It’s a hen party one. Annoyed my DSis

Lau226 · Today 20:03

DSis is 7 years younger than me and I’ve agreed to go on her abroad hen weekend next month. Every detail has been planned by her MoH and there’s an in depth itinerary.

Last night, MoH put a message in the group to say for 2 of the events (a meal and a beach club) there will be consistent outfits required, one of these will be swimwear.

She is ordering the swimwear and put a poll in the group to ask people to record their size.

I take issue with this because 1. The swimwear in question is a thong bikini and 2. I find it embarrassing to share my size in front of the group (I am larger than them all, which is why I mentioned the age gap).

I privately messaged MoH to say I’ll bring my own swimwear which will also be white so it matches.

Dsis called me an hour later (she’s not in the group) - she said that I should just wear it for the photo at the start and then change straight out of it l, that she wants me to get involved and she’d be gutted if I’m not in any photos and not matching. I shared why I’m reluctant but she’s having none of it.

Am I being awkward here? I feel like it’s a lot to expect. Before anyone suggests it, I can’t cancel and I will be going on the hen, she’s my sister and it’s paid for.

Nope absolutely ridiculous. At absolute most everyone to wear a set colour in something of their choosing

SylvanMoon · Today 20:59

I think it sounds pretty yucky, especially since they're intentionally doing it for the social media photo op. I'd not protest now, and pay for the stupid bathing suit as if you're compliant, but as another PP suggested, bring your own and either wear their top with your bottom or you whole suit. They'll probably stick you in the back of the photo, but what are they going to do once you're there?

Deepstone · Today 21:00

I don’t think this is necessarily an age thing, I’m a lot more body confident now in my 40’s than I was when I was 30 - even though my 30 year old body was a lot less wobbly than my body is now.

But even so, a demand to wear a swimsuit I wasn’t comfortable in would be a hard no. And the photo bit just makes it worse. That photo is absolutely going to be shared.

Just do it for the photo and then change or get a sarong on. Mumsnet will tell you absolutly not and a thong is disgusting etc but real life will tell you to do it for the sake of a photo, push yourself out of your comfort zone and get yourself some good karma

Are you the MOH? I'm not saying a thong is disgusting (although I think it is naff) but I do think people should wear what they want to wear, especially if it's body revealing.

Bugger that, OP.

Emeraldforest · Today 21:02

I don't know anyone who would wear one of those things. Can't see the point of them at all!

W0tnow · Today 21:02

Hard no. Even just for the photo.

DeeLasVegas · Today 21:03

Definitely wouldn’t do it. If I’m not comfortable in an outfit, the last thing I would want is it photographed for posterity 🤢

JoshLymanSwagger · Today 21:03

@ruethewhirl Do you think MoHzilla could catch on too?

As in, tell MoHzilla to shove her thong up her arse...?🤔😁

Or even for Posterior-ority, IYSWIM.

3luckystars · Today 21:05

There is no way I would allow anyone take a photo of me in any swimsuit EVER. If anyone tried to bully me to do so I would flatten
them!!

Northernlights19 · Today 21:06

The only person who sees me in a thong is my partner. Why would anyone want everyone on the internet to be able to access a photo of their bum?!

DevotedSisterBelovedCunt · Today 21:07

Christ, all this stuff is infuriating and getting worse. Matching outfits for hens, brides dictating dress codes for weddings and even banning certain colours, asking people to cut their hair or cover tattoos, choreographed dance routines.
And all in service of social media, which is apparently more important than just having a good time with your friends or making your guests feel comfortable.

What has age got to do with size?

lol because women tend to gain weight much more easily as they age!? Silly/pointed question

Does seem absolutely ridiculous but is it a hill
you're willing to die upon? I’d probably just suck it up and ask that the group photo gets taken first before anything else as you will be changing by x time!

Do you really think that if someone’s uncomfortable at the thought of wearing a thong bikini they should be forced to wear it for a photo? And do you really think they would want a photo taken for everyone to see of them whilst they’re feeling so uncomfortable?

HoppingPavlova · Today 21:08

Hang on, someone is organising thong swimwear, and matching at that, and you ask if YOU are being awkward? Fuck that. I’d cancel the whole thing solely on the basis of bad taste, heaven knows what the rest of the trip will look like, hideous if this is anything to go by!

user293948849167 · Today 21:09

Good lord there’s no way I would be wearing a white bikini , not for anyone!!
Also a thong?!!! 🤢

Did you read my post, or just the title? 🙄

To be fair, you said “I shared why I’m reluctant but she’s having none of it” which implies you tried to say no but she objected to you saying no (and you didn’t then shut it down completely).

Seriously that's your question!
ROFL. You must be very young!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I wish I could be 30 and 9 stone again 😕

Hadalifeonce · Today 21:09

I wouldn't even be photographed in a one piece, so certainly would not even entertain wearing a thong bikini.

WTF absolutely not!

If anyone ever told me what to wear I’d tell them to Fuck off, I don’t care who they are.

Both your sister and her MoH are out of order OP, don’t be bullied!

Areyoumouldy · Today 21:10

Probably already been suggested but would you be comfortable with the top and different bottoms? Or a matching sarong you can tie over?

Or a hazmat suit?
Seriously, if a woman isn't comfortable, it's a no go.

hugasaurus · Today 21:12

God I hate this stupid hen weekend shit. Imagine making people you’re meant to care about wear thong swimwear they feel uncomfortable about. Just absurdly entitled behaviour.
