Going to Tenerife next week… temperatures are showing in the high teens/early 20s…

kids are already moaning it’ll be too cold to use the pool, DH is comparing with the sunshine and home and bemoaning the cost and I’m trying to put a positive spin on it…!

I’ve been to Tenerife many times and even though the temperate may state low-mid 20’s for example, it always feels so much hotter. You’ll be fine.

envbeckyc · 21/07/2026 18:48

I usually go on holiday to the Canaries in the summer because it’s a more comfortable temperature than other mainland European and North African countries, the sun is intense and the year round warmth means that pools and the sea are comfortable.

If you want to feel comfortable sightseeing, going on trips, whale and dolphin watching then the Canaries are ideal.

I don’t understand your complaint?

You mean a first world problem.
even so, it is OK for people to be disappointed about things they are looking forward to and have paid for.

But maybe if you'd researched the weather in Tenerife (and not Spain) you wouldn't have been disappointed.

TheHateIsNotGood · 21/07/2026 21:17

HRTT - because it's a non question when Tenerife (Canary Islands) are so geographically far from Spain.

But yes, generally I would expect The Canaries to be quite 'hot' in August and if you're lucky tempered down with an Atlantic breeze.

Haven't been since the 1980s but the Fuertenventuran locals felt more affinity with South America than Spain and the Saharan sandstorms were wild.

Bamboozledbylife · 21/07/2026 22:48

The north is always far cooler than the south. Often very different weather going on to the south

Toseland · 22/07/2026 01:01

I'm currently in Fueturventura - it's been really hot all week 27 to 32 degrees - the sea and pool today were lovely - enjoy OP, don't fret.

noodlebugz · 22/07/2026 06:22

We are currently in Lanzarote similar here - the pool is a bit brisk when you get in but it’s ok once in! The day we went to the waterpark was a bit overcast and slightly too cold but other than that kt’s been lovely - certainly not too cold to enjoy! Not humid either which I’ve been loving.
Have a lovely holiday.

Too much Sangria last night - I’m now awake early! 🤷‍♀️

Bluedenimdoglover · 22/07/2026 06:44

They may moan, but what do they expect you to do about it? They'll probably enjoy it, anyway.

Delatron · 22/07/2026 10:42

It’s going to be high twenties and probably feel about 30 which is absolutely perfect. Do you want the 40 degrees they are having in S.Europe? It’s unbearable and you can’t do anything.

I go to the Canaries quite often to do sport so I’m familiar with the climate. It’s different to Spain. It’s more consistent year round but you don’t tend to get the extreme heat mainland Spain does in the summer. Which currently is a good thing!

After swealtering in Italy I am now back to considering Lanzarote for August next year. It will likely be high twenties, a bit of a breeze and maybe more cloud cover but not every day.
i like to be active on holiday.

You must have been looking at overnight temperatures and also not understanding where Tenerife is… so I’d suggest looking at it all a bit more closely.

Lentilcakes · 22/07/2026 10:48

Just looked at bbc weather and it looks mid/20s in daytime. Great temperature to me!

I went to Lanzarote in November, and Gran Canaria in October. Weather was shite both times. The all year sunshine thing is a myth.

It’s not a myth it’s just not guaranteed. However average temperatures do stay higher in the Canaries than say Greece or Spain in Oct/Nov/Dec.

I’ve been a few times at the end of October. One time it was mid twenties and a bit breezy but fine for what we were doing and plenty of sun. Once we went and it was a bit of a heatwave at it was high twenties at the end of October. That was unusual though.

Overthemoun · 22/07/2026 10:56

The weather forecast in Tenerife was the most inaccurate I’ve ever known. I fretted, packed jumpers and jeans… it was roasting. It does get cloudy but the UV is strong, so many burnt people in the canaries!

go and enjoy.

SusanSharon · 22/07/2026 11:02

We usually go to Lanzarote in May which tends to be in the mid 20’s and, while the pools are chilly, they’re pleasantly refreshing. We usually swim first thing in the morning before it gets really warm too.

ADogRocketShip · 22/07/2026 11:15

As said above, the islands are typically cooler than mainland Spain. I often choose the islands for that reason!

I'm in mainland Spain next week on South coast and lowest temp we'll see is apparently 33 degrees. Max looking like 36-37 degrees. Frankly that'll be too hot for me (thank god we'll have a pool to cool off in!)

LilacReader · 22/07/2026 12:02

I went to North Tenerife a few months ago and it was around that temperature (Puerto de la cruz). The pool was freezing and the weather was ok. South is a lot lot warmer so if you are North, you could always head there for days out (takes a while tho!). Have a great hols x

creativelady22 · 22/07/2026 12:27

I’m here now and it’s absolutely boiling! Don’t worry
