to think that actually, no "everyone" does NOT unpack on holiday!

My sister and I have very different views on this!

She and I have gone away many times, always for a week.

She always spends a good hour or so unpacking, setting stuff out etc on arrival and then a couple of hours repacking before we leave. I just live out of my bag/case and dirty clothes folded into a plastic bag when I take them off to chuck back in the case at the end of the week. Repacking takes less than half an hour. The only item I unpack is my "going out" dress, of which I only take one.

She thinks I am abnormal as "everyone unpacks!" I think its probably more like a 50/50 split and when you only have a week, time is of the essence so I prefer to use the time to holiday (made up verb of the week) than fanny about putting my knickers and socks in a drawer!

We have a dedicated backpack with the night before bits. Definitely couldn't be rooting through suitcase if it's just the hotel night before a trip!

I would say I am like you, but this year I found a 3rd way. I have now been converted to packing cubes.

I do usually get frustrated with how messy my case gets after a few days, especially when I find myself rooting through to find something small but essential.

With packing cubes, everything was grouped and enclosed. I did take them out of the case and put them on the shelves in the wardrobe but this was a 30 second job. I knew exactly where to look for what I needed - and repacking was still as quick as I just needed to throw half a dozen 'packs' back in the case.

I wouldn’t unpack on a road trip but would if only staying in one hotel. I also use packing cubes so things like underwear stay in the cube and get put in a drawer. Most clothes get hung up - takes 5 minutes max! Toiletries go on a foldable hanging bag to hook on the bathroom door and dirty clothes get sorted into 2 empty packing cubes so can be chucked straight into the washing machine when we get home. It’s a bonus if there’re laundry facilities available as I then wash everything and take it home clean. 😂😂
DH would live out of his suitcase if he were alone, but as I can’t relax when the hotel room is messy he does unpack like me.

I wouldn't mix dirty with clean clothes,dirty ones go in a bag separately.

I think it comes down to whether you are able to deal with chaos or not. I am quite proud of the fact that I'm totally unbothered (made up word maybe) by chaos and can still think clearly when everything isn't orderly.
I don't unpack just hang up the odd dress so it doesn't look like a fish supper when I want to wear it. Job done😀

I really don't see getting a few items out of a case as 'chaos'.
Maybe that's precisely my issue though

I unpack clothes that will wrinkle other than that I just keep swimwear, towels and undies in one suitcase. Anything dirty goes into the other suitcases so there is little to pack at the end of the holiday 😃 I pack enough so clothes aren’t worn twice so this works well for us. I wash everything when I get home even if it’s not worn so I’m not worried about mixing the clean and dirty when we start using the “drawer suitcase”

When we used to go camping for 2 weeks, we'd take a clothes rail, put it together and hang our clothes up for the fortnight. We'd also have one of those IKEA things that hang on a rail so you can put folded clothes in it.

I always unpack, it doesn't take that long though and I do for me DP and DD. I feel it just sets me up nicely for the holiday.**

I don't unpack. it's such a faff I can't be arsed with. I'm on HOLIDAY.

we take a couple of large shopping bags for dirty laundry.

Always unpack and then stash the bags away out of sight.... I want to enjoy the expensive room that I've booked, not have it looking tatty! If we're touring via several places, I probably wbother for one night, though.

In geberal I am a living out of the suitcase person. However, since I've started to travel with my personal item only or I share a luggage with my bf (ain't paying for 2) I occasionally unpack cause I don't want our stuff to mix. I've never traveled with anyone that unpacked their suitcase.

Unpack, but it takes five minutes, not an hour. What on earth is she fancying about with?

Suitcase open, then at the end of the day fold dirty underwear inside that day's dirty top and put it in. On the last day chuck in toiletry bag, medications etc and off you go.

Oh I love hotel laundry! Quick to put in a bag with a list, then it comes back beautifully ironed or folded the next day. It probably cheaper to buy new clothes, tbh, but it's such a treat, and also means you don't need to take as much stuff with you.

I unpack then use my empty suitcase as the dirty laundry basket.

I’ve always unpacked. It’s the first thing we all do when arriving at our accommodation. Makes the room tidier and I feel more relaxed because of it.

That would be my idea of hell and I would spend the holiday extremely stressed and unable to sleep.

If things aren't hung, they must crease. Unpscking takes me 5 to 10 minutes. Rifling through a jumbly case would take longer, surely.

The case(s) are for dirty clothes - obvs in laundry bags - one for lights, one for coloureds, two for darks.

Unpack for longer than 1 to 2 nights. But it doesn't take an hour to unpack! More like ten minutes.

I’m unpack and hang clothes up and make up and toiletries in the bathroom, even if just staying the night with a friend. My husband if staying a night or two leaves his stuff in the case, I often unpack for him or I’m tripping over the case and get irritated, he also slings his dirty clothes on top of it. It’s annoying.

on holiday though, he always unpacks, as do I.

I always unpack when we arrive somewhere. Even when backpacking and moving around a lot, I’d still unpack the stuff I’d need for that part of my trip.

I don’t “repack” though. I usually leave the suitcase open and put laundry in there as I go. Everything else gets shoved in when we leave.
