to think that actually, no "everyone" does NOT unpack on holiday!

My sister and I have very different views on this!

She and I have gone away many times, always for a week.

She always spends a good hour or so unpacking, setting stuff out etc on arrival and then a couple of hours repacking before we leave. I just live out of my bag/case and dirty clothes folded into a plastic bag when I take them off to chuck back in the case at the end of the week. Repacking takes less than half an hour. The only item I unpack is my "going out" dress, of which I only take one.

She thinks I am abnormal as "everyone unpacks!" I think its probably more like a 50/50 split and when you only have a week, time is of the essence so I prefer to use the time to holiday (made up verb of the week) than fanny about putting my knickers and socks in a drawer!

I unpack most of the time but if I’m honest it mainly because my DW is an unpacker. I’d probably unpack a lot less if it was just me. It depends on how long I’m there for though and how much space there is. It’s quite nice to unpack and then put your suitcase away

I have never not unpacked. Personally I think it’s really gross and unhygienic to have dirty clothes on top of clean ones, even if they are in a plastic bag (what happens if your knickers spill out the bag??) and I also think it’s really useful to see what you have actually got, as opposed to living like a toddler out of a spare clothes backpack.
I also pack “outfits” and a mix and match of capsule items (for example our last holiday; I took several pairs of shorts with T-shirts that could be mix and match, 4 dresses for the evenings and a selection of swimsuits, packed for each day with shorts & tshirt, a dress, a swim suit and 1 of 2 kaftans)
I also can’t stand suitcases cluttering up the space and need the room to relax, so I unpack and stow them under the bed/top of then wardrobe.

Yes. Length of the stay determines whether to unpack or not.

If I unpacked I would then lose some of my possessions every trip by leaving them in a drawer, or waste huge amounts of time checking and rechecking every drawer on departure. Easier to keep everything as contained as possible in the suitcase, bedside table, sink and kettle areas.

Packing cubes are brilliant.

Although if I was staying somewhere for a week I probably would unpack. Mostly. How on Earth does it take her an hour? The mind boggles.

On some of our recent holidays we have been moving on every 2 or 3 days so the packing cubes really come in to their own. Just lift out the ones required rather than unpacking the whole case.

Our most recent holiday (China) we were moving on every other day and, as we were traveling by train, we had packed fairly light so organisation was the key and packing cubes definitely helped with that.

I unpack. It doesn't take that long. I also don't need to spend much time repacking to leave. One reason I like to unpack is that I like to hang some items up to minimize creasing.

I have never liked living out of a suitcase.

I’ve done both. Depends on my mood. I’d say more than 50% of the time I don’t unpack

My son is back from Australia after 2 years just for a brief visit! His revamped room is a floordrobe !

Do you take a bra for every outfit?

The dirty clothes bag lives on the floor and only goes back in at the end of the stay.

I don't unpack very often and can instantly turn the room into a pig sty within a minute of opening the door.

I don't unpack, but I do pack to go home 😂. All dirty stuff goes in one case, sorted as whites, colours and blacks, ready for three washing loads when I get home. Clearly I'm mad.

I don’t unpack myself. However I go on holiday to relax and recharge my battery. If unpacking gets her into the zone and living out of a suitcase stresses her out let her be.

when I book into a hotel I like to walk around and check out the bar, pool and other amenities so I understand the layout of the building. Makes me feel more comfortable and I know others would find that irritating.

Oh I dont think that she should live out of her case, she would hate it. I think the issue is that she also hates that I dont unpack and I think it stresses her out just at the thought of it!

We always have seperate rooms but when she inevitably comes into my room she will say "Oh havent you put [item] away?! You will never find it when you want it!" and starts unpacking for me. Its a good natured disagreement between us!

My H unpacks first thing. Puts his things into drawers and hangs up stuff. I only put my toiletries in the bathroom. The rest stays in the case. I don’t understand it but leave him to it. He can’t settle until it’s done

I always unpack, even if I am only staying a night. It doesn't take me anything like an hour though, more like 10 mins.

What does annoy me (as on a recent stay at a Premier Inn) is hotels that don't have anywhere to put your stuff. I am talking drawers, shelves, a wardrobe? All I had was a hanging rail and nowhere to put my knickers. Not happy.

Btw I also fully unpack and put away on arrival home, even if it is after midnight (as it will be on Sunday when I get home after a week away). I can't sleep otherwise.

I do this too. I have pool outfits, day trip outfits and evening outfits.

lol my husband and I fundamentally disagree on unpacking on holiday.

I’m a “let’s dump the bags and hit the pool, we can unpack later” person, and he can’t relax knowing the cases are sitting unopened in our room 😂

I would unpack even for just one night too.

I know someone who unpacks and irons. Not me I’m afraid!

Never unpacked. Weirdly I don't trust hotel hygiene so always thing my suitcase is cleaner. Prob isn't tho but it's my dirt, not someone else's.

What on earth is there to unpack?! Toothbrush and clean knickers is all you need surely?!
