DD and friend had drinks spiked, now in ITU AIBU?

My Dd had her drink spiked last night.
Im sitting in ITU.
I have sons……. But wtf goes on in men’s heads.
For completeness, her best friend, was also spiked, but is not as poorly.
police are being crap.
Just why????

I'm so sorry to read this - I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

What makes people do this? Because while most people are good people, there are also some real dicks.

I hope the police do start being useful, and find the fuckwit that thought this was a good idea.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this and hope she makes a quick recovery, the police have to step up, do you know where it happened, poor girls. It must be very frightening for you all.

Years ago my friend's drink was spiked with LSD by another woman who was unknown to either of us. We were never sure if it was out of spite (my friend was looking very attractive that evening) or if my friend was a mistaken target, but whatever the vile reason, it was definitely by a woman.

Yes, they were only in one bar. They felt they were being watched, so after a second drink, decided to leave.
My Dd collapsed in the street outside the bar.
Luckily her friend called 999 and insisted they’d been drugged. Which has now been proven
Shes 22, lives alone 3 hrs away from ‘ home’.
I mean anything could have happened

Awful and it seems that there are no consequences. We need to crack down really hard on this sort of thing.

Do tell the bar as soon as you can, especially talk to female staff there. They are more likely to be helpful if police are being wooden.

Hopefully the bar will have cctv and the manager and bar staff are interviewed

The police are useless with this particular crime, preferring to believe that the victims knowingly took drugs rather than being spiked. It’s also very common and has been for decades. A friend and I had our drinks spiked when we were out having one post-work drink in a quiet bar in the 90s, and it’s happened to lots of other women I know. And yet there seems to be no inclination on the part of the police to investigate these crimes. In my case, I strongly suspect that it was a member of the bar staff who spiked our drinks.

My sister had her drink spiked when she was out with friends last year. Similar to your DD, she collapsed just outside the venue and an ambulance had to be called. Sister is in her early fifties and was out with friends around the same age. What the fuck goes through someone’s mind to do shit like this.

It's not just men that spike drinks. And not just women that are spiked.

A woman was spiking them in pubs some years ago round here, and my then boyfriend was badly injured as a result. His poor mum was beside herself.

If you want to put the question what goes on in people's minds, well a lot of people are stupid and evil, and a lot of them tend to have children.

Awful, so sorry OP. This happened to my friend when she was about your DD’s age, about 20 years ago. Fortunately for her, it was on our first or second drink and I was always extremely careful with mine so was able to take care of her and get her to hospital. The police and the bar could not have cared less, just dismissed us completely.

If this helps to reassure you at all, once she came round she really didn’t remember very much at all and was absolutely fine, and the entire experience was overall much worse for me as the sober one having to deal with the situation and her parents getting that awful phone call.

Posts like this scare the shit out of me as a mother of girls one of whom has a serious health condition such that a spiked drink would cause even bigger issues. this has been around for years and years yet nothing is done about it. police are lazy they just say oh you took something its gone bad and you feel guilty. just not acceptable. really hope you child is ok. just horrible.

I was being bothered by a boy and his friends in a club at 18 and I just knew there was something wrong with the drink when the THREE of them presented it to me. My friend who was may more assertive back then snatched it and drank it. Their attention immediately left me and turned to her. I just grabbed her and dragged her to the women’s when they tried to separate us. It took a while to realise what had happened but thankfully she was ok. Looking back on their behaviour it was so obvious.

If the police are being useless, I'd go to the bar myself and make that if there is any CCTV it is preserved. Also ask any staff on duty to write down while it is fresh in their memories, anything they can remember. Then if the police don't get round to investigating for a week, there may still be some evidence or useful statements.

I had my drink spiked aged 43 in a bar and my husband had his drink spiked aged 38 in a gay bar to be specific.

No idea what goes thru mens minds, such an incredibly cruel thing to do.

I don't understand how this could happen.

I don't accept drinks off anyone I don't know.

In a restaurant I watch when the wine is bought to the table and how it is opened.

If I go to a bar, I watch what the bartender/barmaid does before and when they pour my drink.

Unless you leave your drink lying around there is no reason for it to be 'spiked'.

What can the police do, though? I think you can get test strips to detect additives like ketamine and GHB.
