To expect Spain to be hot in August!?

Going to Tenerife next week… temperatures are showing in the high teens/early 20s…

kids are already moaning it’ll be too cold to use the pool, DH is comparing with the sunshine and home and bemoaning the cost and I’m trying to put a positive spin on it…!

The north is cloudier and windier than the south, but should still be fine weather wise.

Umm Tenerife isn't in Spain - it Spanish but not in Spain, so it is irrelevant what you expect weather in Spain to be like.

Tenerife as in the Canary Isle? Because that’s 30 degrees at the moment. Did you check late at night or something?

Tenerife is not mainland Spain. The Canaries are far more temperate because they are islands, surrounded by sea.

It will be hotter when you’re there than the forecast is showing. We’ve been several times much earlier in the year when it’s showing high teens/low twenties on the forecast. In reality it’s been high twenties during the day.

Global warming is messing with the seasons so we're getting lower temps in August everywhere. High summer now feels more like late May-mid-July than the traditional July-Aug and Nov-Dec is more wintery than autumnal. Meanwhile spring starts springing in Feb. If it carries on in this vein, England will have to shift the school holidays to follow the Scottish timeline of breaking up in June and returning in August.

Don't be put off by the forecast. It's a real microclimate in Tenerife and the temperatures on forecasts are temps in the shade so when you're in the sun you'll be very hot! Also the pools will not be too cold to swim in. We've been to Tenerife in the north in January and the pool was fabulous and definitely not too cold to swim in! The climate is lovely all year round so pools tend to stay pretty comfortable all year round anyway.

Realistically even reliably in the early 20's would have seemed great to us all previously. But now we have had a long summer of 28+ for what feels like a month, we are all acclimatised to HOT these days!

The area in Tenerife that you are travelling is closer to Mount Teide, so it can be cooler and have more cloud. The South is much hotter, drier and warmer. It depends on what weather forecast you look at! BBC states 25-28c all week but the Weather Chanel says 22-24c all week!

Is that the average temperature over 24 hours, though? If so, it will be hotter than that during the day, because the average temperature figure will also take into account night time temperatures.

Also, bear in mind that Tenerife only belongs to Spain. It's not 'in Spain'. It's a tiny island in the Atlantic Ocean, a fair way off the coast of north-east Africa. It's not actually very near Spain at all. It has its own climate.

I just knew when I opened the thread it would be about a Canarian Island.

Fuertventura is showing similar temps (very low 20's) on Accuweather which is concerning me a little.

We chose this island as we can't do "too" hot but 20c would be incredibly disappointing.

even so, it is OK for people to be disappointed about things they are looking forward to and have paid for.

What app are people using? Both Fuerteventura and Tenerife (including the North) are high 20s, nearly 30 on the met office app.

Weather patterns have changed the last few years so June I found is always the guaranteed hot month followed by July and August is often hit and miss with temp and rain.

Sorry just saw you said accuweather. Maybe not so accurate after all. Fuerte in July/August is sweltering, as is Tenerife.

I'd just be relieved not to be going to mainland Spain next week where CdSol is forecasting 40d +.

Are you looking at the forecast for Tenerife North. Most people go to Tenerife South. There is a big temperature difference.

Disappointed? So you haven't been bothering to read all the posts in which people are pointing you towards weather sites that make it quite clear that your destination is going to be pleasantly warm at the very least?
