DD and friend had drinks spiked, now in ITU AIBU?

My Dd had her drink spiked last night.
Im sitting in ITU.
I have sons……. But wtf goes on in men’s heads.
For completeness, her best friend, was also spiked, but is not as poorly.
police are being crap.
Just why????

Your ignorance of any records or news stories about it is not evidence that it isn't happening.

What on earth is the point that you are trying to make here? That the OPs DD and her friend are lying or mistaken and weren't spiked, and furthermore it doesn't happen or if it does it's so rare as to basically not be an issue? Or some other point??

So if you personally haven't seen news about it and don't have up to the minute data, it doesn't / hasn't happened?

DH & I were spiked in the house of a “friend” who it turned out wanted sex with both of us. Thank God it didn’t work, although they tried.

Unless they have any idea who dis it the police can't actually do anything. Are you expecting them to interview everyone who was in the bar? I know its awful but it's the dort of crime thats really hard to investigate. Ask the bar if they will put up warning notices about drinks being spiked.

My mother had her coffee spiked in a little village cafe about 10 years ago.

People can be incredibly quick in doing this.

Needle spiking is a different matter.

Don't drink too much if you can. Most of the drugs the spikers use react badly with alcohol.

So sorry to hear about your poor daughter & her friend. Sadly this has been going on for years & not just girls. My DS went to uni in a large city, never had any problems but he was spiked twice in the small town he grew up in. Thankfully no lasting consequences, apart from being super careful. Hope she makes a good recovery.

I am so sorry OP. Do they know what drug was used? This is a huge problem but is seldom reported. As pp said, it is usually assumed that the victim has just had too much to drink. The police are useless and there is no coherent reporting or information gathering system. In a couple of cases I know about, it was the barman who spiked the drinks. I don't know how anyone can prevent that.

Twenty years ago at university the SU ran a very publicised anti-spiking campaign that was impossible to miss - posters everywhere etc. The bar staff were charged with dropping flags reading 'YOU'VE BEEN SPIKED' in as many drinks as they could, unnoticed. It was shocking how successful they were.

They decided to pop into a bar near the railway station while they waited for their train. They had their drinks on the table in front of them and didn’t leave them unattended at any point. The ambulance crew said that often people ‘accidentally’ bump into tables and drop something in drinks while everyone is a little distracted by that.

I was spiked with ghb a few years ago, I ordered bottled beer (peroni), the only time it was out of view was for seconds when the bartender put a slice in, they had obviously put ghb in at the same time.

At the time it was also common to put ice in a glass first, this hid the small amount of ghb already in the glass as virtually all bars have the ice under the bar so you can’t physically see the ice being put in the glass.

The police weren’t bothered and said it was my fault as I let someone else open the beer bottle. Good quality victim blaming.

She’s now recovering and talking, but will be in ITU for another 24 hrs as they’re monitoring her heart and kidneys
So, what she remembers is that she went to the bar, bought drinks( hers was non alcoholic) had a sip, turned to tap her card on the payment machine!!
Other than that split second the girls never had their drinks out of their sight
Her test results confirmed their was no alcohol in her blood.
Both girls have tested positive for the same drug.
police are saying it’s hard to prove!
I’ve lost faith in humanity…..,
Glad she’s on the mend, but I’m feeling beyond sad……

Op ,tell bar ,police ,and ..email your local MP says she's in hospital and Google the local spiking charities and let them know !

DS had his drink spiked a couple of months ago when he was at uni (in a nightclub). God only knows who would spike a 6ft bloke but it was fairly scary. Fortunately his friends were with him and realised something was very wrong. They had all been together all night and hadn't had much to drink. Spending most of the small hours on speaker phone whilst the paramedics were tending to him was not a fun night. They were excellent and stayed with him until they were sure he was going to be ok.

Spiking became so rife in our town that students protested by not going out, the local bars and clubs suddenly took to Social media talking about safety measures, additional security staff etc
