. She will start unpacking/packing and then decide to wear that outfit, so gets changed....but needs a shower first after travelling.....then carries on unpacking and decides her hair will dry wrong if she doesnt do it now.

You get the picture! So DD and I usually head out without her or she goes back before us, so no one misses out.

I've always found it really odd to have drawers. I do hang some stuff like coats up so I get the wardrobe

I would rather be rummaging in a suitcase than risk having my entire home and belongings fumigated thanks!

I couldn't vote: "YABU - I unpack!", or "YANBU - I live out of my case!" because though I do unpack, I don't think you're being unreasonable NOT to unpack. It's your holiday, your choice. No one else's business how you decide to 'holiday'....

In fact it often takes me a week or two to unpack once I get home...

A complete game changer. You can organise things as you choose and unzip things as you need them meaning you can always find exactly what you want and the suitcase is tidy.
on a recent holiday I had a wedding, a beach holiday and a city break. I could zip away all the wedding gear once used and have the city stuff zipped up and have the beach stuff open and in rotation while on the beach holiday.
on another holiday I had tops in one cube, skirts in another, dresses in another… you get the picture.

To each their own.
Typically I unpack if I'm staying longer than 48hrs.

But if someone wants to religiously unpack/stay-packed that's up to them.
