Going to Tenerife next week… temperatures are showing in the high teens/early 20s…

kids are already moaning it’ll be too cold to use the pool, DH is comparing with the sunshine and home and bemoaning the cost and I’m trying to put a positive spin on it…!

We've just returned from (Southern) Spain and it was HOT!!!

I like it hot but 35° between 9am and 8pm was even too hot for me 🥵

See

That sounds perfect. Is the OP just looking at the 20 which is the night time temperature?

The OP isn’t going anywhere near Spain though.

I am currently in the Canaries and it’s seriously hot, definitely hotter than the uk weather we’ve been having

Just to add that we walked out last night, and on our way back, around 10.30pm, the on-street temperature displays were showing 27 degrees.

I know 🤦‍♀️ I realised after posting that this was directed at another poster who said they were going to Spain and hoping for hot weather.

TheBewleySisters · Yesterday 17:48

But Tenerife is off the coast of Africa, it's not in the Med - different climate to mainland Spain and the Costas.

PinkEasterbunny · Yesterday 17:48

OP, you could ask MN to amend the title of your post?

Trumpisacunt · Yesterday 17:51

The temperatures are measured in the shade so will feel a lot warmer in the sun...i got back from tenerife a week ago and the temperatures were showing mid 20's but it was definitely way warmer than that and definitely hot enough for the pool

emmas123 · Yesterday 17:52

No help to the OP here, but laughing at the (justified) Tenerife vs Spain comments.

...I think I'm going to tell people I'm going on a UK break then book a flight to Gibraltar 😆

I just knew when I opened the thread it would be about a Canarian Island.

Fuertventura is showing similar temps (very low 20's) on Accuweather which is concerning me a little.

We chose this island as we can't do "too" hot but 20c would be incredibly disappointing.

Edited

Tbf we were surprised at Tenerife temp and choose elsewhere now. It was the north of the island though.

francy99 · Yesterday 17:54

Remember that’s the temperature in the shade so in the sun it will be much higher. Also as previous posts have said, I know the Tenerife is Spanish but the climate is totally different to mainland Spain

Lunde · Yesterday 17:56

BlackBean2023 · Yesterday 15:52

Sorry, we’re going to the north. Puerto de la cruz

Looks OK to me ATM - 25.30C

.... are you sure DH isn't looking at minimum - ie night temps?

Tenerife is always above 20…it isn’t cold, not even close to cold (been approx 10 times, including a couple of times in August)

There isn’t a cloud in the sky most days (I’ve only seen it drizzle once) and I just got back a couple of weeks ago, having had to sit in the shade and use a fan because of how hot it was while I was there.

Disappointed? So you haven't been bothering to read all the posts in which people are pointing you towards weather sites that make it quite clear that your destination is going to be pleasantly warm at the very least?

Yes, and to be fair I don’t mind he temperature - it’s my family who were disappointed.

However the PP referred to it as a (sic) first world problem implying it’s not OK to be disappointed about things that a luxuries.

You sound passive aggressive.

I quite like the ire it is creating for some posters Hmm

And you and your family sound a bit dim and prone to dramatics

As pointed out, you aren't actually going to mainland Spain. But temperatures are still going to be warm, as posted by numerous helpful posters.

I was in Madrid last week and it was very very hot. Everywhere in the med will be hot. You may get an odd thunderstorm or shower but it will soon be hot again

Tenerife isn't in the Med.

PinkEasterbunny · Yesterday 18:23

I was reading my kindle at around 4pm today, and I got a message to say the device was overheating, and was about to shut down. Lots of people using factor 30 and above.

MyDeftDuck · Yesterday 18:26

RoseField1 · Yesterday 17:22

You mean a first world problem!

Yes, typing too quick, and trying to do other stuff too. Sorry

houseofstark · Yesterday 18:32

We’re going to Tenerife this weekend and are pleased with the weather.

We’ve chosen the Canary Islands the last few years precisely because it doesn’t get as hot as mainland Spain and other countries in southern mainland Europe.

To be fair though, it was hotter a few days last year - but we didn’t like those days!

Happierthaneverwishicouldexplainitbettef · Yesterday 18:36

Op loads of people have pointed it out, but did you not realise when you booked that North Tenerife is not as hot as mainland Spain?

EmmaB1309 · Yesterday 20:16

Tenerife isn’t Spain by the way.

You’re right though, it does look to be predicted late teens/low twenties which seems to be very unusually cool for this time of year. I very much doubt it’s accurate. I’ve only been once and that was in Feb. It was predicted to be high teens, but I’d say it was closer to 23/24 which is plenty warm enough for me!

Others on here also saying forecast seems to underestimate the temperature so let’s hope it’s true. I very much doubt it’s as cool as that in Tenerife in August!

Clearinguptheclutter · Yesterday 20:18

As pp have said, temps in the forecast will be in the shade and the sun will be mighty strong in August in that neck of the woods so expect it to feel several degrees higher than forecast
