to think that actually, no "everyone" does NOT unpack on holiday!

My sister and I have very different views on this!

She and I have gone away many times, always for a week.

She always spends a good hour or so unpacking, setting stuff out etc on arrival and then a couple of hours repacking before we leave. I just live out of my bag/case and dirty clothes folded into a plastic bag when I take them off to chuck back in the case at the end of the week. Repacking takes less than half an hour. The only item I unpack is my "going out" dress, of which I only take one.

She thinks I am abnormal as "everyone unpacks!" I think its probably more like a 50/50 split and when you only have a week, time is of the essence so I prefer to use the time to holiday (made up verb of the week) than fanny about putting my knickers and socks in a drawer!

YABU - I unpack!
YANBU - I live out of my case!

I really hate living out of a suitcase so YABU.

Martymcfly24 · Yesterday 23:50

I have to unpack then put away the suitcases. I am a very very untidy person and the suitcase would be a big pile by the end of days two.

crackofdoom · Yesterday 23:50

Where's the option for strewing half the contents of your rucksack on the floor? 🙋‍♀️

Lisanne55 · Yesterday 23:51

I don't unpack. Like you, I leave everything in my suitcase and put dirty clothes in a plastic bag. If something needs hanging up, like a dress or coat, I'll put in in the wardrobe or on a hook, but nothing else.

LoveheartBear · Yesterday 23:52

🤫 I live out my suitcase too, OP 🤭 (unless space is limited, and I then unpack).

Pippin2017 · Yesterday 23:52

I unpack if I'm somewhere for more than a night otherwise the whole stay feels transient and a bit chaotic.

Ace56 · Yesterday 23:52

Another non-unpacker here. A week is fine to live out of a suitcase. I only hang up dresses and things that might crease.

TheJuryIsOut · Yesterday 23:53

I unpack but it takes me 10 minutes max, what the hell is she doing for an hour?!

Mumtotornadoes · Yesterday 23:53

Since having kids I unpack because I fold whole outfits together and it makes getting everyone ready alot easier. If it's just me I live out the suitcase and have a dirty clothes bag.

Itsthewoluff · Yesterday 23:54

I’m with you, op.

BambinaCucina · Yesterday 23:56

I guess we're half and half. We unpack the majority of things, but leave some lesser-used stuff in the cases, which are tucked out of the way.

It certainly doesn't take an hour to unpack though - and no time on the way back. As long as everything is in!

hugasaurus · Yesterday 23:56

I hate living out of a suitcase. First thing I do is unpack! Doesn’t take an hour though, and that includes the kids. More like 15-20 mins max. I really dislike digging around trying to find stuff in a suitcase and the way dirty stuff always ends up getting mixed in somehow.

OK, are you my sister?! Because...... well.

When I'm packing, I pack whole outfits together.

E g lay shorts on bed, add matching top, knickers and bra. Fold shorts over creating a little outfit burrito 😳.

I unpack all the bundles into a stack in the wardrobe, hang up my evening dresses and thats it.

My DH unpacks properly, takes him ages 😆.

Fuck knows, farting about with.....I dont know. It really bugs her to the point where she "helps" by unpacking for me.

So I take it out and put it back in my bag just to annoy her. I do utterly adore her, believe it or not! haha!

I’m traumatised after staying in a bed bug infested hotel . I guess it’ll be suitcase in bath and everything in zip locked bags next time if I can bring myself to stay in hotels again , but I’ll never ever unpack into a hotel wardrobe again.

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 23:59

She is a naturally tidy organised person. I very much am not, so I wonder if there is a link there!3

This is me

I love the unpack part of a holiday! I like setting up a new life for a week!

The repack is less fun, but only takes ten minutes because it's just putting stuff in the case, no thinking required.

TomBaileysFlyingGoggles · Today 00:02

I have been converted to packing cubes so I just lift them out. I hang my dresses/creasable items but everything else is in cube. Dirty clothes go into laundry cube

Winnie27101981 · Today 00:06

Nope! I don’t unpack! I will put my toiletries in the bathroom, beach towel on the balcony, flip flops by the door, phone charger by the bed etc but my clothing - nope, it stays in the case and my dirty washing goes in a washing bag and is squished in to the case at the end which I then just take out when I get back and straight in the washing machine!

Yes, this! I don’t unpack but nothing stays in my case for long either, inevitably one of the first things I want is right at the bottom of the case and I end up having to pull everything out whilst looking for it and end up living out of a jumbled mess on the floor.

Anyahyacinth · Today 00:06

I don't unpack to avoid bed bugs

Edited to say they are possible in any accommodation..five star the lot ..so i keep my suitcase closed to avoid.

This sounds like Dsis. She packs outfits, which I have never done. I "capsule" pack, so a selection of tops, bottoms, etc that all work together. It means I can pretty much grab any combination and it will work, and also means I take a far smaller case than she does.

Perhaps thats why it takes her so long to unpack/repack!
