DD and friend had drinks spiked, now in ITU AIBU?

My Dd had her drink spiked last night.
Im sitting in ITU.
I have sons……. But wtf goes on in men’s heads.
For completeness, her best friend, was also spiked, but is not as poorly.
police are being crap.
Just why????

I wouldn't have a big enough drink that took all night to drink for a start. I would keep it held against my chest so I would be aware if anyone tried to get close to it.

Many years ago in clubs I always drank bottled beer 'cos I thought it was safer - could see it opened, and my thumb could be over the top till it was finished. Hated the stuff, but figured it was safer than an open glass.

My friend did the same as me, and yet she still got spiked. And I know she was always careful - but some bastard still got her.

According to one website, the most common drug used in spiking is alcohol. Presumably the bar staff chuck extra shots in a drink.

This may be true, but doesn't mean they shouldn't try.

In an ideal world every crime would be investigated but when resources are limited they are going to deploy them where there is the greatest chance of catching someone.

For a long time it was seen as the victim "asking for it" - by being a bit drunk, or not looking after their drink.

Then it was seen as "too difficult" to solve, so why bother try. And certainly not worth reporting. And if the victim is not tested quickly enough, then the evidence is gone, and there is no crime to report. The fact they went to hospital is irrelevant.

Recently there has been a push to take this crime seriously - I guess not every police force has got the memo.

It crops up in the news fairly regularly. It does get reported but as this thread demonstrates, those that are drugged tend to be written off as having one too many drinks or taken the drugs themselves then cried wolf. Because how dare someone go out for a night of fun.

A lot of the time the drugging does not get reported as the very nature of date rape drugs means often the victim has no memory. Victims of rape have a hard enough time getting justice without adding in having absolutely no memory of the crime.

In many areas lots of procedures have been put in place in bars and clubs to stop the drugs coming in and making it easier for a victim to get help and being believed. A lot of bars hand out drink caps to reduce the risk of spiking.

It's not always in drinks. Needle spiking is very much a thing.

OP I really hope your poor DD recovers quickly. It must be absolutely terrifying to have her in ITU.
My DD was spiked too and was seriously ill. Her friends were luckily amazing and made sure she was never alone and got the help she needed.
I think this was something that did happen when I was young but more with alcohol. Date rape and other drugs are unfortunately very easy to get hold of and the injectables are terrifying.
. This is definitely not a case where blame should be laid on the victim. I think everyone should be able to drink their drink without being poisoned by someone with an ulterior motive!!!
I agree with PP who say that this does happen everywhere unfortunately and I think it is reported. We taught about it in PSHE in schools.
