The mum filling buckets is being an idiot, ‘hosepipe ban’ is a short way of saying ‘a ban on using water for unnecessary things you can live without’. If she’s going to fill the paddling pool anyway then she may as well just use the hose, it’s using the exact same amount of water in the exact same frivolous manner.
Absolutely no one, regardless of medical condition NEEDS a paddling pool, it may make things more pleasant but it’s not necessary.
Water companies are a bunch of money grabbing, immoral bastards who have prioritises profit over maintaining infrastructure and serving their customers. We all know this and can hate it and moan about it, but the fact is that even if they throw a shit tonne of money at it they won’t be able to make a significant improvement quickly enough to conserve water this year.
if people keep pouring water heedlessly into garden swimming pools, or keeping their grass the right shade of green, or making sure their car is just the right amount of shiny then some areas of the country will end up with water rationing or all out water shortages where you’ll have to go collect your bottle from the lorry at the end of the road once a day.
So yeah, some people are exempt from the hosepipe ban due to legitimate needs, but they should only be using that to meet legitimate needs, not to ensure they can have a splash about in the garden whenever they fancy.
