Hose pipe ban - neighbour doesn't seem impacted...confused?!

I think closing swimming pools and water parks is the first real serious step in a drought, then turning off mains water.

So OP, to alleviate your confusion, have you asked them?

Disabled people who do still need to use the hosepipe aren’t arseholes either 🙄 Children with sensory needs might not be willing to wear a hat or stay in the shade but they will almost always be willing to splash in a paddling pool. People with mobility needs who can’t lift a watering can to water their plants aren’t arseholes. People who are immunocompromised so need to wash their car more regularly to make sure it’s a sanitary environment aren’t arseholes either. It’s great for you that your DH doesn’t need this adaptation but it doesn’t make you better than people who do need it, or make them arseholes for not choosing to go without something that helps them.

They are either ignoring the hosepipe ban or have an exemption.
My neighbours husband and wife with one child with autism (he has a lot of sensory issues in the heat)they have been told her family are exempt from the hosepipe ban and the husband is filling the paddling pool with the hose at the moment and watering the plants with a beer in hand. My other neighbour is a single parent with 3 children and she isn't exempt, she does feel a type of way about it. Her 3 hot and bothered kids are asking why their neighbour can fill the paddling pool with the hose but they cant. The mum is carrying small buckets out to pool .
I can understand the distress people may feel if they think it unfair,but i can understand why it feels unfair that one persons discomfort makes them exempt where another persons doesn't.

there's no shortage of houses though, just people who want to live to the "nicer" places, who are no longer "nicer" because they have houses built on them 😂

Would not bother me one bit, let people get on with their own lifes and you get on with yours.

I think they point is that EVERYBODY has reasons why they need a paddling pool, some children don't need them more than others, they all need them (and you have to be an arsehole for resenting a tiny kiddy pool when adults bath or even showers use a lot more water anyway!)

To be clear, the government has built ZERO houses. Developers do that. The government is trying to make getting planning permission easier for developers, is all.

But then the developers just sit on that land (granted permission) as its value is raised by being able to be built upon. Then they get loans against the value of that land. Tax free.

It’s astonishing how naive every politician is who talks about bloody housing. If the houses were built that have already been approved, we wouldn’t have a housing crisis.

We haven't got a hosepipe ban in this bit of Devon, but a little reservoir up the road has been running water through the hedge since last September, when I reported it. There are SWW water vans up there several times a week but so far no repair.

Doubtless there is some of that. Not all though.

I live in Kent and have had weeks of disruption to my water supply this year. Anyone using a hosepipe round my way would be frowned on, I might even tut at them.

If a watering can is filled from a regular tap then how is that supposed to save water? At the moment I'm still able to dunk a bucket into the water butt and fill the watering can that way but I can't see it going on much longer, either the butt will give up or I will, I'm 78 with knee problems!

They might be exempt or just ignoring it. I'm ignoring it. We have 24 horses to fill buckets for, feeds to soak, mats that need rinsing and they need regular hosing down in the hot weather. Fuck doing that with a bucket and sponge.

Wow I didn't know some people were exempt before the current ban.

My neighbours daughter is autistic. So he's been running a sprinkler which mostly just waters his fence everyday. Is this allowed? I don't really understand the rationale - daughter with autism doesn't benefit from the sprinkler which is keeping his lawn watered?
