Going to Tenerife next week… temperatures are showing in the high teens/early 20s…

kids are already moaning it’ll be too cold to use the pool, DH is comparing with the sunshine and home and bemoaning the cost and I’m trying to put a positive spin on it…!

We went to Tenerife (south) a few years ago in August instead of our usual Greece. I was disappointed with the weather. It was cloudy/overcast most mornings until midday, sometimes 1pm,2pm, the pools felt a bit chilly and people were lying out on loungers in hoodies etc.
Then when the sun came out, it was a very searing sort of Sarahan heat. Not for me.
Back to Greece now, a nice 33° all day here.

I quite like the ire it is creating for some posters Hmm

It makes you look clueless.

You mean a first world problem!

To think all those starving people will be worried about the pool temperature in Los Cristianos next week!!

Do you know where you are going on holiday? Tenerife is a Spanish island but its not Spain! The weather in the Canary Islands is pretty similar all year round, we were ther in June and it was late 20s, not as hot as it was here in the middle of the heatwave but a much nicer heat and the pool was very welcome. Id leave your husband and kids at home to enjoy our sweaty sticky heat and you go and enjoy the lovely dry heat in Tenerife with a cocktail by the perfect temperature pool!

It'll be really hot don't worry. I've never been to the canaries in the summer and had it be cold, it's near north africa, i've occasionally had some rain or clouds. They do have a micro climate I think, but it'll definitely be swimming weather I'm sure. Remember they will show night temps (probably the high teens you're seeing) as well as day average temps. The forecast also changes pretty quickly there. Either way, it's booked now and there's plenty to see and do on Tenerife, so if it is cool go out and explore instead but I'm sure it won't be, it's normally high 20s or low 30s and the uv rays there are really strong when I've been in summer hols....

You're already going in August. If you’re looking for hot weather, that’s exactly when most people go. You can’t control an unusually cool week ... so what exactly is your question?

Allseeingallknowing · Yesterday 22:39

Why are 66% saying the OP is being unreasonable to expect Spain to be hot in August?mIt’s the hottest month of the year. Many Spanish move somewhere cooler for that month!

Because the OP is going to Tenerife not mainland Spain.

Bigreddog25 · Yesterday 22:42

Mainland Spain will be very hot in August.
The canaries? Weather forecasts are often unreliable id be suprised if it was at least 2 - 4 degrees hotter than its saying

Definitely agree with this- the sun doesn't seem to come out in the canary island until lunchtime. Bizarre.

In Tenerife right now - can confirm it's, definitely hot enough to be in a pool and is actually refreshing. Feels pretty hot to me!

Chilly80 · Yesterday 23:22

We went to Tenerife in May half term it was definitely hotter than the weather apps said it was

Maisey1991 · Yesterday 23:31

It said 18-20 degrees for us when we went in march. It was 26 and high UV, I burned in three hours 😂 it will be boiling even if it ends up being a overcast on the odd day it’s less windy than the other islands so you’ll be HOT. I’ve family who live there and it’s been baking as always.

Moellen54 · Today 00:09

Good grief! Ive swum in outdoor pools in the canaries in October. August even the sea is great

WanderingStar26 · Today 00:13

I went to Lanzarote in November, and Gran Canaria in October. Weather was shite both times. The all year sunshine thing is a myth.

Yes it is. We've done 2 Christmases and an October and we only had sun for one of the Christmas trips.

Also, OP (and others saying it's nice in Madrid/Mallorca) - Tenerife is as far from Spain as Copenhagen is from Paris.

I was in Madrid last week and it was very very hot. Everywhere in the med will be hot. You may get an odd thunderstorm or shower but it will soon be hot again

Tenerife is in the Atlantic.

Me too, and I am also finding it very hot (although no one seems to believe my posts)!

TwoFastHorses · Today 12:28

I live on the next island to Tenerife. I can assure you it’s hotter than that, even at night! Don’t know what weather app you’re using but it is incorrect. I just checked our thermometer (12:29) and it’s showing just over 28° outside and it never went below 24° overnight. Late afternoon yesterday it was showing 34.5°.

The north of the island is cooler though? You might be in the north idk
