to think that actually, no "everyone" does NOT unpack on holiday!

My sister and I have very different views on this!

She and I have gone away many times, always for a week.

She always spends a good hour or so unpacking, setting stuff out etc on arrival and then a couple of hours repacking before we leave. I just live out of my bag/case and dirty clothes folded into a plastic bag when I take them off to chuck back in the case at the end of the week. Repacking takes less than half an hour. The only item I unpack is my "going out" dress, of which I only take one.

She thinks I am abnormal as "everyone unpacks!" I think its probably more like a 50/50 split and when you only have a week, time is of the essence so I prefer to use the time to holiday (made up verb of the week) than fanny about putting my knickers and socks in a drawer!

YABU - I unpack!
YANBU - I live out of my case!

I don't care either way and I certainly wouldn't judge 😆 but yeah I usually unpack

I’m traumatised after staying in a bed bug infested hotel . I guess it’ll be suitcase in bath and everything in zip locked bags next time if I can bring myself to stay in hotels again , but I’ll never ever unpack into a hotel wardrobe again.

i live out of the case too for similar reasons. It feels a bit gross to me and I also don't want my clothes smelling of their wardrobes and drawers .

It is bad enough sleeping in the bed but I try not to overthink that one.

I always like to hang my clothes up can’t stand creases put knickers etc in drawers and it takes me literally minutes certainly not an hour !

Anononony · Today 03:06

We've not long arrived at our holiday lodge. I unpacked 3 people's stuff in less than 10 minutes, why on earth does it take any longer than that to put already folded clothes away!?

I unpack but it takes me 10 minutes max, what the hell is she doing for an hour?!

Exactly this! And 20 mins to repack!

How can either take so long?

Another non-unpacker here. A week is fine to live out of a suitcase. I only hang up dresses and things that might crease.

Folding things into squares and wrapping them in tissue paper?

SusanSHelit · Today 03:26

I unpack and then dirty stuff gets put in the suitcase as the week goes on. The only thing to finish packing on the last day is toiletries. Takes ten minutes and makes life a whole lot easier

AmnesiacsDream · Today 04:09

I unpack but, like others, it takes me only a few minutes (as does repacking at the end of the holiday). I don't think anyone is BU if they don't unpack (unless we're sharing a room and your case gets in the way or looks a state).

likeitshard · Today 04:13

A weekend away I live out the suitcase. A week plus I’ll unpack as I don’t want big suitcases strewn about.

Roselilly36 · Today 04:16

I usually use packing cubes and just put them in the drawers and unzip, dresses hung up and DH shirts.

ceramicfrog · Today 04:16

I used to unpack, but since discovering packing cubes I don’t - I just pull out a cube each day. It’s so much easier! Even dresses stay rolled up in them.

Zanatdy · Today 04:35

I always unpack as soon as I arrive, so my stuff isn’t totally creased.

Ordonot · Today 04:58

We don’t stay in the same place for longer than 3 nights - ever! So unpacking for a night or two would be daft. Packing cubes have been a lifesaver though. Love them!

madeinthe80z · Today 05:07

Never used to unpack but have to with kids because there’s no room for 4 open suitcases to be left around. And it makes life a lot easier whilst taking care of them on holiday.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · Today 05:10

Unpacker here if staying a while but have discovered packing cubes for multi centre holidays

This; fifteen mins max. I can’t do anything until I’ve unpacked.

NearlyNewNonny · Today 05:19

I unpack for a night in a Travellodge. I can't bear living out of a case, although it doesn't ever take two hours to repack as I sort dirty clothes as I go.

Timble · Today 05:40

I can’t believe so many people don’t unpack!! Though I’m a very messy person, if I lived out of the suitcase it would be all over the floor in a day or two when I couldn’t find the things I needed!! I love unpacking as it means I can find everything with ease! Doesn’t take an hour though, maybe 20 mins!

Agree. It’s a really quick job and I then repack our dirty things each night so by end of the holiday it’s usually not even 5 mins to be done.

WatchingTheStarsFromMyHammock · Today 05:53

It depends. If you are the same place for the whole holiday then yes, I unpack. I put dirty clothes in the suitcase as I go along so there isn't much packing at the end.
Multi stop destinations, I don't unpack and live out of the suitcase. But I use packing cubes so that everything is organised.

Ohdearnotthisagain · Today 05:58

For anything less than five days I hang up things that crease, otherwise no.

Over 5 days (ish) I empty the suitcase.

garlictwist · Today 05:58

I am with you. Never unpack. But then I am also a very light traveller - always hand luggage only. I just sort of strew my stuff on a window sill or something and grab what I need.

HappiestSleeping · Today 06:01

crackofdoom · Yesterday 23:50

Where's the option for strewing half the contents of your rucksack on the floor? 🙋‍♀️

It's perfectly acceptable to hang everything on the floordrobe 🤣

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · Today 06:02

I worry about cockroaches so I unpack and zip up my suitcase. I’ve lived out of my case before but the extra joy it gives me to access my stuff easily and see things easily out weighs the rummaging.

Palomiino · Today 06:04

I unpack the stuff that will need hanging up which would otherwise get creased….
