Going to Tenerife next week… temperatures are showing in the high teens/early 20s…

kids are already moaning it’ll be too cold to use the pool, DH is comparing with the sunshine and home and bemoaning the cost and I’m trying to put a positive spin on it…!

You can't guarantee the weather anywhere. All you can go on is the balance of probability. Yes, Spain is normally hotter than that but absolutely nothing anyone can do.

YABU to refer to Tenerife as Spain when discussing its weather or climate given it is geographically distinctly separate from the mainland.

It looks like it’ll lovely, if a little cooler than usual for this time of year. The sun will still be strong - look at the UV levels.

A pool in Tenerife, in August, is unlikely to be too cold to use.

The weather forecasts for the Canaries are rarely correct IME.

As a PP said you can’t really say “Spain” when talking about the weather of Tenerife. The weather is different on an island far away from mainland Spain.

Are you looking at the overnight temperatures or up in the mountains, which are cold.

BBC says 25 C in the north and close to 30 C in the south. That's hot. The sea is 23 C, which is warm enough.

I'd swap. I'm going to Spain and I'm freaking out its going to be too hot. Canaries always warmer than forecast ime

Where are you getting this info? I just checked AccuWeather and next week it’s forecast between 29 to 32 degrees in Tenerife.

I was in Madrid last week and it was very very hot. Everywhere in the med will be hot. You may get an odd thunderstorm or shower but it will soon be hot again

Don't know where you're looking but Lanzarote on my forecast is showing at late 20s/early 30s and the 'rife is usually a couple of degrees warmer

I’m in Spain and my pool is currently like a lovely vat of soup. And I don’t mean gazpacho. It’s too hot to move.

Canaries are not in the med.

Big difference in temperatures between North and South Tenerife. I'd expect both to be hot/warm but south warmer/hotter.

I don't think they get the mad heat that mainland Spain gets.

I'm in Tenerife now and it has been about 28-31.most days. There's a slight breeze, but it's definitely hot!

Are you sure you're looking at the daytime temperatures? Or not somewhere in the mountains?

Tenerife doesn't usually get the crazy temperatures that mainland Spain get. It's a pretty consistent 20s which is lovely. Sometimes a bit hotter.

take yourself on a lovely break next year. They can stay here and go to the local pool if all they want is a pool ?

What forecast are you looking at? You might get late teens as a low overnight, but you'll be in bed by that time.

What temperature did your DH order?

I’ve been to Gran Canaria, lanzarote and Tenerife in September and October and all times it’s been hot and sunny and certainly not cold enough not to use the pool. So in August it should be fine. I’ve been to Kefalonia early September and yes it was a bit breezy but still fine to go into the sea and pool.

Can't imagine it'd be too cold to use a pool? The outdoor pools in the UK are used at far lower temperatures than that.

Just got back from Italy where it went up to 42 degrees on one of the days…

The low 20s sounds lovely to me right now, but appreciate that you do want it warmer when it’s a beach holiday.

How do people not know where Tenerife is? Bizarre!

The canaries have a completely different climate to the Mediterranean. They are much less sheltered and often windier and the temperature remains more stable year round, avoiding the summer heatwaves that the med has, but staying warm longer into the winter.

Tenerife has a different climate depending on where you are on the island, one part is notorious for being more cloudy/rainy than the other, it’s nothing like mainland Spain like your title suggests.

The canaries are off Africa.
